Two new Audi models making their U.S. auto show debuts in Los Angeles this week show how the German brand intends to raise its profile in the top reaches of the U.S. luxury car market over the coming year.
The main attraction at the L.A. Auto Show is the all-new Audi A7, which will establish a new class of progressive luxury that combines prestige, functionality, elegant design and leading-edge executive technologies. Audi of America today announced that it will exhibit — for the first time ever — at the SEMA Show, the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world, Nov. 2-5, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the SEMA experience, and look forward to turning heads with our vehicles, demonstrations, and a sophisticated lineup of After Sales and electronics products that enhance connectivity and entertainment,” said David Tait, Audi’s lead After Sales executive and spokesman on the SEMA project. Audi is saddened by the helicopter incident that took place this morning near the summit of Pikes Peak. Today’s film crew was shooting a test run of the “Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak,” a joint program involving Audi, the Electronic Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, California, and Stanford University. The goal of the project involves ascending Pikes Peak autonomously without a driver behind the wheel to demonstrate the capabilities of advanced driver assistance systems and GPS. What once seemed to be the stuff of science fiction a car that can safely operate without direct input from a driver is rapidly moving from the realm of science fiction toward reality. The autonomous Audi TTS project is studying how driver assistance, communications, and other automotive technologies can help drivers react to traffic and safety challenges. This research could help dramatically reduce the number of auto fatalities worldwide.

The design of the lightweight bodies made primarily of aluminum and the interior have been revised with great attention to detail, while new technologies lower the fuel consumption of the compact sports car. New to the lineup is a powerful and highly efficient four cylinder: The 2.0 TFSI develops 155 kW (211 hp), but is content with an average fuel consumption of just 6.6 liters per 100 kilometers (35.64 US mpg).
