
The summer festival season is about to begin. Together with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Pringles is launching a big summer campaign throughout Europe. The Volkswagen Bulli plays a very special role as it is the central icon of the campaign. Four Bullis will be taking part in 13 festivals in Western Europe and 20 city events in Germany. The Pringles Bulli will be at the centre of stalls and a stage where various contests will be held. Fans using mobile networks can, via free WiFi hotspots on the metre high multimedia tins, post photos and videos they have taken themselves to their Facebook profile. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are presenting five world innovations at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Fair, among them a new variant of the Volkswagen Amarok, which has successfully secured its place on the market. The markets are on a course set for growth, with worldwide deliveries to customers rising by the end of August 2010 by 18.1 percent, to 269,800 light commercial vehicles. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles produced the one millionth vehicle of the T5 series today at the Hanover plant. The vehicle is a Transporter Van 1.9 l TDI 62 kW in tornado red.
‘The T5 is and remains the number one in its segment for new registrations in Europe and Germany’, emphasised Stephan Schaller, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles during the celebrations at the Hanover plant. ‘One million T5s – that means one million customers towards whom we have a particular responsibility. This number is, furthermore, the product of all employees at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: in Production, but also in Development and Procurement, in Quality Assurance, in Sales and everywhere in the brand and in our dealerships’, said Schaller.

The new Volkswagen pickup is called Amarok. In Autumn 2009, the first pickup by a European volume manufacturer in South America is to be unveiled. The South American launch is set for Spring 2010, with the Amarok coming to Europe in the summer. With the Amarok, Volkswagen is seeking to enter global pickup markets dominated for the most part by Japanese manufacturers. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles already presented an impressive concept truck at last year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles, providing a taste of the brand’s new fourth model. The Amarok will be produced in Argentina at Volkswagen’s ‘Pacheco’ plant near Buenos Aires.

Global growth strategy extended to ASEAN region
Volkswagen AG is expanding its commitment in Southeast Asia as part of its 2018 growth strategy. In cooperation with the Indonesian partner company ‘Indomobil’, local vehicle assembly operations are to be set up as a first step towards the long-term development of ASEAN markets. An agreement on assembling Volkswagen models in the capital city of Jakarta has already been signed.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is launching its first broadcast sponsorship of a new Channel 4 ‘Adventure on 4’ programming strand, starting on 9th April 2009 with ‘Around the World in 80 Trades’.
The 12 month sponsorship package with Channel 4 represents a significant media value and includes sponsorship bumpers with the tag line ‘Adventure on 4 in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ (www.vwcv.co.uk). Despite the difficult background conditions in the second half of 2008 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sold more vehicles than ever before, and also achieved new record values in turnover and operative profit. ‘All in all, 2008 was a very good year for our brand’, emphasized Stephan Schaller, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles , on Wednesday at the annual press conference in Hanover. However, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles could not escape the effects of the dramatic worldwide drop in demand for commercial vehicles. ‘We are in a strong enough position to master the crisis, and to sell more automobiles than before once the difficult market situation has been resolved’, said Schaller.
