The game, which can be found at uefa.com, is quite simple: competitors choose 15 players from across the UEFA Europa League using a fixed budget.  Points are then awarded following each player’s performance in the actual league matches (full details at http://en.uelfantasy.uefa.com). 

SEAT is awarding the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE to the player with the highest scoring team between the first leg ties of the Round of 32 in February and the final on 12 May 2010.

A second player, who successfully steers a team through the group phase and to the top of the table after the semi-finals, will win two tickets and hospitality, as well as travel and accommodation, to the final of the UEFA Europa League in Hamburg – courtesy of SEAT.

There are also 15 matchday prizes up for grabs this season. An official UEFA Europa League match ball will go to the highest scoring player each matchday. This high quality football was developed especially for the new competition.

These prizes will only be attributed to participants with legal residence/domicile in a country whose national football association is a member of UEFA.

Once again, the SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE has proven its ecological merits and driving efficiency by covering no less than a distance of 1,910 km on a single tank of fuel, resulting in an average consumption figure of 2.34 l/100 km. This incredible repeat performance was carried out magnificently by Austrian Gerhard Plattner, a well-known champion of fuel-saving tests, who got the most out of the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE’s qualities.

The first time Plattner teamed up with the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE was in late April, when the dynamic duo drove from SEAT factory installations in Martorell to Göttingen, Germany, with an average fuel consumption of 2.9 litres for every 100 km.

For the current record, Plattner set out from Cieszyn, Poland, on 23 September, immediately after the IPMC (International Police Motor Corporation) sealed the car’s bonnet and fuel tank filling mouth.

The route included a total of 12 European states, and Plattner drove through the cities of Mosty (Czech Republic), Bratislava (Slovaquia), Hegyeshalom (Hungary), Graz (Austria), Varazdin (Croatia), Maribor (Slovenia), Toblach (Italy), Innsbruck (Austria), Schaan (Principality of Liechtenstein), Zurich (Switzerland) and Saint-Louis (France) to finish off in Frankfurt (Germany).

When he switched off the engine for the last time, the seal on the fuel tank was still intact and the new fuel-saving record of SEAT’s Ibiza ECOMOTIVE was certified for its segment. The excellent final figure result corroborates the reduced consumption and emissions levels characteristic of the ECOMOTIVE range, whose new Altea and Altea XL ECOMOTIVE additions were exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor show.

The Spanish car manufacturer SEAT is to broaden the scope of both its highly successful Ibiza family and the Ecomotive range.

At the Frankfurt International Motor Show SEAT’s Chairman James Muir presented the IBZ concept, a term the Spanish brand uses to describe the new family-version Ibiza. The standard version of the car is scheduled to hit the markets mid-2010. “The Ibiza is already SEAT’s most successful car, and the IBZ will be the perfect addition to the Ibiza family, enabling us to harness better our potential in the growing A0 segment.” stated SEAT’s Chairman. The brand is targeting active and sporty customers as well as young families. James Muir added “The new Ibiza brings together all the advantages of a roomy station wagon with characteristic design and an elegant interior”.

Likewise, SEAT’s Chairman unveiled the new Altea Ecomotive, the most eco-friendly car in its segment, producing just 119 gm/km of CO2. Other eco-friendly front-runners in their respective classes are the Altea XL Ecomotive (119 gr/km) and the new León Ecomotive (99 gr/km).

The three vehicles are equipped with the most modern common rail diesel engines. Additionally, for the first time ever SEAT is using the Start-Stop system and energy-recovery technology. This can be seen particularly in the new León Ecomotive, which has brought down its CO2 emissions by 20 gr/km compared to the previous version.

With these three new Ecomotive versions, SEAT now offers 27 different model versions whose CO2 emissions are below the 140 gr/km mark. “Innovative and eco-friendly technologies make up an important part of our brand strategy. A passion for driving and respect for the environment go hand in hand. We shall continue to add to the Ecomotive range” highlighted James Muir.

The SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is undisputedly the most ecological vehicle in its segment after proving its driving efficiency by covering no less than a distance of 1,562 km on a single tank of fuel, resulting in an average consumption figure of 2.9 l/100 km. Gerhard Plattner drove out of the Martorell facilities near Barcelona on board of the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE last Monday 27 April, after both the bonnet and the fuel tank filling mouth had been sealed. The trip began under supervision by the IPMC (International Police Motor Corporation), which was initially planned along a 1,345 km route from south to north on public motorways at a suitable pace.

Plattner drove the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE through Perpignan, Avignon, Lyon, Mulhouse, Freiburg, Frankfurt and finally Göttingen on his way to setting the record. At some points along the way on motorways in Spain and France, Plattner brought the Ibiza up to cruising speeds of 110 km/h.

When they made their triumphant entry in Frankfurt, the SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE had already set the world fuel-saving record for a car in its category, but there was still some fuel left in the tank, so Plattner decided to continue driving until he reached Göttingen, where the chairman of the IPMC removed the seal from the filling mouth and they refuelled the car with the exact same quantity as when the car had left Martorell: 45.53 litres.

A smiling Plattner declared that ‘setting this record has been incredible. Without a doubt, it has been the most spectacular fuel-saving challenge this year. The pouring rain practically all through the night made driving difficult, but the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE performed to perfection.’

The SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is the leading car in its segment in terms of sustainability and the Spanish brand’s most ecological car, thanks to its low fuel consumption figure of only 3.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions level of 98 g/km.

Optimised streamlining, weight reduction and modifications to the 80 hp 1.4 TDI engine’s management have given rise to one of the cleanest cars on the market today. Besides, it is the only model equipped with air-conditioning, a five-door body style and such a low emissions level.

This year the Geneva Motor Show is one of the most significant stages for SEAT since the Spanish brand is showcasing several novelties in its range of vehicles as part of the company’s product expansion strategy, which includes the arrival of up to ten new models in the next six months.


 
SEAT will be presenting the newest, most modern and up to date range on the market, featuring the Exeo station wagon, called Exeo ST, the new SEAT León and Altea 2009 models, with a completely revamped look and the addition of common rail Diesel engines, and the León ECOMOTIVE Concept prototype, with its record-setting emissions levels of only 99 g/km of CO2.
 
This morning, SEAT president Erich Schmitt stressed the importance the arrival of new models has for the brand, stating ‘we have completely renewed our product line-up and have invested in new vehicles and technology. The result is on display today, with no less than seven vehicles showcased, including one prototype.’
 
The family size version of the Exeo arrives
 
Coinciding with the commercial launch of the sedan, SEAT is presenting the Exeo ST in Geneva, the family size version of the new model that will make its way onto the market in July, whose engine range and equipment list will be identical to those of the four-door version.
 
The new Exeo ST features outstanding practicality and functionality. Its family styling and new rear hatch increase load capabilities and comfort, with broader access and a flat cargo area. The new model features greater storage volume compared to the sedan by allowing objects to be loaded up to the ceiling. Furthermore, the Exeo ST is also equipped with an upper cargo net that increases safety by preventing objects from falling into the passenger compartment.
 
The only differences compared to the sedan lay in the length of the body, which is 4.666 metres long, and the boot volume, of 442 litres. This model will be wholly manufactured at the Martorell factory near Barcelona.
 
The mid range evolves
 
Another novelty presented by SEAT at the Geneva Motor Show is the new exterior and interior looks of the León model and the Altea range.
 
With this unmistakeable evolution, the Spanish brand’s mid-range undergoes a considerable exterior design transformation, mainly affecting the front end, with a new bumper, a newly designed grille with a smaller SEAT brand logo and a more stylish chrome surround, larger headlights and newly designed door mirrors; and a broader rear window for better visibility, a new hatch and new light clusters, among others, at the rear end.
 
On the inside, the instrument panel, central console and door panels have undergone considerable modifications, resulting in an ergonomically modern passenger compartment.
 
