Frank Biela, Frank Stippler and Hans-Joachim Stuck missed another podium finish by a mere 0.038 seconds in the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS at the penultimate round of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship. The correct tire choice was crucial due to the unsettled weather conditions at the Nordschleife. Frank Stippler took grooved slicks for the final stint and was almost able to catch the third placed Porsche. The second Phoenix R8 retired following accident three laps before the end of the race.

Christian Mamerow (Castrop-Rauxel) and Dirk Werner (Kissenbrück) celebrated at the 41st ADAC Barbarossapreis the second win of the season for Mamerow racing. The duo went into the eighth marked by tension over the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship a lead of 55.585 seconds to Marcel Tiemann (Monaco), Romain Dumas (Switzerland) and Arno Klasen (Karlshausen) in a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR by Manthey Racing. Hans-Joachim Stuck (Austria), Frank Biela (Monaco) and Marc Basseng (Leutenbach) rounded out the Audi R8 LMS Phoenix-Racing the podium. Jorg Muller and Augusto Farfus (both Monaco) completed the European premiere of the BMW M3 GT2 at number four, and celebrated while the first tour miles in densely occupied starting field of sport’s most popular series in Europe.

Does the R8 LMS look good in every livery?Audi youngster Oliver Jarvis made a strong impression on his debut around infamous Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The 25 year old Briton crossed the finish line third at the wheel of the Phoenix team’s Audi R8 LMS in the seventh round of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship. Jarvis was, however, subsequently awarded a one-lap penalty due to overtaking under yellow flags. As a result the DTM driver and his team mates Nicki Thiim and Dennis Rostek dropped to eleventh position overall. The second Phoenix-R8 was involved in a collision during the opening stages of the race and finished 13 after a comeback drive through the field.

At the 6-hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the season’s highlight of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship, Team Phoenix Racing won the GT3 class (SP9) with the Audi R8 LMS. Marc Basseng, Frank Biela, Frank Stippler and Hans-Joachim Stuck secured second place overall in the field of 188 cars.

Victory in the class for two-liter turbocharged cars and victory in the class for cars with alternative fuels: At the third round of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife Volkswagen staged a successful dress rehearsal for the 24-hour race (21 – 24 May) in the legendary ‘Green Hell’.

The car is so new and they are already scoring podiums not only in the FIA GT3 series but now at the ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup (VLN) yesterday. If you don’t see it, I’d say Audi is gearing up for two overall wins in two of the hardest 24 Hour races in the world; The 24 Heures du Mans and the 24 Hours Nurburgring.
The Phoenix Racing car driven by Marc Basseng, Marcel Fässler, Mike Rockenfeller and Frank Stippler placed second in the 4 hour race. Abt Sportline followed in third place with Christian Abt, Jean Francois Hemroulle, Pierre Kaffer and Lucas Luhr.
Fortunately, it was Manthey Racing, in their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that took top honors.
The season opener of the BFGoodrich Long Distance Championship Nürburgring had no wish unfulfilled. In sunny spring weather experienced viewers around the Nürburgring Nordschleife an eventful race. After hours were 4:01:01014 Marcel Tiemann (Monaco) and Timo Bernhard (Dittweiler) in the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR by Manthey Racing won abgewinkt. The advantage to the runner-Christian Mamerow (Castrol-Rauxel) and Lance-David Arnold (Duisburg) in the Porsche GT3, Cup S ‘was 1:03348 minutes. His motorsport debut graduated professional cyclist Jan Ullrich (Switzerland) at the 56th ADAC Westfalen ride. After a cooler damage to the BMW 335d in the early stages of the race and subsequent repair break the rookie took advantage of the remaining time to share experiences on the North Loop to collect. “Man, I would be incredibly happy there”, said Ullrich after the race. “This is really a giant fun.”
