Italian driver Eugenio Amos secured double victory at the first race weekend of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Monza, Italy, on 16 April 2011. The Touringauto pilot set the pace not only in qualifying but during both of today’s races to put him top of the Pro-Am Drivers’ Standings.

Amos demonstrated that he’s in a strong position to defend his 2010 Pro-Am title by setting a fastest lap time of 1:51.892 in this morning’s 30-minute qualifying session behind the wheel of his #69 Super Trofeo race car. World-respected Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Hans-Joachim Stuck set the second fastest lap time of 1:52.005 in the #3 Bonaldi Motorsport entry. Meanwhile, 2010 Pro Drivers’ runner-up Peter Kox set a strong time of 1:52.774 to put his #76 Blancpain Reiter Engineering car on the second row of the grid.

As the Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars charged towards the start line for the first race, Amos led, closely followed by Kox’s team-mate Nico Pronk in the #76 entry, with Cedric Leimer in the #63 third. Amos began to extend his lead while Johannes Stuck, son of racing legend Hans, charged through the pack from the back row of the grid. By the sixth lap the talented pilot had reached second.

Following the pit-stops, Amos led the field across the finish line. Alberto Sabbatini, J. Stuck’s team-mate in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car secured second place after a strong performance. The #11 Autocarozzeria Imperiale S.R.L finished third after determined drives by both 2009 Pro Drivers’ Champion Fabio Babini and Matteo Zucchi from fifth on the grid.

At the start of round two, Amos was unable to fend off a hard-charging J. Stuck, and he was beaten to the first corner. J. Stuck led until the pit-stops when a quick change over from Babini and Zucchi allowed the #22 to take the lead. A confident drive saw Zucchi start to pull away from then second-place man Amos, but a left rear puncture on the final lap meant Zucchi fell down the order, crossing the finish line ninth, while allowing Amos to take his second win of the day.

Newcomer Roberto Seveso, claimed second place in the Autocarozzeria Imperiale S.R.L #20 Super Trofeo, with Autosprint’s Chief Editor and Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Sabbatini claiming the final step on the podium.

“It’s been a brilliant start to the season,” said Amos. “I pushed to the limit today and had great races. In race two I was lucky because I was actually second when Zucchi got a puncture. But, racing is like this and I was very relieved.”

“The Super Trofeo is a really nice car to drive”, said Italian driver Seveso. “I just needed some time to warm up. The car better it’s absolutely great and tomorrow we hope to go for the win!”

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo resumes tomorrow at 11:05 for the final race of the weekend.

Following two successful seasons, the ultra-competitive Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will return to the track for the start of the 2011 season. A field consisting solely of the iconic Italian marque’s Super Trofeo race cars will do battle in the season opener at Monza, Italy, on 16-17 April.

With six race meetings across a selection of the most demanding circuits in Europe, including Spa-Francorchamps and Paul Ricard HTTT, the series will see a grid of both professional and ‘gentlemen’ drivers take to the track behind the wheel of a Super Trofeo race car, a lightweight version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4.

The 2010 Pro-Am Drivers’ Champion Eugenio Amos will return to defend his crown with Touringauto, which took second in last year’s Teams’ Championship, while 2010 Pro Drivers’ runner-up Fabio Babini will be aiming to go one better and clinch the title this year.

Babini and new Pro-Am team-mate Matteo Zucchi will face strong opposition from Blancpain Reiter Engineering’s Peter Kox, 2010 ADAC GT Masters Champion and 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner, who’ll also be chasing the title with fellow Dutchman Nico Pronk. Brotherly rivalry will continue between Herve and Cedric Leimer as they once again contest against each other, while Swiss pilot Dominique Lucas will also come back to the fold.

The three-car team of Charouz-Gravity Racing will compete following a strong showing in 2010, with Petr Charouz signing up for his third season, joining Austrian racer Gerhard Tweraser in the #77 car. Jakub Knoll will make his series debut at Monza partnering Czech driver Jan Stovicek, who is entering the Super Trofeo for a second year.

Former Formula One driver Hans-Joachim Stuck will also take to the track at Monza in the #3 Bonaldi Motorsport car with Michael Ruh. However, it won’t be an easy ride as a host of new drivers look forward to beating the well-respected German racer. Among them will be Stuck’s son Johannes, who will share the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car with Autosprint’s Editor-in-Chief Alberto Sabbatini.

