Nears Completion of Season with Back-to-Back Races
The Jetta TDI Cup Series will make its second to last stop this weekend at Thunderbolt Raceway at New Jersey Motorsports Park with a schedule that includes back-to-back race days on Saturday and Sunday. Chris Castagna, South Boston, Mass., currently leads the championship point standings, but with a different winner at each of the five previous races, the championship is still up for grabs in the last three races of the season. The 30 minutes sprint races will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11:20 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8:15 a.m.
“Five races with five different first-place winners and incredible racing by these young drivers has made for a fantastic start to the series,” said Clark Campbell, motorsport manager, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “The conclusion of our season will be the most challenging for the drivers and team members, with back-to-back races starting last weekend in Iowa, our double-header in New Jersey and the conclusion in Atlanta on Oct. 4.
As all the cars are factory maintained, it is solely up to the drivers skill and our drivers are giving fans incredible racing to watch, which only continues to increase the interest in this new series and clean diesel racing.”
Shane Williams from the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup in Germany will be a guest driver in both races in New Jersey. Williams, 21, from Capetown, South Africa, was the mid-season points leader in the Volkswagen Polo Cup, and is part of the Volkswagen student exchange, a program established to link Volkswagen’s international one-make cups in China, Germany, Japan and the USA.