Customers can choose from five petrol and four Diesel engine variations, featuring common rail technology on the 170 hp 2.0 TDI unit. There are two new petrol engines to choose from – the 160 hp 1.8 TSI, now available with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, and the 211 hp 2.0 TSI, which is exclusive to the León FR and the Altea freetrack. All the models equipped with an automatic sequential DSG gearbox include steering wheel shift paddles, except the 105 hp 1.9 TDI unit.
 
The company’s new vehicles will feature an extensive equipment list in combination with the Reference, Style and Sport trim levels. The XDS system will be included for the first time, exclusive to the new León 2009, which functions as a self-blocking mechanism but achieved through an electronic device. Further elements will include hill hold control, double xenon AFS headlights with daytime driving lights, a new climate control and new audio equipment, cornering foglights, front and rear parking sensors and an optical parking system visible on the new navigation system’s display panel.
 
León ECOMOTIVE Concept: a record setter in its segment
 
SEAT is taking confident strides in its efforts to reduce its cars’ emissions levels and fuel consumption figures. At the beginning of January the company published news of its León Twin Drive Ecomotive electric car project slated for 2014, and at the Geneva Motor Show the Spanish brand is unveiling the new SEAT León Ecomotive Concept.
 
The company’s prototype features the new 105 hp 1.6 TDI engine equipped with the DPF particulate filter and common rail technology, which greatly contribute to lowering average combined fuel consumption figures and emissions levels compared to the basic version it derives from, delivering a spectacular consumption of 3.8 litres for every 100 kilometres and 99 g/km of CO2 emissions, making the León ECOMOTIVE Concept the most ecological compact car in its segment together with the VW Golf Bluemotion.
 
A total of 20 g/km has been knocked off thanks to the addition of the new Auto Start/Stop system and the energy recuperation function, two completely new functions in the SEAT range. The new ecological León will shortly join the brand’s ECOMOTIVE range, where the 98 g/km Ibiza and the 159 g/km Alhambra are the most ecological models in their respective ranges, besides the León ECOMOTIVE 2009, with emissions levels of 119 g/km.

As it is about to go on sale in the Spanish market, the new SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE received the ‘ECOBEST 2008’ award in the historic city of Istanbul from the Autobest organisation, which distinguishes it as the most ecological car of the year by countries with emerging markets.

The VIII edition of the Autobest Awards was attended by over 150 people, including journalists from 15 countries that make up the Autobest jury, several international motor racing celebrities, managers in the local automotive sector and members of the specialised press.

Fernando Salvador, SEAT’s Product Communication Manager, received the ECOBEST award, which has been included for the first time in the annual Autobest prizes. He said ‘this is an especially important prize for SEAT. The Ibiza is the most relevant model in our range and the new ECOMOTIVE version accurately expresses our strategy of manufacturing vehicles that are increasingly environmentally friendly. We are very proud of this award and would like to thank Autobest for recognising SEAT’s contribution to introducing ecological models in the market.’

The new SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE was chosen ahead of rivals such as the Ford Fiesta Econetic or the Toyota iQ, receiving a positive score in almost all the criteria in the selection process including factors such as vehicle price, service network, spare parts distribution, versatility, design and technology, among others.

With CO2 emissions of only 98 g/km and a fuel consumption figure of 3.7 l/100 km, the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is the leading vehicle in its segment in terms of environmental sustainability as well as the Spanish brand’s most ecological car.

ECOMOTIVE range, firmly committed to environmental sustainability

The Spanish brand is heavily focussed on environmental sustainability with its range of ecological ECOMOTIVE cars. SEAT’s current models carrying the ECOMOTIVE badge are the new Ibiza, whose CO2 emissions are 98 g/km, the León, with only 119 g/km, and the Alhambra, which at 159 g/km is the least contaminating vehicle in its segment.

The best example is without a doubt the new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE. Equipped with the efficient 80 hp 1.4 TDI engine and DPF particulate filter, it is the most ecological car in its segment. Improvements made to the car’s streamlining with a newly designed closed front grille and new rear spoiler, new software for the engine’s electronic management, and weight reduction are a few of the measures taken to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions compared to the former model.

