BorgWarner Turbo Technology Makes CNG-Powered Vehicles Fun to Drive
BorgWarner supplies turbochargers for the Opel 1.6-liter compressed natural gas (CNG) engine as well as the VW 1.4-liter TSI EcoFuel engine, the world’s first direct-injection turbocharged engine modified for CNG operation. Four 2010 Volkswagen models – the brand-leading Jetta sedan, the all-new Golf four-door, the stylish Passat sedan, and the nimble Tiguan – have each received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2010: The highest rating possible from the non-profit research organization. The annual award recognizes those vehicles that perform best in protecting passengers in the Institute’s front, side, and rear crash test evaluations, and the newly required roof-strength test evaluations. The Institute only tests vehicles with electronic stability control (branded Electronic Stabilization Program® / ESP® on Volkswagen vehicles), and head protection airbags. Never before has Volkswagen had so many fuel-efficient and clean models in its range – now ten more new ready-to-order variants are joining the list. In addition to the Passat BlueMotion, an impressive proposition with a consumption of a mere 4.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of only 114 g/km, Volkswagen is launching three new BlueMotion Technology packages available for various models.

‘BlueMotion’ is the best known German automotive environmental label. It debuted in 2006 with the first generation of the Polo BlueMotion, and its combined fuel con sumption figure of just 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres was the best in the world for a five-seat car. At the same time, this Polo represented the beginning of a product offensive being conducted today under the ‘BlueMotion-Technologies’ umbrella brand, which is as unique as it is successful. Volkswagen is now presenting the three key high-volume models in its range as newly designed BlueMotion versions: the Polo, Golf and Passat. All three Volkswagens are equipped with an exceedingly innovative high-tech package, yet they are affordable for all car drivers. This package includes new common rail TDI engines, recovery of braking energy by regenerative braking, a Stop-Start system and refined aerodynamic components.
Volkswagen has been honoured with two class victories and the Passat has been named overall Used Car of the Year by What Car? magazine.
The What Car? Used Car of the Year judging panel was made up of experts from all areas of the motor industry including car dealerships, auction houses and experts from What Car?

All three Volkswagens are the world’s most fuel-efficient models in their respective size classes; all three are celebrating world premieres as production versions at the IAA; and all three can be ordered later this fall.

Maximum score in ADAC EcoTest for Bestsellers
The Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel has been awarded the maximum score of five stars in the ADAC EcoTest. The ADAC EcoTest is considered one of the toughest emission and fuel consumption testing for automobiles.

A new umbrella brand for the world of efficiency
In the first part of this year, Volkswagen will simultaneously launch three extremely fuel-efficient Passat versions with low emissions to the market: the second generation of the Passat BlueMotion, the Passat BlueTDI and the Passat TSI EcoFuel. Each of these new Passats represents an individual solution tailored to meet the challenges of our times. Volkswagen is presenting all three Passats under a new umbrella brand: BlueMotionTechnologies. This label covers all production-mature or near-production technologies and products that significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