New entrants for 2011 include Italian pilots Riccardo Ragazzi and Gianluca Carboni, who join the series from the Ferrari Challenge and will be looking to compete for top honours straight away. Italian Pro-Am Roberto Seveso will drive with Imperiale Racing, while Swiss Pro-Am driver Remy Vauthier will make his Super Trofeo debut alongside fellow countryman Laurent Jenny, who took part in two race weekends last season.

The opening weekend at Monza will also welcome Luigi Ferrara, winner of the 2005 Italian Formula Three Championship. Ferrara will join the field as part of an agreement between Lamborghini and the CSAI, the Commission of Automobile Sport for Italy.

The Super Trofeo race car comes equipped with a V10 ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine, meaning entrants will have 570 hp under their right foot as they vie for position during the series’ 18 races.

While the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is the world’s fastest one-make series, the race car is focused on both speed and safety. Among its many features are an FIA FT-3 fuel cell, a full roll cage, a new Brembo Racing brake system and HANS device compatibility.

“We have enjoyed two strong years of competition in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo,” said Maurizio Reggiani, Automobili Lamborghini Director of Research and Development, and responsible for motorsport. “The drivers love the handling and power of the Super Trofeo race car, so I’ve no doubt that the 2011 season will not only be another huge success, but also competitive on the track.”

The 2011 calendar for Lamborghini’s one-make series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, has been confirmed. The series will visit circuits across Europe in 2011 as professional and gentleman drivers compete for Lamborghini honours at the wheel of 570hp V10 Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars.

2011 marks the third year of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo following two seasons of close competition, where the series’ titles have remained undecided until the final event. Once again, the series will visit demanding circuits across the continent, including the iconic Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and the technically challenging Paul Ricard in France. A new addition for 2011, the Super Trofeo season-opener will be held at the renowned Italian circuit of Monza in April.

Lamborghini will continue its partnership with the FIA GT1 World Championship this coming season, visiting both Silverstone and Paul Ricard alongside the prestigious series. It will also support the new GT Endurance Series, which will be launched by SRO in 2011, as well as the ADAC GT Masters and International GT Open. Lamborghini and Blancpain will also continue its highly successful collaboration, combining exquisite engineering from the two complementary luxury brands.

Due to the high level of competition in previous seasons, the format of the series will remain the same: each race weekend will consist of three 40-minute races, a 30-minute qualifying session and 40 minutes free practice.

However, as part of the continuing evolution of the series, new driver classifications will be introduced in 2011. Competing drivers will be classified under FIA guidelines and issued with Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze status, depending on their experience. Lamborghini will also introduce a Rookie category for new drivers who have not previously competed.

“We are keeping key elements that have contributed to the series’ success to date: firstly, our prestigious partner Blancpain, and secondly our race format,” said Automobili Lamborghini’s Director of Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani. “We are looking forward to seeing these race versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo back on track with yet another competitive and entertaining season.”

Guest drivers Johnny Cecotto and Johnny Cecotto jr. won the first two races of the last racing weekend of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at Vallelunga.

With his victory in the final race Mirko Venturi, who was supported by Tommaso Maino, secured the title in the pro driver standings. In the amateur category Eugenio Amos finished the season with the most points.

In the searing Hungarian heat, Peter Kox and Marc A. Hayek returned to race-winning form at the penultimate 2010 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race weekend at the Hungaroring on 21-22 August 2010. The Blancpain Reiter Engineering duo secured victories in both rounds 14 and 15 to close the gap between them and their title rivals in the Pro and Pro-Am Drivers’ Standings.

Also taking part in the series this weekend were Hungarian FIA World Touring Car Championship driver Norbert Michelisz and fellow countryman, GT3 driver Csaba Walter. Paired with Lamborghini test-driver Giorgio Sanna in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP race car, Michelisz secured a best result of fourth during the weekend. Meanwhile, Walter drove with Belgian GT3 driver Stéphane Lemeret, claiming a fifth and a sixth place finish. Not only did Lemeret compete in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series, but both he and 2009 Super Trofeo Pro Drivers’ Champion Fabio Babini also took part in the Le Mans Series endurance race.

The Super Trofeo series welcomed Czech gentleman driver Milan Urban for his maiden race weekend. Milan, who is Minister of Trade and Industry in the Czech Republic, drove the #77 Charouz-Gravity Racing car alongside his brother Jan. Competing together in the series for the first time, the Czech duo secured a top 10 finish.

