Ready for a History Lesson?

The crew over a volksbloggin found a great article over on The Truth About Cars TTAC, written by Thomas Minzenmay. I have skimmed over it a bit but need some quiet time tonight to really enjoy it. Thomas sets us up by telling us his fifst car was an ’89 Passat wagon. From there he leads into 1933 and Hitler and the KDF-Wagen in to the Beetle. There is no mention of Porsche. Again, I have yet to read it all.

Either way it’s a two part article. I’m sure any dub rider will enjoy.

If you want a great book regarding the history of the beetle, check out Small Wonder by Walter Henry Nelson. You can pick it up through the Performance Store or the link.

Two fantastic articles about the past, present and future of “the people’s car”.

The Truth About Cars, one of my favorite automotive blogs, has two awesome posts about “Volkswagen’s long raod to recovery”. If you have about 10 minutes, I really suggest you read them.

The first starts with VW’s foundation by one Adolph Hitler and moves on to explain the history surrounding the birth of “the people’s car”, it’s rise to popularity, the labor union’s stranglehold on management and how Porsche could be VW’s savior.

The second deals more with the company’s future, looking at the partnership with DaimlerChrysler, fixing production problems with the Golf (Rabbit) and it’s continuing success in China.

Great stuff as always from TTAC. Happy reading!
