SEAT has been actively collaborating with the organization for the last 18 years since the rally became a competition on the WRC schedule. This year, SEAT is providing race organizer RACC with 86 cars to assist with the coordination of the race.

Spectators at each of the eighteen stages that make up the three legs can admire SEAT’s three newest launches as they drive by. These take to the track as the ’zero’ cars making the round of the stages prior to the race competitors in order to verify the safety measures of the road and that the spectators are in a safe viewing position.

Once the course is closed to traffic, the first car making its appearance will be a 200 hp SEAT Exeo TSI as the 000 (triple zero) car. Next up is the new 240 hp León CUPRA as the 00 (double zero) car, and finally the 0 car immediately preceding the competitors will be the new 180 hp Ibiza CUPRA Bocanegra, equipped with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and piloted by Joan Vinyes, the Andorran driver who won the first edition of the SEAT León Supercopa in 2002.

The Rally Catalunya is scheduled to begin at eight in the morning on Friday and finish at three in the afternoon on Sunday. The course is made up of nine stages that will each be raced twice.

- SEAT

Related posts:

JE Design to premiere Seat Exeo ST and Leon FR / Cupra at Seat Event

You're reading SEAT’s latest launches take the lead at the Rally Catalunya originally posted on oneighturbo.com. The standard version of the car is scheduled to hit the markets mid-2010. “The Ibiza is already SEAT’s most successful car, and the IBZ will be the perfect addition to the Ibiza family, enabling us to harness better our potential in the growing A0 segment.” stated SEAT’s Chairman. The brand is targeting active and sporty customers as well as young families. James Muir added “The new Ibiza brings together all the advantages of a roomy station wagon with characteristic design and an elegant interior”.

Likewise, SEAT’s Chairman unveiled the new Altea Ecomotive, the most eco-friendly car in its segment, producing just 119 gm/km of CO2. Other eco-friendly front-runners in their respective classes are the Altea XL Ecomotive (119 gr/km) and the new León Ecomotive (99 gr/km).

The three vehicles are equipped with the most modern common rail diesel engines. Additionally, for the first time ever SEAT is using the Start-Stop system and energy-recovery technology. This can be seen particularly in the new León Ecomotive, which has brought down its CO2 emissions by 20 gr/km compared to the previous version.

With these three new Ecomotive versions, SEAT now offers 27 different model versions whose CO2 emissions are below the 140 gr/km mark. “Innovative and eco-friendly technologies make up an important part of our brand strategy. A passion for driving and respect for the environment go hand in hand. We shall continue to add to the Ecomotive range” highlighted James Muir.

- SEAT

Related posts:

SEAT to show off its new ECOMOTIVE range at the Frankfurt Motor Show

You're reading SEAT adds to Ibiza and Ecomotive range originally posted on oneighturbo.com. The new Exeo ST was the brilliant winner in its category, while the judges considered it third in the general classification. In addition, the Altea XL took second place among the compact vans, the Ibiza came in second in the small imported car category, and the León was third in the compact car division.

This is the first prize given to the Exeo ST since its recent market launch. SEAT’s new model came out ahead of its rivals based on its excellent performance and moderate fuel consumption figures, as well as its hallmark refinement and subtle sportiness. It is truly an option to keep in mind for customers hailing from the highly competitive fleet market.

The Altea XL clearly impressed the judges with its innovative design, roomy passenger compartment and generous equipment line-up. Its second place win in the Compact/Mini Van category complements the first place win by the SEAT Altea in the DEKRA 2009 report, which analyses vehicle defects in several mileage ranges, in the Van category with between 50,000 and 100,000 kilometres.

Equipped with an engine range famous for its reduced fuel consumption figures and emissions levels, and an extensive standard equipment list that includes ABS, ESP and TCS + EBA, driver and passenger airbags, head-thorax airbags and hill hold control, the SEAT Ibiza came in second in its category. This outstanding result clearly strengthens the Spanish model’s leadership in its segment.

Finally, the new styling found on the León 2009, its updated engine line-up, signature sportiness and functional 5-door body choice were decisive reasons for granting it a third place win among the compact cars, and a fantastic result for SEAT at Germany’s Company Car 2009 awards ceremony.

