SPEED World-Challenge LIVE qualifying

That didn’t last long! Right from go the No. 06 car started smoking and then stopped on the front straight with a fire. Oil was left all over. In the end qualifying was stopped and will be based off of the combined practice times.

With that said, it leaves Brandon Davis / Ford Mustang Cobra on pole. Does that suck or what! To follow that up, Randy Pobst / Porsche 911 GT3 put the K-Pax Racing into 2nd! Michael Galati, in his K-Pax Porsche took 7th.

The SPEED Touring Car race will go green at 11:05 a.m. (EDT) tomorrow, March 14.

The SPEED GT race will go green at 4:40 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow.

SPEED GT qualifying is scheduled to begin at 11:50 a.m. (EDT). Weather is 72F and sunny in Sebring. The SPEED GT qualifying lap record at Sebring is a 2:07.679, set last year by Doug Peterson. Brandon Davis was fastest in yesterday’s practice, turning a 2:10.382.

We don’t have official word from STaSIS but it doesn’t look like they are competing in the Touring Class this year. Qualifying for TC has finished up with Seth Thomas taking his first pole. No. 43 Kleinubing will start second. No. 44 Wittmer and No. 42 Cunningham will complete the second row on the grid.

Getting under way shortly will be the GT class. There is a good number of Porsche’s this year, so we will be keeping an eye on them to dominate!

One VW out, one in at Laguna Seca

I was just checking out the qualifying images from Speed World Challenge Touring Car results and saw that Christian Miller’s Volkswagen Jetta back in the game! However, I did not see Jim Osborn’s VW Jetta TDI!

Christian Miller / 034 Motorsports placed 19th with a 1:38.174 to Pobst’s 1:35:857.

Pobst Goes Two-For-Two With SPEED GT Pole in Monterey

Excellent work from Randy! I finally met him and had a good conversation with at Road Atlanta. Class act and a great year for him in both World Challenge entries! Here’s to 2008 and maybe back in the Audi’s ;)

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2007) - Current Championship leader Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., captured the pole for Round Ten of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Championship minutes after collecting the SCCA SPEED Touring Car Pole at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton, Fla., will start second.

Preventing a Cadillac clinch of the SCCA SPEED GT Manufacturers’ Championship Presented by RACER and giving himself another five points in his Drivers” Championship lead, Pobst recovered from a first lap slide to put the No. 22 K-PAX Racing LLC/Jim Haughey Porsche 911 GT-3 on pole. Just after getting out of his pole-winning Mazda SCCA SPEED Touring Car, Pobst collected his 22nd-career pole with a lap of 1:29.707 (89.812 mph) around the 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course. He now needs to finish third or better to win the 2007 Drivers’ Championship, regardless of what his rivals do.

Herr Tops Morning Practice at SPEED Touring Car Finale

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2007) - Chip Herr, of Lititz, Pa., topped the time sheets in morning practice for Round Ten of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship. Peter Cunningham, of Grafton, Wis., and Brandon Davis, of Denver, Colo., were second and third fastest, respectively, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Chip Herr was the fastest SCCA SPEED Touring Car in morning practice at Laguna Seca (Weber image). Chip Herr was the fastest SCCA SPEED Touring Car in morning practice at Laguna Seca (Weber image).

Herr hit the top of the timing monitors early and continued to whittle down his time throughout the 20-minute practice session. By the end, a 1:35.929 was the (83.987 mph) was good enough to keep the No. 17 STaSIS/Clear Capital/Nalley Audi A4 on top.

“We made some really great changes,” Herr said. “We put a stiffer bar on the car that we’ve never used before. Yesterday, I tested it and today I think we proved it”s going to work for qualifying at least.

“We haven’t historically done well here. I finished fifth here last year and I qualified 10th. I don’t know if I’ll be able to pass a bunch of cars again on the start like I did last year. There’s a lot of people here battling for Championships so it’s going to be tough. I don’t want to be in the midst of it, but I’m going to be there.”

Four-time World Challenge Champion Cunningham ended the session second fastest in his No. 42 Acura Certified Pre-Owned/RealTime Racing Acura TSX. The winningest driver in series history entered a time of 1:36.450 (83.533 mph). Teammate Davis in the No. 43 Acura Certified Pre-Owned/RealTime Racing Acura TSX completed the top three with a time of 1:36.478 (83.509 mph).

Currently second in the Drivers’ Champion, Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., was fourth on the time sheets, turning a 1:36.538 (83.457 mph) in his No. 73 MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development MAZDA6. Defending SCCA SPEED Touring Car Champion Pierre Kleinubing, of Coconut Creek, Fla., made it three Acuras in the top five, clocking a 1:36.804 (83.228 mph) in his No. 1 Acura Certified Pre-Owned/Real Time Racing Acura TSX.

