A successful debut year: The first season of the Scirocco Cup in China ended with a thrilling season finale at Guangdong (CN). The newly created one-make cup which is taking the successful concept with centrally fielded vehicles, maximum equality of opportunity and low costs to Asia, has immediately set new standards in the emerging Chinese motorsport thanks to exciting racing events. After the eighth and last race of the season – Man Hong Lo from Hong Kong has made history as the first title winner – Volkswagen announced the extended programme for the coming season: In 2010 the Scirocco Cup calendar in China will feature seven weekends with a total of 14 races including one event at Sepang, Malaysia. The Volkswagen Scirocco Cup China successfully started its debut season this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit. Twenty-one drivers from Asia, Europe and Canada provided more than 10,000 spectators with thrilling motorsport. The winners of the first two races in 2009 are Kevin Tse and Patrick Boulard.

The Dakar Rally gave the starting signal for a wide-ranging Volkswagen motorsport programme this year.
In 2009 the brand will extend its activities in Formula 3 and start competing in Great Britain as well. In addition, a Scirocco Cup will be launched in China. Two weeks after its unveiling in China the new competition vehicle – alongside the Race Touareg 2 for the ‘Dakar’, the Scirocco GT24 that was victorious in the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring and the Formula 3 racing car ‘powered by Volkswagen’ – will be showcased on the Volkswagen stand at the traditional Essen Motor Show (29 November to 07 December).

The ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup in particular has become an export hit, as clearly demonstrated in 2008 in the form of the new Jetta TDI Cup, the first diesel race series in the USA.
In 2009 the successful concept “made in Germany” will continue its journey with the new Scirocco Cup in China. Volkswagen has once again assisted many young talented drivers around the world with their first steps in motorsport with the “Touring Car School” concept.