- SEAT

Related posts:

SEAT is presenting the new 2009 Leon and Altea models

You're reading The new Exeo ST is the “Company Car 2009” in Germany originally posted on oneighturbo.com. This time, the popular Spanish model has been singled out as the most secure in the ‘City Car/Supermini’ category with the prestigious British Insurance Vehicle Security (BIVS) Award, presented by Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre located in the county of Berkshire, England.

This is the first time a SEAT vehicle has been chosen for this significant award. It places the Ibiza in an enviable position compared to its rivals in terms of security.

The BIVS Awards were established in 2004 to recognise those manufacturers who have produced the most secure cars, and to make consumers aware that the selected models offer the highest levels of security.

The SEAT Ibiza ranked an impressive 5 stars (out of a possible 5) in Thatcham’s New Vehicle Security Register (NVSR) ‘theft of’ category and 4 stars (out of 5) for ‘theft from’, taking into account several aspects such as an electronic security system, the car’s interior and exterior security features, peripheral locks and mechanisms, vehicle code information and glazing, among others.

The Ibiza range is currently expanding. The new Ibiza FR and CUPRA, and the new 90 hp 1.6 TDI CR engine will be in the official SEAT dealerships this month, while the concept-car inspired Bocanegra version is going on sale in September. This attractive line-up will be joined next year by the launch of the Ibiza ST.

- SEAT

Related posts:

Volkswagen Phaeton ranked most secure luxury car

You're reading The SEAT Ibiza is the most secure vehicle in its segment in Great Britain originally posted on oneighturbo.com. Their relevance to the Spanish brand stems from their exterior and interior styling, powerful engine line-up and equipment level, which also puts them in an enviable position in their segment.

Without a doubt, these are three vehicles that have been created to thrill and satisfy, to provide the sportiest driving experience with a unique style and personality – an accurate reflection of the brand values that underline the innovative design, sporty nature and liveliness found on all of its models.

Another novelty found on the Ibiza range is the 90 hp 1.6 TDI CR engine with common rail technology, which is replacing the 90 hp 1.9 TDI unit. This signals the gradual start of including the common rail system to the Ibiza range, which gives the engine better performance and significantly reduces all levels of noise, consumption and emissions.

Both the FR and CUPRA versions and the new 90 hp 1.6 TDI CR are already available across the dealership network, whereas the Bocanegra will be going on sale in September.

Common elements found on all three sporty versions

The three sporty models in the SEAT Ibiza range share several common elements. They are all equipped with the twin-charged 1.4 TSI engine, which delivers 150 and 180 hp outputs, the 7-speed sequential DSG gearbox with steering wheel shift paddles and the electronic XDS system, which works as a self-blocking differential without the need for any additional mechanical element.

This makes the Ibiza the first model in the VW Group to feature the 1.4 TSI engine mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox in its segment and with this platform. The addition of the XDS system turns both the FR and the CUPRA into true technological jewels.

The third version of the SEAT Ibiza FR delivers the same 150 hp through the modern, twin-charged 1.4 TSI engine compared to the same output with the 1.8 20VT of the previous version. It is available with SC and 5-door bodies with a long list of standard equipment.

The fifth version of the SEAT Ibiza CUPRA will once again satisfy thrill-seeking drivers. On this model, the 1.4 TSI engine delivers 180 hp, the first time a VW Group engine features this output. It is only available in the SC styling, and one of the brand’s engineers’ objectives was to give it a sportier, more effective ride.

The exclusive Bocanegra

The Bocanegra is the third addition to the SEAT Ibiza range and does not go unnoticed. The name of this special version may not sound familiar to many of its buyers, but it is a milestone in the history of the brand’s sporty models. The SEAT 1200 SPORT Bocanegra that appeared on the market already 34 years ago was as much the object of desire in its time as the new Ibiza with the same name will be today.

In fact, the styling of the current SEAT Ibiza generation was defined at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show on the SportCoupé ‘Bocanegra’ prototype, which is now a dream coming true. Its front end epitomises its spectacular exterior design, but it also features countless design and equipment detailing that make it a collector’s edition vehicle, and it will be available with the FR and CUPRA engine choices.

90 hp 1.6 TDI CR engine – dynamic and efficient

The arrival of common rail technology to the Ibiza range is a step up in terms of the car’s already magnificent performance figures, and combines with increasingly low emissions and consumption levels that make the Ibiza one of the most ecological models of its segment.