Qualifying
Black Bull Swiss Racing topped the timesheets in qualifying for the second time this season when Mirko Venturi guided the #46 Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car around the Hungarian circuit in 1:50.878. VIP driver Michelisz set the second fastest lap time of 1:51.592 in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini car, while Ferruccio Bellini, driving for the Bonaldi Motorsport operation, completed the top trio in the #3 car with a fastest lap of 1:52.255.

Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse driver Nicolas Navarro secured the fourth place on the grid after setting a fastest lap of 1:52.345 in the #63, while Kox claimed the fifth spot with a 1:52.361.

“Everything went very well this morning,” said pole-setter Venturi. “It is really important to start at the front at the Hungaroring, as it is a very demanding circuit. Babini and Kox did not represent a threat today and hopefully in race one we will prove to be the best!”

Round 13
Venturi’s team-mate Tommaso Maino started on pole for round 13 but went wide at the first corner and spun, putting him back to sixth place. From eighth on the grid, Fabio Babini charged through in the #22 MIK Corse Super Trofeo to lead the pack out of the first corner. Babini continued to head the field with Sanna behind the wheel of the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car in pursuit.

On lap eight the pitlane opened for driver changes: Sanna pitted to hand over to Michelisz. Meanwhile, Babini was still out on track increasing his lead. The Italian driver entered the pits to pass over the #22 to team-mate Gian Luigi Piccioli, but Piccioli was unable to rejoin the track before the #63, piloted by Navarro, passed the pit exit for the lead.

Having rejoined in second place, Piccioli began to fall down the order. Bellini moved up to second and was defending from Venturi, who had taken over the #46 from Maino. Navarro took the chequered flag to secure Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse’s maiden Super Trofeo victory. Behind, Bellini slipped down the field: Venturi passed for second place, while Piccioli got past at the penultimate corner for the last podium position.

“This is the first time we raced with this car and we have already secured a victory, so this is fantastic,” said Navarro. “The car performed perfectly. During the race we tried to push as much as we could. I would like to say thanks to Cedric and the Autovitesse team for doing a great job. I dedicate this victory to Lionel Régal, who died last week during a race in Switzerland.”

Round 14
From pole, Cedric Leimer took the lead on the first lap, but lost out to Babini in the #22 on lap two. The MIK Corse driver led until lap six when he retired with a technical issue. Second-place man Sanna in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car took the lead with Italian Pro-Am Eugenio Amos charging hard behind.

Following the pit-stops, it was Kox way out in front. The Dutch driver had received the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering Super Trofeo in sixth place after his team-mate Hayek had fought his way through from 12th on the grid, and Kox had worked his way through to the front.

Kox maintained his lead until the finish line, claiming the top step on the Super Trofeo podium for the third time this season. Amos finished second with Bellini securing a much-deserved third place. Michelisz claimed fourth in the #1 race car, while Lemeret put in a strong drive to secure a fifth-place finish.

“It’s an excellent feeling, I am a little relieved that our bad luck has finally ended,” said Hayek. “The boys at Blancpain Reiter Engineering worked incredibly hard until six in the morning to make the car perfect and they accomplished it.”

Round 15
Kox led the final race of the weekend from the start. The 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner was followed by Amos in the #69 Super Trofeo race car and Sanna in the #1. The trio continued to lap the circuit in order until lap six when Sanna retired with a technical issue. In the #2 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car, Walter moved up to third place with Bellini behind.

At the mandatory pit-stops Kox handed over the #24 to team-mate Hayek, who continued to lead the race. Amos rejoined the field in second place, seven seconds behind a charging Hayek, with Venturi in the #46 charging through to third by lap 17.

In the closing laps, Amos reduced the gap to just a car’s length, but was unable to make the final leap and get past the determined Hayek, who crossed the finish line first with Amos behind to claim his second victory of the weekend, while Venturi completed the podium.

“We had a very good start, then I tried to push hard to open a gap but it was a close race,” said Kox. “Marc held Amos behind very well, I wasn’t sure if we could make it to the end but we did and got the victory which is fantastic.”

“When I took over from Peter I knew that it would be a very close fight with Amos,” added Hayek. “I tried really hard and in the end it worked. I feel the improvement since last year and I hope to keep getting better as a driver!”

