The SKODA Motorsport team will continue the Fabia Super 2000 project also in the upcoming year 2012. This year the project has led to the greatest achievements in the brand’s long history of motorsport efforts. Published August 30, 2011 in Skoda. SKODA wants to reduce the CO2 emissions from the thermal power plant SkoEnergo by one quarter until the year 2015. The reduction is to be achieved primarily through the utilization of biomass. In 2015, about one third of the total power generated shall come from renewable energies. The power plant of the SKODA subsidiary SkoEnergo was put into operation in 2000. It produces power for the vehicle production at the headquarters of the manufacturer and serves as the thermal power plant for the city of Mlada Boleslav. Published August 10, 2011 in Skoda. In the first seven months of the year, the SKODA brand has delivered 523,200 vehicles worldwide (January – July 2010: 437,300 vehicles). Thus, the Czech automobile manufacturer was able to increase its sales 19.7 percent in comparison to the previous year and for the first time ever delivered more than 500,000 vehicles by July. At the same time, SKODA achieved a new record for the month of July with 68,500 sold units (last year: 58,500). SKODA’s sponsorship of this year’s Tour de France has been a success. For the eighth consecutive year, the Czech-based carmaker was one of the main sponsors of the world’s toughest cycling race that ended today on the Champs Elysees in Paris. With a fleet of 300 vehicles and many events relating to the race, the brand’s involvement was more extensive than ever before. Furthermore, SKODA was a partner of nine professional teams plus the technical assistance team (Mavic). The climax of SKODA’s presence in the event was today’s handing of the TdF trophy to Tour winner Cadel Evans by SKODA Auto BOD Member for Sales and Marketing Jurgen Stackmann.

Intended for use by the race management, VIP guests and media from all over the world, 300 vehicles across SKODA’s model portfolio have been provided to the Tour de France organizers, from the Fabia to the Suberb. Furthermore, SKODA was part of the “advertising caravan” and was also heavily involved in the final ceremony on the Champs Elysees: the trophy that was handed to this year’s Tour winner by Jürgen Stackmann had been designed by SKODA’s Chief Designer Jozef Kaban and his team and manually produced by Czech glassmakers.
Together with ice-hockey, cycling is one of the main pillars of SKODA’s sponsorship strategy. Besides the Tour, the brand is also involved in e.g. the Giro d’ Italia and acts as a partner of road cycling world championships. With the objective of popularizing cycling with cycling enthusiasts, SKODA supports various cycling events designed for the general public, such as the Bike for Life in the Czech Republic and the Berlin Velothon in Germany.

Freddy Loix claimed victory on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier in Ypres for a seventh time in his factory Skoda Fabia Super 2000. It would have been indeed difficult to find a better place for the first victory in SWRC. The Red Bull SKODA team won the legendary Acropolis Rally, one of the most difficult events in the rallying calendar. The season’s fourth event saw Juho Hanninen win after putting in a brilliant performance – a combination of speed, patience and cool-headedness. The third event of the IRC championship offered a thrilling spectacle from the first kilometer to the last. For the first time in history, the series moved to Corsica to take the drivers to 321 kilometers of a narrow track and a mix of bends and difficult uphill and downhill stretches. Jan Kopecky & Petr Stary of Skoda Motorsport (factory team) had an impressive finish but, despite two fastest times on the final day, came second, 16 seconds behind Thierry Neuville in a Peugeot. It was exactly 85 years ago, that a vehicle with the SKODA logo of the winged arrow rolled off the assembly line for the first time. The luxury sedan SKODA Hispano Suiza was the first car with the distinctive trademark of the Czech manufacturer. On May 10th, 1926, the very first vehicle was delivered to the president of Czechoslovakia, TomaS Garrigue Masaryk. Until 1929, only a total of 100 units of the luxury sedan were built.