Another aspect where the Ibiza has improved considerably is in the noise level inside the passenger compartment, since the common rail system lowers the decibels between 5 and 8% in intermediate rev ranges and between 8 and 10% at the highest rev ranges.

The shift to the common rail system will no doubt afford the Ibiza driver a quieter, more comfortable driving experience.

Ibiza FR and CUPRA equipped to the maximum

The new SEAT Ibiza FR and CUPRA both feature an outstanding equipment line-up. Standard equipment includes countless active and passive safety devices, comfort elements and others that contribute to enhancing the models’ sportiness.

Both models, and by extension the Bocanegra, all share the following standard equipment line-up – ESP, TCS + EBA, XDS, ABS, low tyre pressure warning, driver + passenger airbag, head-chest airbag, fasten seatbelts warning, rear window seat Isofix anchoring points + Top Tether preparation, cruise control, specific suspension, body colour door handles, double headlights, cornering foglights, dark rear side glass and rear window, anti-theft radio aerial, spare wheel, climate control, height and reach adjustable steering column, specific leather steering wheel and gearknob, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, passenger seat with ‘Easy entry’ system (SC version), split folding rear seat, central console with 2+1 cupholders and power socket, 3

height adjustable rear headrests, boot light, anti-roll slope start assistant, audio equipment with MP3 + Aux-in + 6 speakers, radio and telephone controls on steering column, trip computer, front power one-touch anti-trap windows, rear power windows (5-door FR version) and remote controlled central locking.

The main stylistic differences between both versions can be found on the door mirrors (in silver on the FR and black on the CUPRA), the specific sport seats for each model, several interior appointments that feature the car’s logo, and the rims, which are 17 inch alloy ‘Aera’ in Cosmos Silver on the FR and in Titanio on the CUPRA. The CUPRA version is further available with optional 17 inch alloy ‘Sira’ rims, which allow for the SEAT racing brake system to be installed. These rims come in either Titanio or Cosmos Silver. The Bocanegra comes equipped with silver colour 17 inch ‘Sira’ rims, with the same possibility of including the SEAT racing brake arrangement as on the CUPRA.

As on the rest of the Ibiza range, the new FR and CUPRA versions feature an attractive list of optional elements that completes the list of standard equipment.

They can come equipped with the Carbon package, which enhances the exclusiveness of the interior with an instrument panel binnacle hood, steering wheel spokes, radio casing and DSG gear guide with a carbon fibre finish. This package is provided as standard on the Bocanegra.

An interesting optional comfort element on the Ibiza FR and CUPRA is the storage package, which provides drawers beneath the front seats, a cargo net and side nets in the boot. There is also a technical package, which includes parking sensor, rain sensing wipers, Coming Home and anti-dazzle rear-view mirror, and the Winter package, with heated wiper nozzles and headlight wipers.

Another novelty introduced on the Ibiza range with the arrival of the FR and CUPRA versions is the possibility of adding leather upholstery to the sporty seats, an optional element that is not only available on the Spanish brand’s two sportiest models, but on the Style and Sport trims as well.

Furthermore, both the Ibiza FR and the CUPRA are available with the new adaptor for the new generation of portable Tom Tom navigators, which joins the current adaptor to plug in the Tom Tom One V4 navigator.

The following elements round off the list of optional equipment - passenger airbag disconnection, front and rear head airbags + side airbags, volumetric alarm, electric heated park position door mirrors, panoramic electric sunroof, front armrest, heated front seats, dual xenon headlights + AFS + headlight washers, iPod? compatible USB port, Bluetooth connection, USB port+ Bluetooth connection, metallic paint, Emoción Red paint and Custom colour paint (not available on the Bocanegra, since it only features Dakota Red and Candy White).

90 hp Ibiza 1.6 TDI CR, available in all three trim levels

The 90 hp SEAT Ibiza 1.6 TDI CR, as well as the model equipped with the rest of the available engine choices, features a complete standard equipment list in combination with the Reference, Style and Sport trim levels.

Entry-level Reference equipment includes ABS, ESP and TCS + EBA, driver and passenger airbag, head-chest airbag, Hill Hold Assist, low tyre pressure warning, audio equipment with MP3 + Aux-in + 6 speakers, 185/60 tyres on 15 inch steel rims, front seatbelt warning, rear seat Isofix anchoring points + Top Tether and passenger seat with Easy Entry (SC version), among others.