The latest addition to SEAT’s ECOMOTIVE range is the Alhambra. Its ecological version is equipped with the 140 hp 2.0 TDI engine, and it produces 159 g/km of CO2 emissions, making it the first model in its segment to break the 160 g/km barrier. Thanks to these figures, the Alhambra ECOMOTIVE is in the 4.75% registration tax bracket, making it an extremely attractive purchase option. Furthermore, the average combined fuel consumption figure of the Alhambra ECOMOTIVE is only 6 litres for every 100 km.

A good indication of the sporty character that the brand always wants its models to feature is the addition of sports suspension to the Alhambra ECOMOTIVE equipment list, making the Spanish brand’s monospace car stand out for its low emissions and fuel consumption, as well as for its sporty, efficient character.

SEAT’s range of ecological cars keeps growing.The original Ibiza ECOMOTIVE spearheaded a new line that was soon followed by the León and Alhambra models. After the recent launch of the fourth generation Ibiza, the new ECOMOTIVE version is available. Now even more conservation-oriented, the new car achieves a best-in-class emissions figure of only 98 g/km of CO2 and lowers fuel consumption to 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

These figures are unrivalled in its segment, and are possible thanks to the painstaking work carried out on the new 80 hp SEAT Ibiza 1.4 TDI equipped with the DPF particulate filter which, in its own right, already features excellent emission figures. Optimised aerodynamics, weight reduction and changes to the engine management have given rise to one of the cleanest cars on the market. The new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is the only 80 hp model to feature air conditioning, a five-door body and emissions figure of only 98 g/km of CO2.

Available in both five-door and SC versions, this car is an excellent purchase. Customers not only save on registration tax in Spain and enjoy tax benefits in other countries, but by opting for this SEAT they will be driving an even more fuel efficient car that contributes more towards environmental conservation.

Optimised aerodynamics

Improvements to the car’s streamlining have been essential in order to achieve emission reduction goals, with special emphasis on the front end, plus the addition of a spoiler on the rear hatch and rear wheel deflectors.

The radiator grille has been modified and is now completely closed. The lower grille design redirects some air flow away from the engine for enhanced aerodynamics. Another important element is the 40 mm front spoiler, which has never before been used on a SEAT model.

The addition of a new rear spoiler on the hatch of the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is another important element. It usually suggests speed and sporty looks, but this feature contributes towards streamlining and performance, and therefore reduces fuel consumption and lowers emissions.

Last but not least, the rear wheels have been equipped with deflectors that further redirect airflow and improve the car’s aerodynamics.

All of these changes on the new SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE have lowered the car’s Cx drag coefficient from 0.33 to a very slippery 0.30.

An extremely efficient engine

The main work carried out on the engine has been to improve the software of its electronic management. The already excellent values of the 80 hp 1.4 TDI engine have been optimised, a three cylinder unit with an engine torque of 195 Nm delivered between 1,800 and 2,200 rpm. It includes an EGR exhaust gas recirculation valve and a DPF at the initial exhaust stage, which serves the dual purpose of catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter.

This system filters the soot particles typical of all diesel engines, but the ECOMOTIVE’s engine control unit is responsible for continuously checking the state of the filter, and activates regeneration to burn up the accumulated soot particles. Thanks to this system, the particulate filter is completely maintenance-free.

New software has been designed for the engine’s electronic management control that improves fuel consumption figures and CO2 emission levels. Optimised fuel injection and channelled air intervals through the turbo have led to a record 3.7 litre combined average fuel consumption for every 100 km. Consumption on the extra-urban cycle is only 3 litres, while at 4.9 litres, city driving also requires less than 5 litres per 100 km.

Weight reduction

Further emission reductions have been achieved by reducing the car’s weight.

