It was such a great race this morning from Barcelona. Pure excitement from start to finish. Bernd Scneider held pole for about a second before being past by Timo Scheider and Paul di Resta. Scheider was leading for good bit but seemed to be a bit down on speed compared to di Resta. He did pass Timo with contact but Timo was smart enough to back off.
With a cleverly clinched second place, Audi driver Timo Scheider defended his overall DTM lead at Barcelona. Before the last two rounds, the 29-year-old German has a seven-point advantage over the Scot Paul di Resta (Mercedes) and thus the chance of securing the champion’s title early at the next race at Le Mans on 5 October. I’m not even sure how to start this… We were streaming the race but missed the first 10 laps due to coverage of the Tour De France. We didn’t have the live ticker opened but upon catching up I thought it was a mistake. The top 8 or so were all AMG. WTF!!!! I said!

Tom Kristensen lands in the kitty litter
How could a meteorologist get it wrong but first, how could Audi! We see it time and time again in racing but tire choice is huge when it comes to weather. I won’t go into it as you can read on but highly disappointing in the end.
A few more surprises, Tom Kristensen takes poll and then DNF’s. Rockenfeller who was second on poll, dropped to 15th and 1 lap down. De Riesta had a 22sec lead over 2nd pace Bernd Scnieder who then wins. Schumacher scores a point.
With a fifth-place finish Audi driver Timo Scheider defended his overall lead in the DTM. However, a tyre choice that failed to work out deprived Audi of a possible fourth victory of the season in the Eifel. Continue reading ‘DTM: Audi driver Timo Scheider defends points lead’