The Ibiza range also has the possibility of installing optional leather upholstered sport seats on the Style and Sport versions, as well as the new adaptor for the new generation of Tom Tom navigators.

Furthermore, the Colour Edition versions have recently been added to the Ibiza SC, a new personalisation programme that enhances the model’s interior and exterior exclusivity and sportiness with the Lumina Orange and Galia Blue custom colours, which is also available on the 105 hp 1.9 TDI and the 85 hp 1.4 and 105 hp 1.6 petrol engine versions.

Related posts:

The Ibiza FR and the León CUPRA boost the sporty range

You're reading The Ibiza range grows with the new FR, CUPRA and Bocanegra models and the 1.6 TDI CR engine originally posted on oneighturbo.com. It was a memorable occasion, and signalled the beginning of a success story that has reached the present time with the recent launch of the fourth generation of the Spanish company’s most emblematic model. The Ibiza naturally became a landmark in the history of SEAT since it was the first product wholly developed as an independent company.

Throughout its history, the SEAT Ibiza has always displayed its sporty, youthful, spirit and has stood out for its brilliant performance and for being extremely cost-effective. The first generation presented in 1984 signalled a great novelty, combining the spaciousness and interior comfort of higher segment models in a more compact body (3.6 metres long). On that project, SEAT collaborated with famous firms such as Italian designer Giorgio Giugiaro’s company Italdesign, as well as Karmann for industrialisation and Porsche for the technology applied to the engines (called ‘System Porsche’ that the Ibiza displayed on the engine).

The arrival of the Ibiza revitalised the company’s production line, boosting output to 1,281,388 units. With a choice of engines ranging from 44 hp to 100 hp on the petrol version, and the efficient 55 hp Diesel, the Ibiza became a powerful magnet for both domestic and foreign buyers. The number of exports was outstanding, and even exceeded 119,000 units in 1990.

After seven years on the market, in 1991 the model underwent a complete transformation called New Style, which mainly affected the design of the front end and the interior trim appointments. A further development was the Sport Line version, equipped with the latest System Porsche engine evolution — 1.700 cm3 and 110 hp output. The following year, the SEAT Ibiza became the official car of the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games.

From its launch in 1984 until 1993, sales of the first generation Ibiza totalled 1,342,001 units.

Second generation – the first model manufactured at the Martorell factory

In 1993, the Spanish brand announced the second generation of the Ibiza, a car that would follow in the successful tyre tracks of the previous model.

SEAT’s extensive history contains a chapter wholly dedicated to this model, which became the first vehicle manufactured in the new Martorell factory. This landmark filled the company’s executives with optimism and heralded a fantastic start for the model, which was unveiled at the 1993 Barcelona Motor Show.

The second generation Ibiza was developed then within the Volkswagen Group, and featured a total of six engine choices (petrol, diesel and turbo-diesel) with 3- and 5-door body styling. At that time, the Ibiza took a giant leap in terms of manufacturing quality, and became the first model in its segment equipped with a 90 hp TDI engine. Three years later, in 1996, it repeated this feat with the 110 hp TDI engine, which became the most powerful Diesel engine in its segment.

Also in 1996, SEAT presented the spectacular CUPRA version equipped with the 150 hp 2.0 engine, which delivered exceptional performance figures and featured tremendously sporty looks. This much-anticipated launch was used by SEAT to celebrate its brilliant victory at the FIA World 2.0 litre engine Rally Championship with the SEAT Ibiza Kit Car, a title it would go on to win again in 1997 and 1998.

At the 1999 Barcelona Motor Show, the Ibiza featured revamped styling. Its completely new looks could be found on the inside as well as the exterior, which featured larger light units and a grille to match the brand’s new image. The interior featured a prominent new multi-function screen that displayed information relating to the trip computer, climate control and radio.

A year later, in May 2000, and coinciding with SEAT’s 50th anniversary, the company presented the new SEAT Ibiza CUPRA equipped with the 156 hp 1.8 turbo engine, which was the first vehicle of its segment to feature ESP electronic stability.

The experience gained by SEAT Sport after competing for six years at world rally events benefited the brand’s customers later with the launch of the SEAT Ibiza CUPRA R, the first mass-produced model developed by the company’s sports division. This exclusive car was equipped with no less with the 180 hp 1.8 20V turbo engine.

