The WTCC is starting to sound a bit like F1 (Max Mosley) with all the drama and rule changes at each race! Don’t ruin it for the fans! Here is a great read by Jan Nilsson over on TouringCarTimes.
The SEAT Sport team has not been able to achieve results that would match-up with their expectations in Pau. The performance of the five cars of the team was penalised due to the changes in the implementation procedures of the WTCC technical regulations.
Last Tuesday, the FIA limited the turbo pressure for TDI engines, eliminating the tolerance margin they had set at the beginning of the season in this race. In such a short period of time, the team was not able to adapt their cars to the new regulations, and in order to comply with them, they were forced to drastically reduce the performance of their engines, so that the drivers of the Spanish make were not able to keep their competitiveness in relation to their rivals.
After qualifying in the last positions of the grid in yesterday’s qualifying practices, the SEAT drivers had no options in any of the two races since overtaking is extremely difficult on the French racetrack. The best classified SEAT driver was Gabriele Tarquini, who was sixth in the second race, and the race winners were Robert Huff and Alain Menu, respectively.
Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport Director, stated: ‘Given the changes in the implementation of the technical rules, we were not able to do more’.
In the overall standings of the drivers’ championship, Yvan Muller continues in the lead, and SEAT keeps the top position in the manufacturers’ standings as well.
The next round of the championship will be staged on the Spanish racetrack of Cheste, in Valencia on 30th and 31st May.
