Two pole positions, two race victories and a pair of fastest laps: This is the excellent record for Volkswagen and Van Amersfoort Racing at the ATS Formula 3 Cup Germany season opener at Oschersleben.
On Easter Sunday Laurens Vanthoor (B) claimed a motorsport ‘full house’ with Volkswagen power in the back of his Dallara F307 chassis by winning from pole position and recording fastest lap in the process. Second place went to his team mate Stef Dusseldorp (NL), who, for his part, drove to victory on Easter Monday after setting the fastest race lap. Another one-two for the duo was prevented after von Vanthoor mad a jump start and was subsequently awarded a drive-through-penalty and only finished eleventh after fighting back through the field. After two of 19 races Dusseldorp leads the championship with 19 points ahead of Vanthoor with 13. Rafael Suzuki (BR) of Team Performance Racing also made an excellent ‘powered by Volkswagen’ start to the season after finishing fourth in the opening race and third in the second race and is equal third in the championship.