Sales exceeded those of the previous generation, with a total of 1,522,607 units sold between 1993 and 2002.

Third generation – the introduction of the Agile Chassis concept

The third generation of the Ibiza saw the light in 2001 and signalled a leap in terms of manufacturing quality, engine range and dynamic performance. Walter de Silva was responsible for its design, and he introduced a more attractive silhouette that underlined its increased agility.

In fact, the 2001 Ibiza was the brand’s first model to introduce the Agile Chassis concept in its entire range. Developed by the Martorell Design Centre, it also raised the power bar with Diesel engines of up to 130 hp.

In 2004, the Ibiza celebrated its 20th anniversary in a big way, with more than 3.3 million units manufactured and with the introduction of the two new sporty versions that would later become the Spanish brand’s watchwords – FR, with the 130 hp 1.9 TDI and the 150 hp 1.8 turbo engines, and CUPRA, whose 160 hp 1.9 TDI was the most powerful Diesel engine in its segment, and the 180 hp 1.8 20V petrol engine delivered brilliant performance levels.

In February 2006, the SEAT Ibiza debuted a new, more modern, yet more sporty image. The main improvements included new interior trim and new bumpers on a range of 18 versions combining five trim levels with 11 engine choices.

Sales of the third generation Ibiza reached a total of 1,084,989 units between 2002 and 2007, making it the best-selling model in the segment since its launch. This model is currently still in the SEAT sales network, equipped with the 85 hp 1.4 and 70 and 80 hp 1.4 TDI engines, the latter also with DPF particulate filter in its ECOMOTIVE version, presented at the end of 2007 to become the greenest car in its segment with emissions of only 99 g/km of CO2.

Since its creation in 1984, the Ibiza has been an icon for SEAT and the company’s most well-known model around the world. For this reason, the arrival of a new generation in 2008 was proof that the Ibiza causes enthusiasm and admiration wherever it goes. With uncommon sportiness, innovative design and great quality, the new SEAT Ibiza immediately became a benchmark within its segment.

Fourth generation – the perfect combination of beauty and technology

A year ago, SEAT began the promotional campaign of the fourth generation Ibiza with two key words that perfectly summed up the qualities of the company’s new car – beauty and technology, to which a third character trait should be added – quality.

This quality goes hand in hand with its exterior and interior style, since the Arrow Design concept at the front lends the new Ibiza a sportier, more distinctive look than on previous versions thanks to the use of sharp geometric lines, as well as the evolution of the brand’s classic Dynamic Line sweeping across the sides.

Furthermore, the standard equipment line-up features elements such as head-chest airbags, ESP electronic stability, Hill Hold Assist and low tyre pressure warning, which all contribute towards increased driving comfort and safety.

Crash tests organised by Euro NCAP validated the excellent work carried out by the Martorell Technical Centre, resulting in 5 stars for passenger protection, 4 stars for child safety and 3 stars for pedestrian protection.

The new Ibiza also features excellent dynamic qualities thanks to the use of the new Volkswagen Group platform developed for this segment, which is enhanced by the seven-speed DSG gearbox mated to the 105 hp 1.6 litre petrol engine for the first time in its segment, providing it with greater driving comfort without affecting the traditional sporty nature of all SEAT models, and putting the brand’s new vehicle in a privileged position compared to its rivals.

In total, the fourth generation of the Ibiza is available with six engine choices, three petrol (70 hp 1.2; 85 hp 1.4; and 105 hp 1.6) and three Diesel (80 hp 1.4 TDI; 90 and 105 hp 1.9 TDI) with DPF particulate filter. They all feature exceptionally low CO2 emissions, with special emphasis placed on the new ECOMOTIVE version which has become the most ecological model in its segment thanks to its emissions level of 98 g/km, further underlined by its low combined fuel consumption figure of only 3.7 l/km.

The new Ibiza range is currently expanding and new versions such as the spectacular CUPRA and FR will soon make their way onto the market, the latter making its debut at the Barcelona Motor Show. These new cars are sure to fulfil the expectations of even the most demanding customers with their powerful, efficient engines, excellent performance output, complete equipment line-up including elements such as XDS or bi-xenon headlights with AFS technology, and their attractive exterior design. These aspects have characterised the Ibiza over the last 25 years and have made this model a true icon for Spanish youth, as well as motoring in Spain.