Following the three rounds in Hungary, Venturi continues to lead the Pro Drivers’ Standings on 112 points, while Amos heads up the Pro-Am Drivers’ Standings on 120 points. In the Teams’ Standings Touringauto tops the leaderboard on 120 points.

The 2010 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series will conclude with the final three rounds at Vallelunga, Italy, on 24-26 September 2010.

As the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo enters the second half of its season, the on-track battles have become even more intense, and this was clearly demonstrated at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, on 29-31 July 2010. Black Bull Swiss Racing drivers Mirko Venturi and Tommaso Maino came out on top, securing two victories and enough points to put the team tied top of the Teams’ Standings.

Taking part in the Super Trofeo series this weekend was former Formula 3000 driver and Dutch RTL Formula One commentator Allard Kalff. The Dutchman joined by fellow countryman and Autosport.nl journalist Rob Kamphues in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP race car. The pair showed strong form, qualifying third on Thursday and claiming a fourth-place finish in the final race of the weekend. Meanwhile, EVO UK journalists Roger Green and John Barker piloted the #2 Automobili Lamborghini Super Trofeo, achieving a best result of sixth in round 10.

Qualifying

In wet conditions Marc A. Hayek took to the track first for qualifying in the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering race car, posting strong times to put the #24 as high as third during the first half of the session. The Swiss driver then handed over to Peter Kox, who set a fastest lap of 2:47.902 to put the pair on the top of the timesheets then improving this to 2:46.687 before the end of the session.

Italian Venturi set the second fastest lap time of 2:47.902 in the #46 Super Trofeo race car, while it was VIP driver Kalff who set the third fastest time of 2:49.016 in his debut piloting the #1 Automobili Lamborghini car. MIK Corse driver new entrant Luigi Moccia lapped the historic circuit in 2:49.493, while EVO UK journalist Barker was just 0.084 seconds behind, setting the fifth fastest lap time.

“Spa is fantastic!” said Hayek. “It’s probably the most interesting and most challenging track on the calendar. There is no room to try a different racing line: you have to get it right, and with the weather difficult to foresee, it is made even more of a challenge.”

Round 10

Black Bull Swiss Racing secured its first victory of the season in round 10. From second on the grid Maino put in a strong drive in the #46, handing over to team-mate Venturi in third place. Venturi then charged after the cars ahead, passing Pro-Am driver Ferruccio Bellini in the #3 Bonaldi Motorsport Super Trofeo before reducing the 13-second gap from the leader. In the final lap Venturi caught Moccia in the #22 and passed to claim the team’s maiden Super Trofeo win.

Moccia crossed the line second with Nicolas Navarro in the #63 Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse race car having improved their seventh-place start to complete the top three. Also putting in a strong drive was Touringauto pilot Eugenio Amos, who drove his #69 Super Trofeo race car from eighth to fourth.

Pole-sitter Hayek slipped back to sixth at the start of round 10 before handing over to team-mate Peter Kox. Kox then charged around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering Super Trofeo, posting the fastest lap of the race on lap 13, but only managed to climb to fifth by the chequered flag.

“I had a very good start and managed to keep the lead during the first lap,” said Maino. “Fabio [Babini] was faster and I had to let him go, but Mirko [Venturi] was fantastic after the driver change. I am very happy about the win and to share it with Mirko and the team. They have done a great job and the car performed very well today.”

Round 11

The second race of the weekend played host to a battle between the Italian duo of Babini and Venturi: however it was Babini who triumphed and claimed the victory. From second on the grid Babini’s team-mate Moccia took the lead, passing
pole-sitter Maino in the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing car.

Moccia continued to lead the field, handing over the #22 to Babini during the mandatory pit-stop with Venturi now behind the wheel of the #46. As the clock ticked down the minutes, Venturi charged hard to catch the #22 ahead. On the penultimate lap, Venturi made his move and passed Babini, but the MIK Corse driver reclaimed the lead before the end of the lap. The two 570 hp Super Trofeo race cars were neck-and-neck until the very last corner, but it was Babini who inched across the finish line first to claim MIK Corse’s fourth win of the season.

Kox crossed the finish line third in the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering car, while 25-year-old Touringauto driver Amos secured a fourth-place finish after a consistent drive in the #69 Super Trofeo.

VIP driver Kalff, who started from the very back of the grid, was aiming for a first-place finish and managed to climb through the pack to as high as second during the 40-minute race. He then handed over to team-mate Kamphues, who struggled in the field and slipped back to finish seventh. Meanwhile in the #2 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car EVO UK journalist Roger Green finished 10th having suffered a puncture in the closing laps.

