Title win for Volkswagen driver Antonin Blazek

Antonin Blazek won the final race of the Czech Circuit Racing Championship at Brno in the class up to 1,400 cc.

The 18-year-old, who competes for the Charouz Racing System team, thus also won the title in the first season of the 195-hp Polo in the Czech Republic.

Volkswagen intensively prepared for the 2009 Dakar Rally with two weeks of testing in Morocco.

The main focus during the endurance and component tests conducted in the desert region around Erfoud between 18 and 29 August was on the technical evolution of the Race Touareg 2 “Dakar” prototype and on adapting it to the new terrain in South America. For the first time the classic “Dakar” will lead through Argentina and Chile from 03 to 18 January 2009. Following the test in Morocco Volkswagen will field three of the 280-hp diesel-powered vehicles in the second round of the Dakar Series in Portugal from 10 to 14 September to assess its performance capabilities yet again. Volkswagen had won the first round of the Dakar Series through Hungary and Romania at the end of April as well as the Rallye dos Sertões through Brazil in June. Wow. Hamburg slot car racing series and Volkswagen Motorsport staged the 7th round. Great stuff and we want that New Beetle in the pic! However a Subaru Impreza WRC does lead the in points.

We were chatting with our good friend, Michael DeNino (Jetta TDI Cup racer #36) today and he pointed us to the new Volkswagen Motorsport section over at VW DriverGear.

It does have a good selection of stuff, however it could be a bit stronger! The Good, Clean, Racing t-shirt is pretty nice. I guess we just wanted more “race” like apparel.

There is a great Driver “tour” t-shirt with the names of the drivers listed on the back but it’s white and lame… Sorry guys!

We love the poncho and if you head to the races, you know its good to have one of these!

We had some fun poking around the whole site and had an idea to put together a Race Event Travel Kit!

CCRC: Victory for Volkswagen Polo

After a successful début of the Volkswagen Polo at the Czech Circuit Racing Championship at Brno Antonin Blazek clinched victory in the class up to 1.4 litres of cubic capacity at Poznan (PL) as well.

The 18-year-old Czech driver in his 195-hp Polo fielded by Charouz Racing System saw the chequered flag more than half a minute earlier than his closest rival.

Sand and mud instead of hot tarmac: Audi driver Martin Tomczyk swapped his Audi A4 DTM for a Volkswagen Race Touareg from the Dakar Rally for the first time. After brief instructions from Volkswagen factory driver Dieter Depping Martin Tomczyk bravely put the pedal to the metal at an offroad area near the Nürburgring.

“It’s incredible how fast the Race Touareg can be driven in rough terrain. At the wheel you immediately feel that you’re sitting in a thorough-bred rally vehicle,” marvelled the DTM star from Rosenheim, Bavaria. “The test drive was huge fun and I’m already looking forward to the next opportunity.” Martin Tomczyk will have it on 16 August: At the Red Bull X-Fighters freestyle motocross competition in Wuppertal he will pilot the 280-hp rally prototype again.

By fielding three Race Touareg vehicles, Volkswagen is tackling another new challenge in cross-country rally racing while preparing for the 2009 Dakar Rally: The second rally of the Dakar series, which will lead through Portugal from 09 to 14 September, will be contested by the factory duos of Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn (E/F), Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (RSA/D) and Dieter Depping/Timo Gottschalk (D/D) with the diesel prototype that has already been victorious twice in 2008.
