100 young apprentices will start training at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart this Monday. At the same time, the training course “industrial mechanic automotive manufacture” is celebrating one year of existence. Also this year, 14 apprentices in the program will learn through a great deal of practical application how a Porsche is produced – four women are also enrolled for the first time.
“As a manufacturer of sporty premium cars, we particularly value quality and customer satisfaction”, explains Thomas Edig, Head of Personnel and Social Affairs. Career entrants at Porsche will therefore be trained as highly qualified specialists, who make their own personal contribution to the success of the company with their demanding work. “The successful launch of our new career profile shows that we are on the right path. The first year was a complete success”, Dieter Esser, Porsche Head of Vocational Training, reflects.
In the training course “industrial mechanic automotive manufacture”, future specialists learn every single step involved in the production of a sports car in depth during three and a half years of practice-oriented training . At the same time, the traditional career paths including vehicle outfitter, painter and automobile mechatronics engineer will be offered. Following successful completion, all apprentices entered into a permanent employment relationship with the company so far.
This year, the majority of the technical career paths were also filled by lower secondary school students. “Our experience has shown that many students of the lower secondary school have turned out to be motivated young individuals, who are skilled in the trade”, explains Esser. German secondary school graduates have the opportunity to complete a program of study at the Dual University Baden-Wuerttemberg. The programs of study mechanical engineering, information systems, electrical engineering and industrial engineering will be offered.
During this year of training the sports car manufacturer will be training approximately 350 young people. Nearly 300 of them work at the headquarters in Zuffenhausen and other locations in the greater Stuttgart area. Roughly 50 apprentices are being trained at the Porsche plant in Leipzig, where the fourth model – the Porsche Panamera whose sales launch is nearing – has been manufactured alongside the Cayenne from the beginning of this year.