“It was a very close race,” said MIK Corse driver Babini. “Venturi was very fast and I had to push extremely hard to stay ahead of him. It’s a good result for the team, who have moved up to first in the Teams’ Standings.”

Round 12

The competition got intense in the final round of the weekend. From second on the grid Maino had a strong start in the #46 to take the lead ahead of Moccia in the #22. However, Moccia fought back on the third lap and as the pair battled for first place, the #22 went off track, losing pace and slipping back to fourth. Amos was second in the order with Hayek behind in the #24: as Moccia attempted to get back through the field, he and Hayek collided, putting both the #22 and #24 out of the race.

With the pit lane open at the 15-minute stage in the race, Maino entered to hand the #46 over to team-mate Venturi, allowing Amos to take the lead. With Venturi back out on track, he quickly chased down the #69 Super Trofeo race car, passing Amos to lead the field across the finish line for their second victory of the weekend.

Amos finished second to claim his fifth podium of the season so far, while Bellini improved his fifth-place start in the #3 Super Trofeo to third, making it an all-Italian podium for round 12. Behind, Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Kalff claimed his highest placing finish of the weekend by crossing the line fourth, while Dominique Lucas claimed fifth in the #19 Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse race car.

“Tommaso had a fantastic first stint, then when I got in the car the team told me that the only person ahead was Amos, so I pushed to overtake him: the car was perfect!” said Venturi. “At Paul Ricard I promised the Black Bull Swiss Racing team that I would not shave off my beard until we won a race, so yesterday I shaved, and now I have earned the right to shave again today!”

Venturi now leads the Pro Drivers’ standings with 90 points, six ahead of MIK Corse and inaugural Pro Drivers’ Champion Babini. The double victory for Maino has moved him up to second in the Pro-Am Drivers’ Standings with 76 points, where he is tied with Bonaldi Motorsport driver Bellini. Amos continues to lead the Pro-Am Standings, having extended his lead to 14 points, with a total of 90. Touringauto and Black Bull Swiss Racing are tied at the top of the Teams’ Standings, both with 90 points each, while MIK Corse is second with 87.

The penultimate race weekend of the 2010 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will take place alongside the Le Mans Series at the Hungaroring, Hungary, on 21-22 August 2010.

Black Bull Swiss Racing secured its first victory in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Spa-Francorchamps on 30 July 2010. From second on the grid Italian Tommaso Maino put in a strong drive, handing the 570 hp #46 Super Trofeo race car over to team-mate Mirko Venturi in third place. Venturi then charged after race leader Luigi Moccia in the #22 MIK Corse race car, reeling in what was a 13 second gap each lap.

With five minutes remaining, Venturi was 2.019 seconds behind the leader, reducing this to just 0.506 on the penultimate lap. As he navigated the complicated circuit for the final time he managed to pass Moccia for the lead, crossing the line 0.526 ahead of his rival.

Third to finish was Nicolas Navarro in the #63 Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse race car. The French driver’s team-mate Cedric Leimer had started seventh on the grid and climbed to fourth before handing over to Navarro who put the car on the podium. Touringauto pilot Eugenio Amos put in a strong drive to climb from eighth to finish fourth during the 40-minute race.

Pole-sitter Marc A. Hayek had a difficult start in the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering car, slipping back to sixth on the first lap. His team-mate Peter Kox charged around the circuit in the second stint, but despite setting the fastest race lap of 2:28.639 during the 13th lap, he was unable to catch Amos.

Automobili Lamborghini VIP drivers Roger Green and John Barker finished the race sixth in the #2 Super Trofeo race car, while Rob Kamphues was involved in an incident on the first lap in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car that put him and team-mate Allard Kalff into retirement.

Round 11 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will take place at 16:30 (CET) this afternoon.

Italian team MIK Corse secured all three victories in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Paul Ricard HTTT, France, on 3-4 July 2010. Drivers Fabio Babini and Albert von Thurn und Taxis guided the team’s #22 Super Trofeo race car around the French circuit to claim 45 points, elevating MIK Corse from fourth to second in the Teams’ Standings.

Also competing at Paul Ricard this weekend was former Ferrari Formula One driver Stefan Johansson, who got behind the wheel of the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car with team-mate Peter Wyss. The pair claimed sixth and fifth-place finishes in rounds seven and nine respectively while a collision in round eight forced them to retire.