It was no easy task to lower the already competitive weight of the new SEAT Ibiza, but ten kilos have been shaved off that also contribute toward lowering the emission figures to 98 g/km from 114 g/km. The maximum kerb weight has been limited to 1,144 kg (70 kg less than the basic version), which means customers cannot include certain equipment combinations that exceed this figure.

Going back to aerodynamics, closed hubcaps on the 14 inch rims that create less air resistance, and the increased tyre pressure to 2.9 bars on the front and 2.7 bars on the rear tyres also help achieve the ECOMOTIVE’s outstanding sustainability figures.

Fewer emissions, enhanced performance

Strange as it may seem, the new ECOMOTIVE provides better performance than a standard Ibiza. The modifications added to reduce fuel consumption and emission levels have provided an additional benefit – better streamlining and less weight have led to enhanced top speed, acceleration and in-gear acceleration figures.

The new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE reaches a top speed of 177 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds, covers a standing kilometre in 34.7 seconds and accelerates from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear in 13.3 seconds. Figures for the basic version are 169 km/h, 13.1 seconds, 35 seconds and 13.9 seconds, respectively.

Generous equipment

The new SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is available in the 5-door and SC body styles and the wide range of colours found on the new Ibiza. Besides the addition of the new rear spoiler, which makes it look different to the Reference version it stems from, it also includes body colour door mirrors and handles, double headlights and specific upholstery.

The new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE features an extensive line-up of equipment, similar to what is found on the Reference trim level, including ABS, ESP, TCS + EBA, Hill Hold Control, low tyre pressure warning, driver and passenger airbag, head airbag, MP3 audio equipment + aux-in + six speakers, electro-hydraulic power steering, 14 inch steel rims with 175/70 tyres and hubcaps, anti-theft aerial, steering column controls, air recirculation + pollen filter, remote controlled central locking, fasten front seatbelt reminder, rear seat Isofix anchoring points + Top Tether preparation, height adjustable driver and passenger seats and three height adjustable rear headrests, among others.

Any customer wishing to extend this long list can optionally include the rear parking sensor, cruise control, air conditioning and cornering foglamps.

The new SEAT Ibiza ECOMOTIVE has been awarded the ‘ECOBEST 2008’ distinction for the best ecological car of the year. This prize is given every year by the AUTOBEST organisation, and is great news for SEAT in its commitment to preserving the environment by manufacturing vehicles with reduced CO2 emissions.

The Ibiza ECOMOTIVE is the first homologated vehicle to register an emissions figure of only 98 g/km, featuring a five-door body and air-conditioning, two aspects that placed the new SEAT model in front of rivals such as the Ford Fiesta Econetic or the Toyota iQ.

AUTOBEST is the only independent panel centred on markets belonging to emerging nations, of which 15 are member states this year. The most important criteria in the selection process include factors such as vehicle price, service network, spare parts distribution, versatility, design and technology, among others.

Overall winner with average fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100km

The Seat Ibiza ECOMOTIVE achieved a major triumph in the 10th Eco Tour, a tough, fuel-efficient challenge driving cross-Europe that took place between 13th and 19th September. The Spanish brand’s vehicle not only finished first place in the “small diesel” class but was also the overall winner with average fuel consumption of 3.8l / 100km.

A total of 42 teams from 14 different countries – including participants from Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy – took part in the Eco Tour 2008. The event aims to demonstrate the advantages of fuel-efficient driving, which in addition to reducing fuel costs also has less of an environmental impact.

The 20 participating vehicles were divided into six categories: “small vehicles”, “compact vehicles” and “family vehicles” with diesel and petrol engines. The teams switched cars within their category every day and covered distances of up to 400km a day. From the start in Barcelona, the route took participants through cities such as Avignon, Lyon, Geneva, Como, Stuttgart, Luxembourg and Brussels to the finish in The Hague.

The Ibiza ECOMOTIVE’s performance was superb, obtaining a worthy victory and demonstrating SEAT’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its influence when manufacturing economical vehicles that achieve great performances.

In line with this commitment, SEAT will present the ECOMOTIVE version of the new SEAT Ibiza at the next Paris Motor Show.
