New sponsor, exciting calendar for Volkswagen Racing Cup's 10th anniversary

The Volkswagen Racing Cup is celebrating its 10th birthday in fine style – with a new title sponsor for 2010 and a superb provisional calendar for the coming season which includes the championship’s first-ever overseas event.

The new sponsor is Fuchs Lubricants, the world’s largest independent lubricant manufacturer, which plans to use its association with the championship as a platform for increasing awareness of Titan, the company’s superior range of automotive lubricants.

Fuchs Lubricants UK marketing manager Richard Barrett said: ‘We have a long and established reputation in many differing motorsport arenas. Our product development has always been closely linked with top level motorsport and this will be more evident in 2010. We have some exiting announcements to make next year and we are thrilled to be title sponsors of such a high calibre championship.’

Championship director Melissa Wright added: ‘We are delighted that Fuchs Lubricants is joining the Volkswagen Racing Cup as a partner; the association will be a major benefit to competitors and the championship as a whole. Fuchs Lubricants has exciting plans for the future and we are pleased to be able to support them. We are also very happy that Hankook, the championship’s exclusive tyre supplier since 2005, will continue to support the series for a fifth consecutive season.’

The championship has also revealed an impressive calendar for the coming year, with six UK double-header events supporting the British F3 and British GT Championships, with races at Oulton Park, Snetterton, Rockingham, Donington Park and the Grand Prix circuits at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

There will also be a twin-race event at the legendary Dutch circuit of Zandvoort. ‘The Volkswagen Racing Cup has never ventured outside Britain before,’ says Wright, ‘and we decided it was high time that it did. Zandvoort is a great circuit in a great location and will prove hugely popular with the teams and drivers, I am sure.’