Football fans were also catered for as France’s former national goalkeeper and 1998 FIFA World Champion Fabien Barthez piloted the #2 Automobili Lamborghini together with French sports car star Anthony Beltoise. The duo secured sixth, seventh and ninth-place finishes during the weekend.

Qualifying

Jarek Janiš secured his first Super Trofeo pole position during the 30-minute qualifying session on Friday. The Czech driver set the fastest lap time of 2:12.316 in the #77 Charouz-Gravity Racing Super Trofeo entry to put his team-mate Jan Urban on the front row of the grid for round seven.

Mirko Venturi lapped the French circuit in 2:12.500 behind the wheel of the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing Super Trofeo to put his Italian team-mate Tommaso Maino second on the grid. Behind, German driver von Thurn und Taxis lined up third after team-mate Babini set a fastest lap time of 2:12.631 in the #22 MIK Corse entry, while Jarek Janiš’ younger brother Erik set the fourth fastest lap time of 2:12.890 to put team-mate Petr Charouz on the second row for round seven.

Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Beltoise set the seventh fastest lap time, allowing his team-mate Barthez to make a fourth-row start in the #2 Super Trofeo. Meanwhile, Johansson set the eighth fastest lap time in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car to put Wyss alongside the #2 car.

“I managed to get a clean run with no traffic so I could get the best out of the car and the tyres,” said Janiš. “Tyre pressure is the key to this weekend as it is extremely hot and the track is abrasive. I’m also very happy for my brother Erik, who managed to get the fourth fastest time!”

Round seven

From second on the grid it was Maino in the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing entry that took the lead, passing Urban before the first corner. However, his lead was short-lived as von Thurn und Taxis in the #22 charged through from third to take the lead by the end of the second lap. Cedric Leimer in the #63 Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse Super Trofeo had improved his position from sixth to third before a spin put him back to seventh, allowing Italian Pro-Am driver Eugenio Amos to take third.

During the mandatory pit-stop von Thurn und Taxis handed the #22 entry to team-mate Babini, who was back in the lead by lap 12. Venturi was in hot pursuit in the #46, having taken over from team-mate Maino: the Italian soon passed #69 Touringauto driver Amos for second and was catching the leader.

With the clock ticking, Venturi closed in on Babini, reducing the gap by over a second each lap. However, he was unable to catch the Italian before the chequered flag: Babini crossed the line first to claim victory, while Venturi was forced to settle for second place. The #63, piloted by Nicolas Navarro, completed the podium.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to be back on the top of the podium,” said Babini. “Our strategy in qualifying was not to be on pole but to save the tyres because the track is very abrasive. This strategy really paid off.

“I would like to dedicate this victory to Giorgio Bartocci,” continued Babini, referring to his MIK Corse team-mate. “I wish him a fast recovery and hope to see him return to racing.”

Round eight

Von Thurn und Taxis was on pole in the #22 MIK Corse entry for round eight, but it was Maino that took the lead again in the #46, with the #22 second and the #63 third with Navarro behind the wheel. As von Thurn und Taxis chased the leader he made a mistake, jumping the chicane: the German driver let the #46 back through, with Navarro taking advantage of the situation to pass for second in the #63.

The top three drivers continued to lap the track within a second of each other, with the #63 and #22 continuously looking to pass the car ahead. As the pit window opened with 25 minutes left on the clock, Maino in the #46 entered the pit to hand over to Venturi. In the lead, Navarro pulled away from the field, creating a gap before entering the pit. However, the #63 missed the pit window by 0.266 seconds: his team-mate Cedric Leimer rejoined the field in the lead but was issued with a stop-and-go penalty, putting him back to sixth.

Venturi inherited the lead while Babini in the #22 quickly closed in on the #46: with just one lap remaining Babini was 0.543 seconds behind. As the pair entered the final sequence of corners on the last lap, Babini made a lunge and passed Venturi, crossing the line first to claim the second MIK Corse victory of the weekend. Venturi finished second with Italian
Pro-Am driver Bellini in third.

Second-place finisher Venturi said: “This has been a great start of the weekend for us. It is the first time that Tommaso and I have raced together and second place is a fantastic result. The team is working very hard and the results are coming, we will race to win in the final round.”

