Joerg Bergmeister qualified the No. 45 fifth in GT for Saturday’s four-hour Road Race Showcase at Road America with a time of 2:06.379 on the four-mile circuit. Teammate Marco Holzer was ninth in the No. 44 with a 2:06.838. Dirk Mueller of the No. 56 BMW is on the GT pole with a time of 2:05.447, a new class track record. Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR) and lead driver David Heinemeier Hansson will make their American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron debut in the No. 97 PNR/37signals Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the upcoming Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase event at Road America, August 18-20. Hansson and PNR will compete in the GT Challenge class and have signed international sports car talent Dominik Farnbacher to co-drive in Saturday’s featured four-hour race. The GTC category is often dizzy with lead changes and it was more of the same at Mid-Ohio. Spencer Pumpelly and Duncan Ende were one of the few duos to avoid penalties or spinning in the rain, thus enabling them to score their second GTC win in a row and third straight for TRG. The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR’s were showing good pace at Mid-Ohio during qualifying. In the end, Joerg Bergmeister put the no45 Flying Lizard Porsche on second row, forth in the session. This Saturday’s American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. may be the most important event on the nine-race 2011 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón schedule for Paul Miller Racing, which fields the Yokohama-shod No. 48 Marquis Jet/TOTAL/IPC Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the ALMS GT class. The high-consequence Long Beach circuit claimed the No. 45 of Patrick Long and Joerg Bergmeister nearing the halfway point of the race after an impact with the concrete wall damaged the suspension beyond what could be repaired during the short two-hour race. Darren Law and Seth Neiman fared better, bringing the No. 44 to an 8th place GT finish from its 13th place start. Living near the Grand Prix Circuit in Long Beach, Craig Stanton was more than a little motivated about competing in this weekend’s American Le Mans Series race at the world famous street circuit. His no. 77 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which was sponsored for the weekend by local hotspot Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles, would line up fourth in the GT-C class for Saturday’s two-hour ALMS contest.
