Now this is awesome! Need for Speed, has set itself apart by delivering an extension of its racing gaming series into the toy world. Mega Bloks actually announced this Electronic Arts partnership back in February.

Featuring authentic cars from the game, there are three Porsche 911′s featured and a Porsche 911 Turbo Wheel Launcher. But wait, that’s not all… there are 2 Audi R8′s and a Custom Garage which includes parts to to make the R8 into the Audi R8 LMS car. On another note, our good friend Andy Blackmore’s Ford Mustang RTR-X is also in the mix so be sure and grab that one!

This is a limited edition of only 300 models. Our 2011 Bid for Rolex 24 was a mixture of euphoria and disappointment. Joerg Bergmeister set a new DP record of 1:40.099 at the Daytona International Speedway, putting the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche-Powered DP on the overall pole for race. The No. 45 Daytona Prototype was powered by a Porsche Motorsport-prepared, 911-based flat-6 engine.

After an incident put the car off track in hour four, the team fought to regain positions. Unfortunately, the car retired due to a small engine fire in hour 23 with 90 minutes left in the race. The No. 45 was eleventh (overall and in class) at the time of retirement.

The livery design was beautiful and so well received, that despite the unfortunate end, we had to release a replica. This model is manufactured by Spark/Minimax and is exclusive to Flying Lizard. The model is crafted in the same manner that has made Spark the premiere model maker, second to none. The packaging includes Spark’s standard acrylic case and the custom Flying Lizard-branded outer slip cover.

The model is attached to a black MDF base (5.5 inches by 2.875 inches), that is printed with “J. Bergmeister – P. Long – S. Neiman and J. van Overbeek” along one edge with accompanying printed driver signatures. “Flying Lizard No. 45 – Porsche-powered Riley DP, 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona – Overall Pole Winner and Fastest Race Lap” is printed along the opposite edge. This car is approximately 4 inches x 2 inches and 1.25 inches tall.

On Thursday March 10, Hot Wheels™ lit up Circular Quay, showcasing groundbreaking 3D projection technology at Customs House in Sydney, Australia. In a spine tingling show, the notorious Hot Wheels™ Skull Racers shattered the facade of Customs House as they competed in the ultimate speed racing battle.

Brought to life by international digital advertising agency Muse Amsterdam, in collaboration with PostPanic and BeamSystems, the projection featured footage of the world’s fastest vehicles in a stunt ridden challenge, traveling through the Customs House facade and into a fantasy world. Hot Wheels fans, young and old, were kept on the edge of their seats as the racers smashed their way through one of Sydney’s most historic buildings.

AUDI AG will be showing a selection of its products again at the 62nd International Toy Fair in Nuremberg. Last year Audi became the first car manufacturer ever to present a selection of model cars and new products from the Audi children’s world to visitors on its own stand in Nuremberg. The highlight in 2011 will be the “Auto Union Type C e-tron study” with electric drive. The International Toy Fair will take place from February 3 to 8.

Audi will be continuing the subject of electric mobility in a fun way at the Nuremberg fair: The brand with the four rings is presenting a unique specimen, which is as innovative as it is exclusive, on its 75 square meter (807.29 square feet) stand – the Auto Union Type C e-tron study. This is based on the limited-edition pedal car model which is sold through quattro GmbH, a subsidiary of AUDI AG. The body of the hand-finished unique specimen is made of aluminum and carbon-look material and is suitable for children and adults of up to 1.80 meters (5’11”) in height. The 1:2 scale study is 2.32 meters (7.61 feet) long and 97 centimeters (38.19 inches) wide.

The electric motor drives the rear wheels, is charged by a lithium-ion battery and, with an output of 1.5 hp, reaches a torque of 40 Nm (29.50 lb-ft) – and briefly as much as 60 Nm (44.25 lb-ft). This enables the car to reach a top speed of 30 km/h (18.64 mph). The study is also equipped with a reverse gear.

Depending on how it is driven, the little Audi e-tron has a range of around 25 kilometers (15.53 miles). It can then be charged at a standard 230 volt household socket. Depending on the battery charge status, this takes about two hours.