Round nine

Starting from pole for the final race of the weekend, von Thurn und Taxis maintained his lead as the lights went green, with Eugenio Amos climbing from fourth on the grid to second place in the first lap. By the end of lap five, Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Anthony Beltoise had improved his seventh-place starting position to third before passing Amos for second on lap six.

During the mandatory pit stop von Thurn und Taxis handed over to team-mate Babini, who was leading the race again by lap 12. Beltoise also pitted to hand over to Fabien Barthez: the #2 rejoined the pack in eighth place.

With five laps remaining, second-place man Amos began reeling in the MIK Corse lead, reducing the gap to 1.328 seconds on the penultimate lap. However, Amos in the Touringauto entry was unable to catch Babini. The #22 MIK Corse entry claimed its third victory of the weekend with Amos second, while the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing Super Trofeo piloted by Mirko Venturi crossed the line third.

Automobili Lamborghini VIP drivers Stefan Johansson and team-mate Peter Wyss secured a fifth-place finish in the final round of the weekend in the #1 entry, while Beltoise and Barthez claimed a sixth-place finish in the #2 Automobili Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

“I’m blown away,” said von Thurn und Taxis. “I’m so happy with this result, three wins in France is just amazing. Super Trofeo made my weekend!”

“The championship is exceeding my expectations: the drivers are very committed to the series,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The series fits the overall goal of creating a strong relationship with our customers, dealers and racing fans in general.”

The next Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race weekend takes place at
Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, on 29-31 July 2010, supporting the FIA GT1 World Championship.

Italian team MIK Corse secured all three victories in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Paul Ricard HTTT, France, on 3-4 July 2010. Drivers Fabio Babini and Albert von Thurn und Taxis guided the team’s #22 Super Trofeo race car around the French circuit to claim 45 points, elevating MIK Corse from fourth to second in the Teams’ Standings.

Also competing at Paul Ricard this weekend was former Ferrari Formula One driver Stefan Johansson, who got behind the wheel of the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car with team-mate Peter Wyss. The pair claimed sixth and fifth-place finishes in rounds seven and nine respectively while a collision in round eight forced them to retire.

Football fans were also catered for as France’s former national goalkeeper and 1998 FIFA World Champion Fabien Barthez piloted the #2 Automobili Lamborghini together with French sports car star Anthony Beltoise. The duo secured sixth, seventh and ninth-place finishes during the weekend.

Qualifying

Jarek Janiš secured his first Super Trofeo pole position during the 30-minute qualifying session on Friday. The Czech driver set the fastest lap time of 2:12.316 in the #77 Charouz-Gravity Racing Super Trofeo entry to put his team-mate Jan Urban on the front row of the grid for round seven.

Mirko Venturi lapped the French circuit in 2:12.500 behind the wheel of the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing Super Trofeo to put his Italian team-mate Tommaso Maino second on the grid. Behind, German driver von Thurn und Taxis lined up third after team-mate Babini set a fastest lap time of 2:12.631 in the #22 MIK Corse entry, while Jarek Janiš’ younger brother Erik set the fourth fastest lap time of 2:12.890 to put team-mate Petr Charouz on the second row for round seven.

Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Beltoise set the seventh fastest lap time, allowing his team-mate Barthez to make a fourth-row start in the #2 Super Trofeo. Meanwhile, Johansson set the eighth fastest lap time in the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car to put Wyss alongside the #2 car.

“I managed to get a clean run with no traffic so I could get the best out of the car and the tyres,” said Janiš. “Tyre pressure is the key to this weekend as it is extremely hot and the track is abrasive. I’m also very happy for my brother Erik, who managed to get the fourth fastest time!”

Round seven

From second on the grid it was Maino in the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing entry that took the lead, passing Urban before the first corner. However, his lead was short-lived as von Thurn und Taxis in the #22 charged through from third to take the lead by the end of the second lap. Cedric Leimer in the #63 Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter Suisse Super Trofeo had improved his position from sixth to third before a spin put him back to seventh, allowing Italian Pro-Am driver Eugenio Amos to take third.

During the mandatory pit-stop von Thurn und Taxis handed the #22 entry to team-mate Babini, who was back in the lead by lap 12. Venturi was in hot pursuit in the #46, having taken over from team-mate Maino: the Italian soon passed #69 Touringauto driver Amos for second and was catching the leader.

