Four 2010 Volkswagen models – the brand-leading Jetta sedan, the all-new Golf four-door, the stylish Passat sedan, and the nimble Tiguan – have each received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2010: The highest rating possible from the non-profit research organization. The annual award recognizes those vehicles that perform best in protecting passengers in the Institute’s front, side, and rear crash test evaluations, and the newly required roof-strength test evaluations. The Institute only tests vehicles with electronic stability control (branded Electronic Stabilization Program® / ESP® on Volkswagen vehicles), and head protection airbags. At the same time, this Polo represented the beginning of a product offensive being conducted today under the ‘BlueMotion-Technologies’ umbrella brand, which is as unique as it is successful. Volkswagen is now presenting the three key high-volume models in its range as newly designed BlueMotion versions: the Polo, Golf and Passat. All three Volkswagens are equipped with an exceedingly innovative high-tech package, yet they are affordable for all car drivers. This package includes new common rail TDI engines, recovery of braking energy by regenerative braking, a Stop-Start system and refined aerodynamic components.
A race car driver’s perspective…
Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to experience things which many can only dream of doing. Though the path has been filled with many risks, trials and a lot of hard work, it’s moments like these when I realize how incredibly fortunate I am.
Over the last 2 years I have been driving race cars for Volkswagen in the Jetta TDI Cup. I was fortunate enough to earn a spot as a driver in the series and then was even more fortunate to be able to win the coveted Public Relations Contest in both years as well.
