The Italian, who retired in the first race with brake problems, took the best start in the second race. Tarquini was jumping in the lead ahead of poleman Huff and Turkington. Later he was second. Tarquini completed a great defensive race, salvaging a second position that was completely unexpected, considering the brake problems he had had in the first race.

SEAT driver Tiago Monteiro finished the first race in eighth position, in the second race he retired due to a race incident.

Sunday’s two WTCC races in China did not help SEAT driver Michel Nykjaer make progress in the standings for the privateer championship. The Danish racing driver could only collect two points after an unlucky qualifying session, but he nevertheless managed to defend his third place in the table and is still in with a chance of taking the unofficial World championship in Macau in a fortnight.

Gabriele Tarquini was the most successful SEAT driver with two podium positions at the eighth World Touring Car Championship race weekend at Oschersleben.

The Touring Car World Champion from 2009 made up one position from fourth on the grid and was third in his Sunred SR Leon 1.6T in the first of two 14 lap races.

In the second race, which Tarquini tackled from sixth position due to the obligatory reverse grid, the Italian improved three positions and mounted the podium yet again thanks to his fine third place.

Local hero Tiago Monteiro was best-placed SEAT driver at the sixth race weekend of the WTCC round at Porto.
In the first race he won the fight with his fellow driver Gabriele Tarquini and secured fourth place in front of his home crowd.

Monteiro made it even better in the second race by clinching the podium at third place. Monteiro excited the Portuguese fans who were cheering for him on his run for a well deserved podium result. He won the battle for third place, managing to keep Norbert Michelisz and Tom Coronel at bay.

The Portuguese racer gave the first podium finish to the SEAT 1.6L turbo car.

“Yes, the team did a very good job in the two weeks after the disaster we had in Brno, when I used the new engine for the first time. Now the car is becoming competitive and has a very good potential still to be xploited.”

SEAT SUNRED driver, Michel Nykjaer, had a great weekend, adding another top five finish to his resume. Over the weekend, the fifth round of the WTCC took place at Brno. Nykjaer / SUNRED also won the independents class.

“Today, I feel happy. We have got speed in the car, and it has been a great Sunday after a Saturday with bad preparations. Even though we finished tenth in the first race, it was an acceptable result on the basis of the trouble that we have had,” Michel Nykjaer says.

Nykjaer’s SEAT Leon is equipped with the new 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine that was first run in Hungary.

Both Fredy Barth and Tiago Monteiro had troubles with their 1.6L Leons.

“I made a very good first start, where I overtook a couple of drivers in front of me, but then I was hit by my team mate Tarquini, which cost me a couple of positions,” Michel Nykjaer explains. “I managed to cross the finishing line as number 10, and that was an okay result.”

“For the second heat I was going to start from pole position. I got a good start and was running very even with Tom Coronel.”

Gabriele Tarquini finished in 6th.

At the second run of the WTCC race weekend in Budapest ,SEAT driver Gabriele Tarquini reached the podium.

The italian made the best out of the starting rain chaos during the second race. After a clever move, he placed his SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI in front of the field. But he wasn’t able to defend the lead. In the end he became third. Tarquini finished the first race in front of his Teammate Tiago Monteiro on place six.

During the second race, Monteiro also benefitted from the rain and reached the fifth place. In the overall standings Tarquini putted himself on fourth position (75 points) and overtook Monteiro (74).

SEAT driver Tiago Monteiro finished third and forth in the third round of FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) at Monza (Italy).

In the first race an exciting fight, though very fair, was fought for third place between Tiago Monteiro, Norbert Michelisz, Tom Coronel and Kristian Poulsen. The conclusion saw Monteiro sprinting in his SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI ahead of Michelisz by 0.030 seconds to grab the final spot on the podium.

In the second round Monteiro was the best driver of a SEAT again. He finished fourth – just 6.211 seconds behind winner Robert Huff.

SUNRED Engineering’s new 1.6-litre turbo engine is due to be used for the first time in the next WTCC event at Budapest.

The engine, designed and developed by the Spanish factory in cooperation with the Lehmann Motorentechnik AG, is currently undergoing an extensive program of bench tests.

“The first results of the tests are very good in terms of both, power and reliability and our plan is to test it for the first time in the car next week,” unveiled SUNRED’s principal Joan Orus. “In the meantime we are working to accomplish all the homologation formalities. Should everything is properly accomplished, we hope to start using the engine from the next event in Hungary.”

Belgian fans flocked to the Zolder track in a sunny Easter Sunday and were rewarded by two close races that saw Rob Huff and Gabriele Tarquini sharing victories in WTCC round 2.

The second race was one of the most exciting ever with Gabriele Tarquini and his SEAT León TDi being able to interrupt Chevrolet’s supremacy.

“This has been a great and unexpected result. Zolder is a very technical track, maybe the one in the championship that suits better to our car, and this helped me today. It is difficult to overtake here and when I managed to stay ahead after the first lap I said myself that it was my opportunity to go for a victory. I knew that Rob (Huff) would have hesitated to take great risks not to jeopardize his championship hopes, but when he did it I was ready to take an even greater risk, because today for me it was a matter of victory or nothing!”

After being forth in the first race in Zolder, Gabriele Tarquini (SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI) put in a fantastic effort to claim his first victory of the season in the second race and stop Chevrolet winning streak after three consecutive successes.

Having inherited pole on the reverse grid as Fredy Barth was unable to make the field, Tarquini took a great start and managed to keep the Chevrolet trio behind. In the first half of the race the Italian did not offer Rob Huff any opportunity for overtaking and when the Briton tried to muscle his way past him, Tarquini proved he still has enough grit to defend the lead.

Tiago Monteiro finished the first race as fifth, in the second race he climbed the podium with third place. Michel Nykjaer (SEAT) finished eighth and fifth.

The championship will resume at Monza, Italy, on May 15th for rounds 5 and 6.

Tom Coronel became once again the best driver of a SEAT Leon TDI at the WTCC event at Oschersleben (Germany).

At the first race the Dutchman finished forth in front of SEAT driver Tiago Monteiro. At the second race Coronel was fifth behind Michel Nykjaer (SEAT).

Michel Nykjær from Danmark was crossing the line seventh and fourth to take both rookie wins at Oschersleben.

The defending champion Gabriele Tarquini retired after an accident in the first race. The second race he finished ninth. With three races to go, Tarquini (196 points) is best SEAT driver in the overall standings ranking at third place.

Gabriele Tarquini finished second in the first of the two World Touring Car Championship races in Brno, Czech Republic.The defending champion started from second position on the grid in his SEAT León 2.0 TDI and was only beaten by winner Rob Huff (Chevrolet) after twelve laps.

In the second race Portuguese driver Tiago Monteiro collected the most points for the SEAT factory team after finishing sixth. Tarquini was forced to retire from the race due to technical problems while holding a promising position two laps from the finish.
