Reliable performances of Škoda Fabias Super 2000 at the Brazilian Rally near Curitiba earned the brand second, third and fourth places in the final standings.
Guy Wilks of Škoda UK Motorsport came second, Juho Hänninen of Škoda Motorsport third and his team Jan Kopecký fourth!
The beginning of the second event of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) series saw bad weather –the prologue scheduled for Thursday had to be cancelled due to long, heavy rains, and so the racers appeared on the start line as late as Friday morning, with altogether 14 speed trials of a total length of 213 km ahead of them. The second event of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) series saw an unpleasant weather at the beginning of the race.
The Thursday prologue was cancelled due to persistent and strong rain, and so the competitors only went to the start on Friday morning. Seven speed tests with total length of 97.5 km were scheduled, and although there were concerns about the condition of the road it has almost dried, and the drivers were up to an extraordinarily fast competition where, in their own words, they ‘only’ use the fifth and sixth gear. Skoda Auto’s factory team Skoda Motorsport is going to appear with three crews at the Monte Carlo Rally in January, the first event of the 2010 season of Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC).
The team’s two long-standing crews, Hänninen – Markkula and Kopecký – Starý, are going to be joined by Frenchman Nicolas Vouilloz, the 2008 IRC champion. Vouilloz is going to choose his co-driver within a few days. (continue reading…)

Skoda Auto’s factory team Skoda Motorsport made up of two crews driving the Fabia S 2000 coped excellently with the challenging gravel track. Being faster than their opponent right from the start and winning all speed trials except one on Day 2 of the competition, Juho Hanninen with Mikko Markkula indeed put in an excellent performance.

Just like at the Azores Rally, Skoda Motorsport team came second at the Ypres Rally in Belgium, thanks to an excellent performance put in by Kopecky. Hanninen finished fifth.
Achieving some of the best times and coming third at Stage 1 including altogether six stages, only 8.4 seconds behind the runner-up and 13.3 seconds behind the leader, Jan Kopecky and Petr Stary became one of the candidates for the overall victory right on the first day. Furthermore, the other factory crew, Juho Hanninen and Mikko Markkula finished fifth, 0.2 seconds behind the fourth-place driver.

After the successful premiere at the Monte Carlo Rally in January and the second-place finish at the Azores Rally in May, the Mlada Boleslav-based team Skoda Motorsport has announced that it will appear at the next IRC event, the Ypres Rally in Belgium (18 – 20 June). The highly competitive start list promises a top-class rally where every second may decide the outcom.
