In GA, NC Long Lines At Gas Pump Are Flashback To 70s - The Car Connection

We just posted a few pieces on our gas shortage and why you need to use premium if your car calls for it. Here is a follow up we just read over on The Car Connection. As Colin Mathews put it “Could this Southeast phenomenon be a chilling harbinger of energy crises yet to come?

Georgia and North Carolina commuters are being forced to telecommute, take public transit, carpool, or wait in 15+ minute lines due to the most significant fuel shortages since Presidents Carter and Nixon. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration and the American Petroleum Institute, by way of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, hurricanes Gustav and Ike bear the main responsibility.

Why the need for premium gas?

Our Project New Beetle’s heart is the 1.8T engine from Volkswagen/Audi. If your reading this and do not know what this means, it’s a turbo-charged 1.8L engine. It started life at 150hp and now sees around 210hp. In stock form it requires premium grade gas at 91 RON. It has been chipped (GIAC USA) which is written for 91-93 RON.

Do yourself, your engine and wallet a favor, fill your tank with the rating it requires. If you purchased a high performance car requiring a 91 RON or higher, don’t try to save pennies/gal cause in the end it just may cost you more!

Also, please maintain your car. Check/replace air filter, tires inflated and fix CEL (Check Engine Lights). Example: your O2 Sensor is out which measures your air/fuel mixture. A bad one will result in poor gas mileage!

Why the need for premium gas?

The octane rating is a measure of the resistance of gasoline and other fuels to detonation (engine knocking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines. High-performance engines typically have higher compression ratios and are therefore more prone to detonation, so they require higher octane fuel. A lower-performance engine will not generally perform better with high-octane fuel, since the compression ratio is fixed by the engine design. - wikipedia Continue reading ‘Why the need for premium gas?’

Atlanta’s gas shortage

The Southeast is seeing a huge hit in gas shortages these days. We are out of Atlanta and it seems as if there is completely no gas of any grade. If you do find regular, 87 RON, huge lines are forming and some are waiting in them for an 1hr or more.

Our internet moves faster!

Atlantans rely on two major pipelines, Colonial and Plantation, to pump fuel from the Gulf of Mexico. Moving at about 3 mph to 5 mph, it can take up to 10 days for gas to travel from Houston to Atlanta. The metro area began to feel the pinch of short supplies about two weeks after Gustav struck, which is about the time Ike came ashore.  Continue reading ‘Atlanta’s gas shortage’

Jetta TDI Cup: Michael DeNino and oneighturbo.com partner

Today we debut our new logo and partnership at Round 5 of the Jetta TDI Cup Series from Iowa Speedway.

Jetta TDI Cup: Michael DeNino and oneighturbo.com partner

Since the start of oneighturbo.com it has gone from an idea to promote the Volkswagen New Beetle to one of the leading sites for the Volkswagen Group, its brands and Porsche. We’ve then moved into split of manufacture news and motorsport yet staying true to these brands.

Jetta TDI Cup: Michael DeNino and oneighturbo.com partner

When the Jetta TDI Cup Series was announced we were ecstatic! Finally Volkswagen has brought back a series to America after canceling the New Beetle Cup.

It has been a dream to have oneighturbo.com sponsor a Michael DeNino in the #36 Jetta TDI Cup car.

Jetta TDI Cup: VW DriverGear Motorsport section launched

We were chatting with our good friend, Michael DeNino (Jetta TDI Cup racer #36) today and he pointed us to the new Volkswagen Motorsport section over at VW DriverGear.

Good, Clean, Racing t-shirt & the rain/event poncho

It does have a good selection of stuff, however it could be a bit stronger! The Good, Clean, Racing t-shirt is pretty nice. I guess we just wanted more “race” like apparel.

There is a great Driver “tour” t-shirt with the names of the drivers listed on the back but it’s white and lame… Sorry guys!

We love the poncho and if you head to the races, you know its good to have one of these!

We had some fun poking around the whole site and had an idea to put together a Race Event Travel Kit!
