24H Dubai 2008: Creventic CR-8 - results

Sucks (software update) but when your the first to build a car, it doesn’t matter. Good job everyone at Creventic!

24hdubai_cr-8.jpg

Unfortunately the Audi CR-8 is in the pit box. Cor Euser had a good stint:”The balance of the car was perfect, I could drive very constantly, without any problem. Unfortunately at the tank stop I stalled the engine, but after refuelling I could not restart the engine again. Due to the electronics, the gearbox was locked in first gear.”

In the meantime the car has been pushed back to the pits. The team found out that they missed an important software update for the gearbox, which would have avoided this problem.
At the moment someone from Audi Dubai is on the way with a tester to see if the problem can be solved. Every team would like to see the goodlooking CR-8 back on the track.

vwf3_Mailleux_Plowman.jpg

Volkswagen has strengthened its 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series squad with the addition of two fast “stars of tomorrow”: Franck Mailleux from France and Briton Martin Plowman compete in the leading “star of tomorrow” formula with Volkswagen engines.

The two drivers completed their first tests at the end of 2007. The 22-year old Mailleux completes the Signature line up, and 20-year old Plowman starts for RC Motorsport. As a result, five of the eight Volkswagen powered Dallara chassis’ are filled. The season opener in the hard-fought Pan-European championship is held on 12/13 April together with the DTM at Hockenheim.

The two young talents were welcomed to the team by Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. “Whoever wants to be successful in Formula 3 must bring a strong package to the grid: Team, driver, chassis and engine must be first class and fit perfectly together. Martin Plowman and Franck Mailleux are a genuine boost for our squad in the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series.” Preparations and Volkswagen Motorsport are in full swing. “The evolution version of our two-litre engine has shown great promise on the dyno. We’ll start our circuit test programme shortly.” The 210 hp Formula 3 power plant made a promising debut in 2007.”

Franck Mailleux also has previous experience in the Formula 3 Euro Series: He celebrated one win and claimed two further podium finishes in 2007 his debut season. “Formula 3 is the best proving ground for young talent on the way to Formula 1. The demands made of drivers, teams and manufacturers are enormous. Perfect teamwork during development and at the track is decisive for success,” knows Mailleux, who is currently studying economics in England. “I’m really looking forward to the new season and working with Volkswagen and Signature.” The Monegasque Stefano Coletti, Italian Eduardo Mortara and the Frenchman Jean Karl Vernay will compete alongside Franck Mailleux for Philippe Sinault’s French team.

Martin Plowman from Tamworth (GB) will be a genuine debutant in the Formula 3 Euro Series. “Plowey” last raced in Formula Renault after years of successful karting. “Moving up to Formula 3 Euro Series is a very important step for me and I can hardly wait for the season to start,” says the jockey like Englishman. “The standard in the Euro Series is very high; teams and driver are absolutely professionals. I’ll have to learn very quickly as the engineers, circuits and car are new to me. The cooperation with Volkswagen is a golden opportunity for me.”

Audi not interested in the Formula 1

Ok. This makes it two official statements! Let us stop the rumors and thank both Volkswagen and Audi for their decisions! We love F1 (sometimes) but it is no place for Volkswagen and Audi. There are bigger fish to fry!

Lets hear your thoughts!

After no Volkswagen granted now VW subsidiary Audi the pinnacle of motor sport a clear rejection

Wolfgang UllrichAlthough the maximum number of twelve teams by the provisional rejection of Prodrive short term is not fully exploited, holds the interest of manufacturers in the new Formula 1 seems limited. After the Volkswagen Group has also now is the VW subsidiary Audi King class to a clear rejection.

“Formula 1 is not a subject that we discussed,” stated Audi sports chief Wolfgang Ullrich in an interview with the ‘EUROSPORT Motor Magazine’. “We have a motor sports program defined, with the product and marketing side well covered. We can expand the technology transfer from the motor sports for the series much better than the Formula 1″

The Ingolstadt invest their budget in 2008 instead, the largest motor sports program in the company’s history: For existing touring car programme in the DTM is an advanced sports car program with the 24 hours of Le Mans, the ALMS and for the first time, the LMS.

Already a few days ago had VW adviser Hans-Joachim Stuck, the king class to a rejection: “The Formula 1, the Group is not an issue at the moment and I would also at this moment is not really recommended because the regulations simply lacks stability,” said The former Formula 1 pilot.

Safety has priority: Volkswagen respects “Dakar” cancellation

logo_dakar_2008_150.gif We had a feeling this was going to happen. Here at oneighturbo.com, the mood is “angry”. Not at the ASO, Dakar, Volkswagen or any other competitors.. one word.. terrorist!! You guys completely suck!

Now we understand your point of views, religion etc. but stay the %&^# away! Get a life. Play with yourselves. Buy an XBOX360 and play COD. See how good you are then.

