Marcel Tiemann And Jim Matthews will bid for GTS Title

Phoenix Racing, one of the most successful and prestigious teams in the GT scene, has confirmed its full-season presence in the 2010 International GT Open, with an Audi R8 that will be driven by two heavy-weights names: Marcel Tiemann and Jim Matthews.

Phoenix Racing made its debut in the GT Open last year, in the Barcelona race, winning one of the GTS races with its Audi R8 driven by Deletraz-Piccini. The Nürburgring-based squad managed by Dirk Theimann is now back for a full-season effort with the Audi R8 and a pair of drivers that is certainly to be taken into account for the GTS title.

Germany’s Marcel Tiemann (36) is well-known in the GT scene, which he joined in 1997 as a Mercedes works driver after shining in Formula 3 (he won the Monaco GP in 1996). He has also raced in the DTM and ALMS and his most recent achievements include 4 consecutive wins in the last 4 editions of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

Tiemann will be associated to one of the stalwart GT and sportscars racers and team owners in America, Jim Matthews (49), who has most recently competed and won races in the Grand-Am, and claims five participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