The exclusive soccer table from Audi design will also be making an appearance in Nuremberg. Alongside its emotive styling, this toy is also noted for its Vorsprung durch Technik. Its materials, finish and technical workmanship satisfy the highest standards. Aluminum and high-strength plastic are added to the wooden core by hand. The table, incidentally, is absolutely suitable for professional tournament use. Its combination of functionality and design is unique in table soccer. Only 20 tables will be built initially, with each small-series soccer table costing €12,900.

quattro GmbH is showing prototypes of a rather different kind in the area of baby and children’s products: The racing bodysuit, the power/brake socks, the pit stop baby bottle and the mini sound absorber kit (pacifier) were all inspired by the world of motorsport. Audi is also showing a study of the successor model to the current “Audi Junior quattro” ride-on toy car in Nuremberg.

Audi will of course also be presenting its high-quality range of classic car-related toys: remote-controlled models, plush cars and the Audi motorsport bear. The Wörthersee models of the Audi A1 to a scale of 1:87, among others, will be displayed in the model car paternoster.

Industry professionals, journalists, commercial resellers and large-volume buyers can view the world of toys offered by Audi by visiting the exhibit stand. Through its presence at the fair in Nuremberg, Audi is looking to draw attention to the wide range of toys offered in its portfolio. The International Toy Fair in Nuremberg is one of the world’s leading professional exhibitions for toys and leisure products. About 2,600 exhibitors will display their wares from February 3 to 8.

AUDI AG will be the first carmaker ever to present a selection of its products at the 61st International Toy Fair in Nuremberg. The exhibit booth for the car brand with the four rings will present visitors with a selected range of toy models and new products from the Audi children’s world. The 61st International Toy Fair takes place from February 4-9 in Nuremberg.

During its debut at the toy fair, AUDI AG subsidiary quattro GmbH will be exhibiting exclusive model cars and car-related toys, including remote-controlled cars, stuffed cars and an Audi motorsports teddy bear. Industry professionals, journalists, commercial resellers and large-volume buyers can view the world of toys offered by Audi by visiting the exhibit booth.

A special highlight for the toy fair is the Auto Union Silver Arrow Type C in a 1:2-scale version with chain drive. The stuffed TT and motorsports bear, the Audi kids’ car and the Audi junior quattro will also be exhibited.

By being the first carmaker to exhibit at the Nuremberg fair, Audi is seeking to raise awareness of the diverse range of toys the company offers. ‘It’s an exciting project,’ said Caroline Gerberding, who is responsible for exhibitions and events at quattro GmbH. ‘For the first time, the main focus of an exhibit is not to present our cars, but instead is aimed at showing off our ‘little’ Audi world.

The International Toy Fair in Nuremberg is one of the world’s leading professional exhibitions for toys and leisure products. About 2,700 exhibitors will display their wares from February 4-9.

Our friend Eric, who owns a ’67 Beetle we’ve featured before, sent us a link to this unbelievable die-cast from Sun Star.

This 1:12 scale ’49 split-window features over 400 parts, opening windows via crank, removing wheels via lugs and a ton more. The detail on this Beetle is impeccable. One of our all time favorite features on Beetles, were the semaphore’s. These work as well.

Whether you’re a diehard air-cooled enthusiast or just a collector, the Sun Star 1949 Volkswagen Beetle Standard Saloon die-cast isn’t cheap at $136.95 but it’s an outstanding addition. (Buy it here*)

In 1945, the factory which was now located in the British occupation zone, was placed under the control of a British Army officer, Major Ivan Hirst. There was no longer a need for military vehicles, so Hirst resuscitated the Volkswagen project and started production following an order from the British Army for 20,000 cars. The factory was then offered to the major US car manufacturers but when no interest was shown, Heinrich Nordhoff, a former senior manager with Opel, was recruited in 1948 and he finally took over from Major Hirst the following year.

This was the beginning of one of the most important German companies, which was based on a car which would sell over 20 million units over the following 40 years or so.

Over the next few years, Sun Star will trace the history of this world-wide icon, starting with the 1949 saloon with its split rear-window (Bretzel).