Driving last year’s race-winning car, Kuno Wittmer (Acura RSX) was sixth, followed by Ian Baas (Audi A4), Nick Esayian (Acura TSX), Jeff Altenburg (MAZDA6) and Charles Espenlaub (MAZDA6).

The second SCCA SPEED Touring Car practice session is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. (PDT).

Chili Pepper Team Making Hearts Race at Road Atlanta

We are big fans of Chili Pepper Racing and Jim Osborn efforts! Support ‘em if you can!

As is tradition when SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge heads to Road Atlanta, Chili Pepper Racing will host a variety of activities during the Petit Le Mans weekend in support of several pediatric cancer charities.

For Jim Osborn and Chili Pepper Racing, Petit Le Mans is all about the kids (Osborn image).

The team will welcome roughly 300 guests to their VIP hospitality area, including families from the Atlanta Scottish Rite/AFLAC Cancer Treatment Center and Children’s Hospital, the Light House Foundation and Austin Hatcher Foundation. The races will serve as a diversionary therapy for the children and families who will get a break from the day-to-day struggles that come with pediatric cancer and be able to enjoy the races from a chalet above pit lane with the perks of a 50-inch TV and gourmet food provided by the Flower Branch Yacht Club. Families will also have the opportunity to participate in flag ceremonies and pace car rides.

One child in particular will serve a very special role at the Petit Le Mans weekend. SCCA Pro Racing has named seven year-old cancer survivor Maddie as Grand Marshal for the SCCA SPEED Touring Car race. Maddie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May of 2003, but underwent her last round of Chemotherapy in 2005 and has been cancer-free ever since. Maddie attended her first SCCA SPEED World Challenge race as a guest of Chili Pepper Racing shortly after her last Chemo and has returned to Road Atlanta for the SCCA SPEED World Challenge races every year since.

Throughout the weekend, raffle tickets will be sold to win a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R750 and two-day Kevin Schwantz Suzuki School. Tickets cost $25.00 and can be purchased at the Vendor Village or the Chili Pepper Racing support paddock. Only 1,000 will be sold.

The winner will be drawn just before the Fourth Annual Post Petit Le Mans Motorcycle Charity Ride on Sunday, October 7. The ride begins with a lap around Road Atlanta, then winds through the scenic mountain highways of Northern Georgia. Participants will be riding with some of their favorite SCCA SPEED World Challenge, ALMS and Grand-Am racing personalities.

All proceeds raised through the week”s events will go toward the Austin Hatcher Foundation and Lighthouse Family Foundation. Last year’s event raised a record $34,000.

Pecorari Takes Mosport For Maiden SPEED Touring Car Win

We were at the skatepark today during this race so I cannot elaborate on anything here. All I know is an Audi 1-2 is great in my book. I’m not sure what happened to Ian Bass but he did stay in the top 10 with an 8th place finish.

Today’s race will be broadcast on SPEED Channel Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. (EDT). The series next travels to Road Atlanta as part of the Petit Le Mans, Oct. 3-6.

Adam Pecorari leads the field at Mosport. Weber Image.

CANADA (Aug. 26, 2007) - Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., led all but the first lap from the pole to take his first-career SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car win at Mosport International Raceway, part of the Mobil 1 Presents the Grand Prix of Mosport. Teammate Chip Herr, of Lititz, Pa., was second, followed by Pierre Kleinubing, of Coconut Creek, Fla.

Driving the No. 19 STaSIS/Clear Capital/Pfaff Audi A4, Pecorari slipped past fellow front row starter Herr in turn 10 on the second lap and never looked back, taking a 0.219-second win under caution, averaging 86.251 mph.

“This is amazing, because there are so many fast drivers in these series,” Pecorari said. “We were quick at Mid-Ohio, but couldn’t back it up in qualifying and the race. This weekend we started off quick as well. The car has been amazing all weekend, all three of our cars were great. I just did my job and there wasn”t too much I could have messed up.

STaSIS Audi One-Two-Three at Mosport for Maiden SPEED TC Pole

CANADA (Aug. 25, 2007) - Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., claimed his first SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car pole today, leading a STaSIS Audi one-two-three in damp conditions at Mosport International Raceway, part of the Mobil 1 Presents the Grand Prix of Mosport. Defending race winner Chip Herr, of Lititz, Pa., will start second.

Driving the No. 19 STaSIS/Clear Capital/Pfaff Audi A4, Pecorari changed from wet to dry tires after a red flag stopped the session early to remove a car from the turn five gravel. After the session resumed, he clicked off a number of fast laps, finally taking the pole with a time of 1:37.769 (90.544 mph) around the 2.459-mile (3.957-km), 10-turn circuit.
