Flying Lizard’s Patrick Pilet on the Pole at Long Beach

We couldn’t be more stoked for the Lizards! We were at dinner and had the iPhone pointed to our ALMS page with the live updates. When the final minute was up, my son and I were slappin high-5′s and hootin! People thought we were coo-coo! If they only knew…

I we said earlier, qualifying will be a large focus. The Lizard’s set out early and the only mishap was a spin by the #44.

Bergmeister Second in GT2, Pechnik Eighth

Flying Lizard’s Patrick Pilet clocked the fastest GT2 lap time in today’s qualifying session for Saturday’s American Le Mans Series at Long Beach, putting the Lizard No. 46 Porsche on the pole. Teammate Joerg Bergmeister had the second fastest time of the session in the No. 45 Porsche and Lonnie Pechnik was eighth in the No. 44. This is the second pole in a row for the Lizard squad, following Wolf Henzler’s fast lap in the No. 45 at St. Petersburg 2 weeks ago.

Pilet commented on his first ALMS career pole, “The car was very fast, and the team did a really good job preparing the car: we were able to make improvements in every session. I went out on light fuel, so I really only had one shot to get it right, and everything went OK for me. Tomorrow, the race is just 1 hour and 40 minutes, it’s better to start in pole position, and important not to make any mistakes in the race. We have to have a good start and good strategy and be very fast during our driver change.”

The Lizard driver line up for the race is: No 44, Seth Neiman and Lonnie Pechnik; No. 45, Wolf Henzler and Joerg Bergmeister; No. 46, Johannes van Overbeek and Patrick Pilet.
