To put it mildly, Southern Worthersee 2011 was insane! The U.S. “festival” that pays tribute to the Austrian Worthersee Treffen, has once again doubled in numbers. From 200 cars in 2007 to roughly 800 in 2010, the last we heard about midday, Saturday, was 1500. Word on the street is that the number was around 2400!

On the day of the Rapture, the field across the river was a godsend. Owners of the property opened it up to the SoWo event and H20Tuning. This only means 2012 will be epic!

Our trip started late Saturday morning. The drive up was rather quiet as most dubbers were already chillin hungover in Helen. To celebrate the 5th Anniversary, APR Motorsports threw a “Taste of Germany” on Friday evening.

When you enter Helen, GA you are immediately greeted with Germany. The town was built in the late 1960′s at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tight, twisty roads lead you into town and down to the river where SoWo takes place.

We hit town around 10:30 and we’re bombarded with VAG enthusiasm from all corners. Although it did get hot later in the day, the weather was perfect. There was no single way to approach the show, but to just jump in and tour.

The Mothership known as VWoA (Volkswagen of America) made a big effort to show their support for SoWo and the fans. For the first time, we got to see the Golf R on display but next to it was a MKVI Golf TDI sitting on 19″ O.Z Ultraleggera’s. The Golf also had a nice paintbrush, flag livery going on.

Some of the top names in aftermarket parts, apparel and tuning showed up to offer their goods.

APR Motorsports, Unitronic and Revo were on hand with power upgrades.

eurowise, Black Forrest Ind., Forge, Air Lift and more were camped out, offering parts and help on taking your dub to the next level.

dubkorps, klutch, coolstickersbro and others kept you clothed and your ride stickered.

Sprinkled in-between all these vendors were the cars! From the expanding air-cooled segment to the newest MKVI’s, it was on display. Audi’s numbers were not that high and we believe the TT had the most shows.

Wheels and stance are all the rage! rotiform has taken the scene by storm but BBS RS and RM’s made a strong showing. Ronals were also present and always killing it. We saw one set of Mercedes Alphard 5-Hole’s and an Audi A4 running huge Bentley Continental GT wheels.

You just can’t bolt wheels on without words like stance, poke, camber and stretch making it into the conversations. You name it, it was on the ground scrapin’ and pokin!

We were really stoked to see a number of VW Rabbit Pickup’s on display. Volkswagen produced these in Pennsylvania from 1979 to 1982. A Good number of Harlequin Edition’s were also present and on point.

One of our favorites was the Air Lifts battleship gray VW Corrado on black Sparco Drift’s.

The “Merchmobile” was present with its contrasting rust against polished Porsche Fuchs. Another standout was T.A.P’s Rabbit GTI racer. We don’t have much info on it but it reminds of the MK1 GTI Series in SHIFT2.

We could go on forever about all the killer rides and people but we’ll let the gallery preach it. If you see a shot of your car or would like to use, hit us up.

Spring is here, though I haven’t actually seen it. Nevertheless, that means that Quattro de Mayo 2011 is right around the corner; May 5th through the 8th! This year, we are headquartered out of the beautiful Brasstown Valley Resort in Hiawassee, Georgia, near Lake Chatuge.

I want to take a moment to personally invite you to this event. While the roads and the cars are, of course, an important part of the event, it’s the people that make Quattro de Mayo so great. Every year, we try our hardest to create a mix of exhilarating driving and social interaction, and this year is no exception.

This year, our schedule consists of 8 routes to choose from:

• A Scavenger Hunt Thursday evening (earn raffle tickets)
• Three routes to choose from Friday morning
• A drive to Helen Friday evening (bratwurst and karting!)
• And three routes to choose from Saturday morning
• We’ve also found over a dozen local, non-driving activites, and will be hosting a banquet, with raffle, Saturday evening.

When you register for Quattro de Mayo 2011, you’ll receive a t-shirt, keychain, sticker, and dinner at the Saturday evening banquet. Can’t make it all four days? No problem.

Highly distinguished jury for the Concours d’Elégance – Public premiere of the Porsche 918 Spyder in Germany

The Second Schloss Bensberg Classics will be taking place from 10 Sept. through 12 Sept. 2010 – a vintage car event sponsored by Volkswagen Group that unites a Rallye Historique and a Concours d’Elégance.

Vehicles in a class of their own are set and ready to go again at the second run of the vintage car event in Bergisch-Gladbach for the Rallye Historique and the Concours d’Elégance. The Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopo was the uncontested star of the Geneva Motor Show in 1971: The prototype designed by Bertone designer Marcello Gandini represented a break with every convention, sporting an extreme V formation, futuristic double wing doors as well as a tube frame and aluminium body hailing from automobile racing. The automobile displayed at the Schloss Bensberg Classics in the “Italian elegance” category is one of the first built in the series that was limited to 157 vehicles.

In contrast, the Volkswagen Cheetah Roadster was built only once and will be running in the “Showcars” category. The design prototype built in 1970, one of a dozen variants, was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The car’s actual realisation was subsequently carried out at Karmann in Osnabrück, based on a shortened chassis of the Volkswagen 1600.

Alongside the classic automobiles, the exhibition at Schloss Bensberg will primarily feature one vehicle, which will cause the hearts of automobile fans everywhere beat quicker, yet only in the future—the new Porsche 918 Spyder super sports car with hybrid drive. The mid-engine sports car constitutes a fascinating concept that unites racing technology and electric mobility. The open two-seater is powered by a high r.p.m. V8 engine with 367 kW (500 PS). Two electric engines at the front and back axle jointly deliver another 160 kW (218 PS). The driving performance of a super sports car—maximum speed of over 320 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds—are counterbalanced by the economy and emission values of a compact: The Porsche 918 Spyder consumes only three litres of petrol every 100 kilometres; the CO2 value adds up to a mere 70 g/km. The design is based on such legendary racing cars as the Porsche 917 Le Mans and currently successful models like the Porsche RS Spyder.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is a pure exhibition vehicle and will not be appraised by the panel of judges—unlike the approximately 40 high-quality classics that are officially participating in the Concours d’Elégance. They will be judged by the nine-member reviewing committee according to the strict rules of the FIVA International Association. The Schloss Bensberg Classics, arranged for the second time, received the highest A rating awarded by FIVA again. The panel of judges for the Concours d’Elégance at the Schloss Bensberg Classics is correspondingly high-calibre: president Walter de’Silva, Sandra Button, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Jacky Ickx, Chris Bangle, Wim Oude Weernink, Eckhard Schimpf, Bernd Ostmann and Jürgen Lewandowski will be passing judgement on the character, aesthetics and authenticity of the cars on exhibit.

Bags, bags and more bags. That looks to be all the rage at this years Waterfest 16. We were hoping to see a bit more neon but it is making a slow appearance. Unfortuantely for us, we were in a different part of the U.S but our good friends over at dubworld were pimpin’ a booth.