Do you not realize this is getting old. Boring. Look at the bigger picture. Get a book about the Universe. Look back at Earth and realize how small you and everyone else is. Understand that there’s way more out there than you could imagine. Jump on the “green” wagon and do good. Plant some trees. Make some biodiesel. Buy a Volkswagen, Audi or Porsche SUV and drive it fast over your land. Enjoy the speed. Find ways to support your people rather than blow em up!

Leave the Dakar alone! A good amount of us look forward to this every winter!

Jump in and let the terrorist know how you feel in the comments.

It is with great regret that Volkswagen acknowledges the cancellation of the 30th Dakar Rally. “The safety of every single participant has absolute priority and for this reason Volkswagen completely and utterly endorses the decision made by the organisers ASO to cancel the start of the Dakar Rally originally scheduled for 5 January,” explains Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member with responsibility for Technical Development at Volkswagen. “We are obviously very unhappy about the cancellation, since we prepared for this rally for an entire year and were extremely well equipped for this sporting challenge.”

Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen underlines: “We fully respect the decision for safety purposes, which also have absolute priority for us. The cancellation is a great disappointment for every member of the Volkswagen Motorsport team, particularly as everybody was looking forward to starting this peaceful and fair sporting competition.”

At midday on Friday, 4 January 2008 the “Dakar” organisers ASO officially announced that the rally will be not be held due to the significant safety concerns voiced by the French Government regarding the stages in Mauritania. The start of the 30th Dakar Rally was scheduled for 5 January 2008 in Lisbon. The “Dakar” should have finished, as is tradition, after 15 stages and approximately 9,300 kilometres in the Senegalese capital city on 20 January.

Despite Stuck: Volkswagen says no to Formula 1

Although Hans-Joachim Stuck as a consultant, newly arrived aboard, Volkswagen will continue with its no to the Formula 1

071221.jpgFor years denied the Volkswagen Group repeatedly any rumors about a possible Formula 1 entry, but just as insistent as the speculation in Wolfsburg into the realm of fantasy and deported, they appear in the media repeatedly. That was also the case, of course, as an ex-Grand Prix-pilot Hans-Joachim Stuck at the end of 2007 as a consultant was committed.

Stuck in the Formula 1 circus as’ Premiere’ and ‘motorsport Total.com’ expert, as well as ambassadors from BMW in recent years, frequent and always a welcome companion would have the necessary contacts to work with the financial funded by the VW group a powerful force together - for example, the VW-Audi brand, but they still prefer to Le Mans and the cheaper sports car scene is concentrated.

Whoever loses the least amount of time, through navigation errors or by getting bogged down in sand for example, will finish at the front after 9,000 kilometres. “Every team member must do a perfect job for two weeks to achieve this,” explains Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. With four Race Touareg prototypes fitted with 280 hp TDI-Diesel engines and driven by Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn (Spain/France), Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (South Africa/Germany), Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/South Africa) and Dieter Depping/Timo Gottschalk (both Germany), the Wolfsburg based automobile manufacturer targets the first victory for a vehicle with diesel power.

“This ‘Dakar’ will be very hard”

A huge challenge awaits Giniel de Villiers (South Africa) and his German co-driver Dirk von Zitzewitz: Fifteen stages over 9,200 kilometres – including 5,736 stage kilometres – make up the 30th running of the Dakar Rally.

Volkswagen Motorsport

‘I’m looking forward to every single day of the rally, and especially the long stages in Africa,’ explains von Zitzewitz, who feverishly awaits the approaching start on 5 January in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

‘The organisers have put together a very demanding route for the Dakar Rally’s 30th anniversary,’ explains Giniel de Villiers, who finished second in 2006 with a Volkswagen Race Touareg and in doing so recorded the best ever position for a diesel vehicle in the desert classic. ‘With around 5,700 stage kilometres the length of the competition is considerably longer than in previous years. Also, with eight stages the percentage of the route in Mauritania is very high, and, as a rule, the toughest stages with huge amounts of sand are encountered there.’

Dakar route unchanged despite threats

This is really getting old..

The Lisbon-Dakar Rally will follow its planned route through Mauritania despite two deadly attacks, one of them claimed as an Al Qaeda raid, a senior event official said.

An unauthenticated audio recording broadcast by Al Arabiya television said Al Qaeda’s North African wing - Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb - had killed four Mauritanian soldiers in the remote north of the country late on Wednesday.

The attack came after gunmen shot dead four French tourists in Mauritania on Monday, which officials have said may have been carried out by Islamic militants.

The attacks raised fears that Al Qaeda-linked militants who have carried out attacks in Algeria and Morocco may be seeking to extend operations southwards to Mauritania, Mali and Senegal, where the rally is due to finish on January 20th.

Roger Kalmanovitz, the rally’s head of security, has been in the country meeting military, police and government officials and said the January 5-20 event would go ahead as planned.

‘We are satisfied and the rally will indeed start in Lisbon on January 5th and arrive on Mauritanian soil on January 11th,’ he told reporters in the capital Nouakchott.

Last year, organisers of the 9,000km (5,600 miles) race cancelled two stages after France’s security services said rally participants risked being kidnapped or ambushed by Algerian rebels while passing through Mali.”
