Falling share prices on the Tokyo stock exchange have enabled Volkswagen to overtake Toyota and become the world’s largest car manufacturer judged by the amount the company’s shares are worth.

Volkswagen Group of America recently relocated its headquarters to Herndon, Virginia. Housing 300 employees, the newly constructed facility is state of the art and features a very stylish and modern design. As a Volkswagen team driver, I was invited to attend the headquarters grand opening ceremony on September 18th. The morning started with a formal media event announcing the official opening of the facility. As part of the event, Volkswagen of America Inc. president and CEO Mr. Stefan Jacoby emphasized Volkswagen’s commitment to setting the standard in offering an innovative and efficient product line which meets a wide variety of consumer needs. As part of their commitment to the state, Mr. Jacoby announced the Group would donate $2.1 million to educational institutions in Virginia. Among the many dignitaries in attendance was Governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine, who spoke at the event to welcome Volkswagen Group of America to its new home in Herndon. Porsche increases its VW Stake to 35.14 percent

Porsche logoPorsche Automobil Holding SE, Stuttgart, acquired a further 4.89 per cent of the Volkswagen ordinary shares on Tuesday, 16 September. As a result, the total stake in the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer now amounts to 35.14 percent of the voting rights. This step ensures that Porsche has a lasting majority at the VW annual general meeting. Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche, said: “Our goal continues to be to increase our stake in Volkswagen to more than 50 per cent.