Related posts:

The SEAT Ibiza design is given the prestigious “Red Dot Award”

You're reading SEAT Ibiza: A success story spanning 25 years originally posted on oneighturbo.com. More than 30 years later, the Spanish brand has reverted to the same exclusive nomenclature to create the new SEAT Ibiza Bocanegra, a vehicle whose innovative design language, especially centred around its characteristic front end, oozes character and sportiness. It instantly becomes, without a doubt, a true collector’s edition.

But its exclusive exterior design is not its only strength – the interior has also been modified compared to the rest of the models in the range to create an even more sporty passenger compartment filled with distinctive detailing. The new SEAT Ibiza Bocanegra will be equipped with either the 150 or 180 hp twin charged 1.4 TSI engine found on the FR and the CUPRA versions.

Unique, exclusive silhouette

The new Ibiza Bocanegra has very clearly been created to provide a thrilling driving experience. Its new exterior design, whose masterful lines appeared on the SportCoupé ‘Bocanegra’ prototype presented at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, puts SEAT’s new vehicle firmly in the spotlight. This is indeed a unique version aimed at customers who want an exclusive Ibiza.

The main characteristic of the new Ibiza Bocanegra is found on the front of the car. As its name suggests, the black volume at the front is reminiscent of a mask, which strengthens the stylishness of SEAT’s new model.

The top half of the front on the Ibiza Bocanegra is emphasised by completely black double headlights and the central grille with its honeycomb mesh and black surround, including innovative air vents at the base. The bumper combines black with the body colour, while a broad grille beneath that takes care of cooling the engine. The fog lights are built into the bumper, which is bigger at the bottom and over the wheel arches, and its muscular volume contributes toward the car’s unmistakably sporty appearance.

Other elements that combine perfectly to further add to the Ibiza Bocanegra’s image are the door mirrors with their black housing, the sunroof and the attractive 17 inch ‘Sira’ rims which, on the CUPRA version, feature a brake assembly with AP-Racing callipers, and low profile 215/40 R17 tyres.

The rear of the vehicle also features honeycomb mesh on the side grids, an impressive spoiler, chunky wheel arches and a tinted window. But what really identifies the personality of the car is the ‘Bocanegra’ badge centred on the hatch door, a characteristic trait of SEAT’s most exclusive versions.

The sporty body colours available on the new Ibiza Bocanegra are Dakota Red and Candy White, and both clearly highlight all the stunning design differences found on the model.

Highly personalised, ergonomic passenger compartment

Building on the sporty interior of the FR and CUPRA versions, several significant modifications have been made to the passenger compartment of the SEAT Ibiza Bocanegra, much to the delight of discerning customers.

As is usual on SEAT’s sportiest models, the first things that get your attention on the Ibiza Bocanegra are the seats, which are upholstered with specific fabric made up of rhomboids stitched together in red to generate a definitively sporty look.

The upper part of the seats sport the logo that identifies this version – a capital ‘B’ stitched in red – and the sporty Ibiza range models feature comfortable, ergonomic seats that provide the driver with the highest level of safety.

Another eye-catching element in the interior is the three-spoke steering wheel, which is flattened at the base, sports a capital ‘B’ for Bocanegra in aluminium in the middle of the vertical spoke and the seven-speed DSG shift paddles at the ends of the horizontal spokes for easier gear changes without releasing the steering wheel; whereas the DSG gear gaiter has red stitching to match the seats.

Different shades of black prevail in the interior, especially Brillante Black on areas of the dashboard soft-pad, the door panels and the central tunnel; or Carbono Black on the steps, the lower A pillars, the wheel arches and the specific floor mats, which also have red borders.

The Bocanegra logo on the instrument panel distinguishes it from the FR and CUPRA versions. Furthermore, the binnacle hood and radio casing feature Carbono Black, and the brake and accelerator pedals boast aluminium trim.

1.4 TSI engine and XDS system

The new Ibiza Bocanegra is equipped with the twin charged 1.4 TSI engine, either in its 150 or 180 hp version. This new generation engine is powerful and reliable, and guarantees brilliant performance levels and reduced consumption figures.

