Anthony Kumpen and Greg Franchi have given the W Racing Team their first win in the Belcar Endurance Championship. Round 3 took place today at Spa-Francorchamps, during the 25 Hour VW Fun Cup weekend. With outside temps in the 90′s, 33 teams would hit the track during the hottest part of the day. The Lamborghini Gallardo of Team Agro was on pole for the start but that was short lived as Niels Lagrange went a bit wide in the chicane. This allowed Greg Franchi to pass in he Audi R8 LMS but unfortunately allowed the Porsche of Richard Westbrook to run into him.

With Westbrook out, the Lamborghini came in to pit lane which put them a lap down. It would retire later on in the race.

Viper’s, Aston Martin’s and Ferrari’s would also see the end of their days each with their own issues.

This left Greg Franchi in the WRT Audi R8 LMS to battle it out with Ruben Maes in the Prospeed Porsche 911 GT3-R. These two then left it up to their teammates to continue and finish the battle. Anthony Kumpen has to much for Enzo Ide and took the win. Enzo was able to keep the Ferrari F430 GT3 behind him in third.

“It is fantastic for the whole team that we achieved our first win here in the program of the 25h VW Fun Cup,” shouted Greg Franchi. “In the beginning of the race, I was a fraction faster Ruben. I put myself behind him, but at the end of my stint, my tires were fresher and I could take the lead. I continued from the 1:40 start at the wheel and with the same tires. We only had to change the tires once, compared to two in the Porsche. This is a big boost for the 24 Hours of Spa in three weeks.

The fourth place WRT Audi R8 LMS had some issues wit the fuel supply and even saw the engine engage security mode at one point. However, Bert Longin and Francois Verbist were able to maintain and hold fourth place and take a 1pt lead in the Championship.