With the clock ticking, Venturi closed in on Babini, reducing the gap by over a second each lap. However, he was unable to catch the Italian before the chequered flag: Babini crossed the line first to claim victory, while Venturi was forced to settle for second place. The #63, piloted by Nicolas Navarro, completed the podium.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to be back on the top of the podium,” said Babini. “Our strategy in qualifying was not to be on pole but to save the tyres because the track is very abrasive. This strategy really paid off.

“I would like to dedicate this victory to Giorgio Bartocci,” continued Babini, referring to his MIK Corse team-mate. “I wish him a fast recovery and hope to see him return to racing.”

Round eight

Von Thurn und Taxis was on pole in the #22 MIK Corse entry for round eight, but it was Maino that took the lead again in the #46, with the #22 second and the #63 third with Navarro behind the wheel. As von Thurn und Taxis chased the leader he made a mistake, jumping the chicane: the German driver let the #46 back through, with Navarro taking advantage of the situation to pass for second in the #63.

The top three drivers continued to lap the track within a second of each other, with the #63 and #22 continuously looking to pass the car ahead. As the pit window opened with 25 minutes left on the clock, Maino in the #46 entered the pit to hand over to Venturi. In the lead, Navarro pulled away from the field, creating a gap before entering the pit. However, the #63 missed the pit window by 0.266 seconds: his team-mate Cedric Leimer rejoined the field in the lead but was issued with a stop-and-go penalty, putting him back to sixth.

Venturi inherited the lead while Babini in the #22 quickly closed in on the #46: with just one lap remaining Babini was 0.543 seconds behind. As the pair entered the final sequence of corners on the last lap, Babini made a lunge and passed Venturi, crossing the line first to claim the second MIK Corse victory of the weekend. Venturi finished second with Italian
Pro-Am driver Bellini in third.

Second-place finisher Venturi said: “This has been a great start of the weekend for us. It is the first time that Tommaso and I have raced together and second place is a fantastic result. The team is working very hard and the results are coming, we will race to win in the final round.”

Round nine

Starting from pole for the final race of the weekend, von Thurn und Taxis maintained his lead as the lights went green, with Eugenio Amos climbing from fourth on the grid to second place in the first lap. By the end of lap five, Automobili Lamborghini VIP driver Anthony Beltoise had improved his seventh-place starting position to third before passing Amos for second on lap six.

During the mandatory pit stop von Thurn und Taxis handed over to team-mate Babini, who was leading the race again by lap 12. Beltoise also pitted to hand over to Fabien Barthez: the #2 rejoined the pack in eighth place.

With five laps remaining, second-place man Amos began reeling in the MIK Corse lead, reducing the gap to 1.328 seconds on the penultimate lap. However, Amos in the Touringauto entry was unable to catch Babini. The #22 MIK Corse entry claimed its third victory of the weekend with Amos second, while the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing Super Trofeo piloted by Mirko Venturi crossed the line third.

Automobili Lamborghini VIP drivers Stefan Johansson and team-mate Peter Wyss secured a fifth-place finish in the final round of the weekend in the #1 entry, while Beltoise and Barthez claimed a sixth-place finish in the #2 Automobili Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

“I’m blown away,” said von Thurn und Taxis. “I’m so happy with this result, three wins in France is just amazing. Super Trofeo made my weekend!”

“The championship is exceeding my expectations: the drivers are very committed to the series,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The series fits the overall goal of creating a strong relationship with our customers, dealers and racing fans in general.”

The next Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race weekend takes place at
Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, on 29-31 July 2010, supporting the FIA GT1 World Championship.

A very unfortunate result for the pole sitting #22 MIK Corse of Fabio Babini and Giorgio Bartocci. The reason for the crash is still unknown and the video does not show the actual events that took place. Bartocci was pulled from the burning car after what seems is an eternity for us. The video shows a unbelievably slow response time from everyone. Even the first guy out does not even go straight to Bartocci. It is said an Aston Martin Racing technician pulled him from the car. His condition is stable and he does remain in intensive care. He was conscious and communicating with doctors.

We wish him a speedy recovery and our prayers go out to him and his family.

Following the incident in yesterday’s round four of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, after which the race was cancelled, a unanimous decision has been taken by all teams today to cancel the remainder of the weekend’s racing. 

The driver of car number 22, Giorgio Bartocci, was taken to hospital following an accident at the start of the first race of the weekend. He remains in intensive care in hospital in Brno, where his condition is currently stable.

Rounds four, five and six of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo are therefore officially cancelled.
