Wow, what an end to a season. After getting stomped by the Peugeot’s at all circuits, Audi come away with the wins!
After the triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the early title win in the American Le Mans Series, AUDI AG performed another feat with the Audi R10 TDI diesel sportscar: At the 1000-kilometre race at Silverstone (Great Britain), Audi Sport Team Joest – clinching victory as well as fourth place – secured also the champion’s title in the European Le Mans Series (LMS). Le Mans Series, round 5 in Silverstone, Great Britain
The final LMP2 race in the Le Mans Series was spectacular! Such a great spread of manufacturers, al of which could win at any moment. The Van Merksteijn Motorsport team was only off the lead by -4 laps.
It was a season final made to measure: The gripping last race of the Le Mans Series (LMS) in Silverstone ended with a double victory for the Porsche RS Spyder in the LMP2 class. Jos Verstappen and Peter van Merksteijn (Netherlands) claimed the fourth win of the season for the Van Merksteijn Motorsport team on the British Grand Prix circuit. Second in the 476 hp sports prototype from Weissach went to Fredy Lienhard (Switzerland), Jan Lammers (Netherlands) and Didier Theys (Belgium) of the Swiss Horag Racing squad. The Danish Essex pilots John Nielsen and Casper Elgaard secured sixth after a sensational charge through the field. With this result, the RS Spyder teams, Van Merksteijn, Essex and Horag occupy positions one, two and three in the LMP2 team championship – and Porsche ranks a clear first in the manufacturers’ classification. There was also good reason to celebrate in the near-standard GT2 class. Claiming second at the final race, Marc Lieb (Germany) and Alex Davison (Australia) secured vice-championship honours. Audi and Peugeot together in the gravel!
As the safety car was just out of the track, the Audi n°1 (Capello/McNish) and the Peugeot n°8 (Sarrazin/Lamy) had a crash and joined together the gravel!
Both have started again, but we still dont know what the consequences will be of this without precedent scratch! Continue reading ‘Le Mans Series LIVE from Silverstone’
The final race of the 2008 Le Mans Series will be a huge one for Audi. Since the start Peugeot has dominated the Audi R10 TDI’s. Yet, at the same time Audi has kept up in the points. We think the overall title is more important to Audi than power + speed. 2pts behind in Driver Champ’s and 6pts behind in Manufacturer Champ’s.
Audi competes in a second race in Great Britain only 14 days after Timo Scheider’s victory at Brands Hatch in the Audi A4 DTM: The finale of the European based Le Mans Series (LMS) is held on 14 September at Silverstone where Audi Sport Team Joest still has chances of winning the title. Le Mans Series, round 4 on the Nürburgring, Preview
It is kinda odd that both both Audi and Porsche will be racing their prototypes in Germany for the first time.
After securing wins in Spain, Italy and Belgium, the Porsche RS Spyder now races on home ground for the first time. At the fourth of five rounds of the European Le Mans Series (LMS) three of the 476 hp sports prototypes, developed and built in Weissach, take up the race for LMP2 class honours from 15th to 17th August on the Nürburgring. The RS Spyder, fielded by Porsche customer teams Van Merksteijn Motorsport (Netherlands), Essex (Denmark) and Horag Racing (Switzerland), rekindle memories of Porsche’s great tradition on the Eifel track. Fascinating motorsport is guaranteed at the 1,000 kilometre race – alone considering the entry list of almost 50 race cars on the 5.148 kilometre Grand Prix circuit. Porsche is also represented in the GT2 class for near-standard sports cars with six 911 GT3 RSR vehicles. Continue reading ‘Porsche RS Spyder makes race debut in Germany’
