We are a bit behind on some news this weekend but this is why. We are dropping in a NewSouth Performance PowerGasket™ along with checking the thermostat and waterpump at 60k. We will have a how-to write up soon.

1.8T Manifold is out of the way.
PowerGasket™ gives you up to 5% more power from your engine by reducing the temperature of the incoming air to your engine.
If you are running an after market exhaust w/ a high-flow cat and are constantly getting that dreaded CEL, this part should fix it. It comes down to spacing your 02 sensor out of the direct airflow.???????? ????? ????????
2 Faults Found:
- 16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
- 16795 - Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected
P0411 - 35-00 - -
Car:
2000 1.8T New Beetle GLX running a GHL 2.5″ TB exhaust and GIAC software.
The steps should be identical to all MKIV’s. Placement of your sensors may vary based on your exhuats, but probably not.
Finally got around to installing replacement bushings on the rear engine mount. A few weeks ago I was completing an oil change and I always use this time to inspect the car underneath. Well I noticed two bushings bulging out a bit. I pulled apart the mount and low and behold, they were ripped/split. I sent an email to VF-Engineering, purchased a kit of 4.
Bad pic from phone
I had a strong drive into work this morning and it had smoothed out a ton. Overtime, as they ripped, I got used to the vibration becoming more pronounced. A lot of people complain about the vibrations right off the bat, which I found not to be true. The reason for this is that the silicone bushings are stiffer than that of the OEM ones. This directs your engines power to the wheels as well as the body.
Wither way, the cars feels better now!

Wonderful. I got a nail in my Toyo Proxes 4’s. I purchased them through Kauffman Tire so I have lifetime this and that
This also allowed me to rotate em since I haven’t had it done in a long time. Turns out roughly 9k.. so I’m only 3k over.
Mileage: 51,498

I have an email out to these guys… if it’s the same JRD I’m thinking of they are 40mins from me. I will be swinging by with my Beetle. Maybe they need a test vehicle!
JRD Tuning is planning an impressive set of upgrades for the Volkswagen Beetle that will push it to either 250 or 385 horsepower. The latter configuration is made possible by the HPA R32 3.2 liter V6 with twin turbochargers.
The chassis, brakes, wheels, and tires are also upgraded for more spirited driving. Options include a glass roof section and a folding spoiler.
Standard front-wheel-drive or Audi Quattro will be offered. The exterior design was created by Bo Zolland of Sweden.

As of 9/01 my New Beetle is paid off. Even though I purchased it used it still was $15,500. Compared to my last car, a 90′ Jetta GL that I paid $3000.00 cash for, this is a big deal!
This also means all of our cars, a 1965 Buick Skylark, 98′ Honda CR-V and a 00′ VW New Beetle are all paid off. WE HAVE NO CAR PAYMENTS!
08/2002:

Today:

After listening to the emails and phone calls from NB 1.8T and TDI owners for quite some time, we are finally done with development of the TyrolSport UG SMIC for the NB. In order to better gauge our initial production run, we are starting an Introductory Group Buy.
Regular retail price on the SMIC will be $789 + $20 shipping.
Group Buy price will be $749 + $20 shipping.
Please let us know how many of you are willing to commit your payment and shipping information at this time so that we may begin production. Thanks to all!

Instead of those nasty google adsense ads placed on the sidebar and inbetween post, I figured I’d devote a seperate page to ads.
The page will hold products I have personally used or know that these products do work. They will all be within the automotive market and focus on VW, Audi and Porsche. What did you think, Honda?
So if your in the need for oil, tools etc check out the new Performance Store page. It’s really maintenance products but eventually I will ad shops. I think I will also put GB’s (Group Buys) from vwvortex as well.
If you have any suggestion’s or ideas let me know!
Final test fitting is being done. Hopefully it will be complete and onsale before winter!

Went on a small hunt today for some of the elusive GC. This is specifically made in Germany and it will state that on the back.
I have been using the Mobil 1 0W-40 and overall have been happy but the 1.8T has been sounding a bit rough. The engine calls for a 5W-30, so I will feel a bit better now. I will also do my first UOA on the M1 0W-40 as soon as my kit comes. It will be premature as my commute is 8m one way.
Why?
- GC is a TRUE synthetic. Made from PAO/Esters, not Group III.
- Produces great UOA results.
- Engines run quieter and smoother. (OK, that may be an opinion.)
- At cold temps, the 0w weight correlates to cold cranking viscosity. That means GC will still flow at cold temps. (Which is a good thing!)
- At operating temps, the 30 weight is actually close to a 40 weight. GC is one of the thickest 30 weight oils around.
