
Audi drivers Martin Tomczyk and Alexandre Prémat ended up first and second in the second free practice on Saturday morning. German driver Tomczyk set the fastest lap time of 1:32.560 minutes. Third place, only 0.187 seconds down on Tomczyk, was occupied by Bruno Spengler with his AMG Mercedes C-Class.
Second free practice at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg served as an appetizer for the upcoming qualifying: after 90 minutes, 13 drivers were within one second, down to eighth-placed Gary Paffett, the drivers even lapped within less than half a second.
Timo Scheider (Audi) ended up fourth in free practice. Having been fastest on Friday, the champion came 0.240 seconds short of the outright fastest lap time in the final test session before qualifying.
The DTM-rookies were close to each other. The fastest one was Miguel Molina with the Audi A4 DTM: the Spaniard ended up twelfth from CongFu Cheng (Mercedes-Benz), who was 14th. DTM-novice David Coulthard was classified 15th. Thus, the ex-Formula 1 driver, who is making his DTM-debut at Hockenheim, was faster than Ralf Schumacher. The German was 16th.
