VW to launch three hybrids, one electric vehicle by 2010

Now this news may require an agressive savings plan for 2010.

General Motors and Toyota have are already that they are moving forward with their plug-in hybrid plans for 2010, and it looks as though at least one more automaker will be joining the party. Volkswagen has announced that it will be launching three hybrids in 2010 – including one plug-in – alongside an all-electric vehicle.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, VW is planning to have three hybrids to market by 2010. The German automaker is slated to release hybrid version of the Touareg and the Rabbit, while the Jetta will receive the company’s first plug-in hybrid system. In addition to the hybrid drivetrains, the standard Rabbit will also feature fuel-saving stop/start technology.

The news that the Rabbit will get a hybrid variant is a bit surprising as VW announced just a short time ago that it would not put a version of the diesel-powered Golf TDI Hybrid concept into production.

In addition to the three new hybrid models, VW is also planning to launch a very limited run of all-electric cars based on the up! concept in 2010. Details remain scare on the new EV but it is said to be the basis for a new plug-in hybrid micro van that will likely launch in the U.S. sometime next decade.

VW needs to get diesel hybrid into the EOS.Baby Boomer Toy for those that still have a conscience...

Right on man!!!! I'm with you 100%. I'm sick of all this bullshit about gas and all the problems it's causing when we have the technology, the batteries (yes the batteries) and the know-how to make reasonable EV's and not those plastic toy pieces of shit that they had in the beginning. Check out this crossover: 644hp, 155mph top speed, 350mile range on one charge and it charges in 10min. http://www.zapworld.com/zap-x-crossover This website has the tech-specs: http://www.slashgear.com/zap-x-suv-is-644bhp-elec... Almost sounds to good to be true but one can only hope. I only wish there were more models. Maybe a car with less power and speed that could be more affordable. This one comes out to be $60,000. It's supposed to come out in 2010 and if it doesn't i will hunt down the people who advertised it on there web site and kill them (LOL!). Seriously though, I would definitely buy one and so would allot of other people. We're in a new age and it's about time we all recognize and embrace it!!! Here are a few more links for people who are interested in EV's and Hybrids, I've done the research for you guys: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/news/electric-... http://www.gm.com/shop/results.jsp?fuel=HYBRID&am... http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/02/vw-unveiling-a... http://www.autobloggreen.com/2006/12/09/alt-car-e... http://www.teslamotors.com/ http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/08/29/frankfurt... http://youtube.com/watch?v=OmOW0z__AMI http://youtube.com/watch?v=eSgX_2csdKE&featur... http://www.zercustoms.com/news/2008-Subaru-R2-R1.... PS. The list can go on but I don't want to discredit the efforts of Volks Wagon. I think It's a great thing there doing, I'm just saying that there should be more like them, that's all. More power to ya Volks Wagon!!!

it's about time. Good for your VW. It just boggles the mind why not even one automaker with all their billions of dollars in the Research and Development department to not have even one model car/truck or Suv/Crossover that gives me the choice to plug into regular wall outlet electricity at home. Thats just Stupid. And two more years. Why? damn slow pokes. All major automakers we're developing Hybrid and Electric car technologies decades ago. even from the beginnings of the Automobiles industry when all cars were Pure Electric Vehicles. What is this big delay with selling us Pure Electric Vehicles. it's as if the Oil Companies Own the Damn Automotive Industry as well. Just pathetic. Where is the business ethics. Where is the Moral and care for our planet. Every gasoline powered car, even brand new automobiles burn over 19 Pounds of Unbreathable and poisonous to human health CO2, for every gallon of gasoline burned. And what's with Automakers bragging in their television commercials that 35 miles per gallon is Fuel Efficient. Reality check Auto Industry, 35 Miles per gallon is NOT fuel efficient! Fuel efficient is more like a "ACTUAL" MINIMUM of 100 Miles Per Gallon. But you missed the boat. We The People Don't even want to use gasoline anymore. It's too bloody. It's to harmful to our environment. Our air. The cost is too high, and I'm not talking about the price at the gas station. We the people NEED Pure Electric Vehicles and Plug in Hybrids that give us choices as to what fuel we need and wish to put in our car/trucks/Suv's and crossovers. Period. End of discussion. So Shut the F*ck up and sell us automobiles that do not use dirty gasoline. That give us the CHOICE of plugging in to electricity at home(to a regular 110Volt outlet, not that funky huge plug that the EV-1 had. Damn GM trying to own even the plug itself). Bottom Line. Cut the crap. Sell us those EV's Today. Now. Pronto!!!
