DTM: Tom Kristensen sets fastest time in Eurospeedway warm-up

DTM fans can look forward to a hotly-contested second DTM season round at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, because the warm-up result promises a lot of excitement. Tom Kristensen, who will only be starting from 17th place after his troublesome qualifying with his Audi A4 DTM, has shown in warm-up how quick he can be at the EuroSpeedway – when the weather plays along.

With a fastest time of 1:18,610 minutes in warm-up, Kristensen showed that after his victory in the season opener at Hockenheim, he will also be a contender in the Lausitz. The second-fastest time on Sunday morning was set by Jamie Green with his Mercedes-Benz from last year. He was only a tiny 0.087 seconds down on Kristensen. Only slightly slower was Bruno Spengler, who drove the fastest 2009-spec AMG Mercedes C-Class on third place with 1:18.734 minutes.

After the announced engine change in Ralf Schumacher’s AMG-Mercedes C-Class, the former F1 star used warm-up as a function test for his car. For the driver from Kerpen, the focus was on making up for the experience he lacked from free practice and qualifying and preparing his car for the second round of the year.

Timo Scheider completed the highest number of laps in warm-up. The DTM champion’s 24 laps equalled almost half a race distance. His personal best lap time was enough for sixth place behind Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) and Mike Rockenfeller (Audi). They were followed by Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz), pole-sitter Mattias Ekström and Oliver Jarvis (both Audi). The top ten was completed by Susie Stoddart with her pink-coloured AMG-Mercedes C-Classe.

The second race at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz will start at 14.03 h sharp, ARD will be broadcasting live from 14.00 h.