Other standard equipment on the Ibiza Bocanegra is the XDS system, which combines with ESP and TCS and functions as a self-blocking differential without the need for any additional mechanical elements. The system anticipates traction loss to the wheels and limits tractive force to the wheel expected to lose grip, preventing the inside wheel from skidding, especially around curves, and the car from understeering.

Both the Ibiza FR Bocanegra and Ibiza CUPRA Bocanegra include equipment that is identical to the standard versions: ESP, TCS + EBA, ABS, Hill Hold Assist, low tyre pressure warning, driver and passenger airbag, head-chest airbag, trip computer, cruise control, climate control, CD radio with MP3 + 6 speakers + Aux-in connection, sports suspension and cornering foglights are just some of the features.

The new SEAT Ibiza Bocanegra features unique styling and personality, combining a distinctively innovative design with large doses of exhilarating vitality, values that SEAT applies to all its models, but with even more new meaning on the Ibiza Bocanegra.

A look at the past

The design of the new Ibiza Bocanegra that SEAT is presenting at the Barcelona Motor Show is reminiscent of the first SEAT SportCoupé launched, the 1200 SPORT/SPORT 1430 ‘Bocanegra’. Even though more than 30 years separate the launch of the two models, both feature innovative styling and magnificent performance figures, and both ooze character and sportiness. The following are the main characteristics of the first ‘Bocanegra’.

The launch of the SEAT 1200 SPORT in 1975 was a milestone in the Spanish brand’s history since it was the first model to be wholly-developed at the SEAT Technical Centre in Martorell.

The model was called ‘Bocanegra’ for its characteristic front end with integrated plastic bumpers. It featured a two-door body, four-speed gearbox and 67 hp 1.2 engine that gave the 1200 SPORT ‘Bocanegra’ a top speed of 157 km/h.

The design language of the SEAT 1200 SPORT was groundbreaking from any angle, characterised by sharp straight lines at a time when rounded contours were fashionable. Its interior design was also ahead of its time, and included a control panel made from a single piece.

The main qualities of the SEAT 1200 SPORT ‘Bocanegra’ were its innovative design, excellent performance and recognised stability.

The range was later extended with the addition of the SEAT SPORT 1430, whose 77 hp delivered a top speed of 164 km/h. Equipped with the engine found on the SEAT 1430, this model was barely different on the outside or the inside compared to the 1200 SPORT version.

Production of the SEAT 1200 SPORT began in 1976 and stopped in 1979 (with a total of 11,619 units sold), while the SEAT SPORT 1430 went on the market a year later in 1977 (7,713 units sold). In total, sales of both models reached 19,332 units, which were made exclusively in the Spanish market.

Related posts:

SEAT celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Ibiza with a special version

You're reading SEAT introduces the new SEAT Ibiza Bocanera originally posted on oneighturbo.com. The Spanish brand will be highlighting a special version that pays tribute to the first car developed by SEAT as an independent company – an absolute best-seller since its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in 1984.

Well-deserved tribute to one of the brand’s most emblematic models

The new version features an attractive equipment package on the Sport trim

Available in both body styles and with the 85 hp 1.4 and 105 hp 1.9 TDI engines

The Ibiza is now into its fourth generation, and each one can be characterised by its youthful sporty spirit, excellent cost-effectiveness and brilliant performance, making this model a powerful icon for generations of Spanish youth and Spanish motoring alike.

The new version of the Ibiza, called ‘25th anniversary’, will be available in the SC and 5-door body styles equipped with the 85 hp 1.4 and 105 hp 1.9 TDI engines and Sport trim. Equipment includes climate control, dark glass, 17 inch alloy rims, parking position door mirrors, passenger airbag disconnection and USB port + Bluetooth, all for the additional price of 384.27 € on the Diesel engine version and 400 € with the petrol engine (in Spain). On the exterior, the new Ibiza ‘25th anniversary’ differs from the rest of the Ibiza range models with an exclusive logo designed for the occasion.

At the same time, SEAT has prepared an exhibit of the four generations for the Barcelona show, where visitors can take a look at the evolution of the Ibiza since its launch.

Without a doubt, this is a fitting tribute to a car that has a dedicated chapter in the Spanish brand’s history book. Its aim is to continue being a benchmark in its segment in terms of quality, design and technology, not only in the present but also in the future.

SEAT Ibiza CO2
