2008 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel: Video Test Drive

You might think about hybrids and say, "Those were so 2005." After all, as promising as hybrids are, many manufacturers are turning to clean diesel as a more promising automotive technology for the future. The next three years will be crucial to the success of clean diesel, as the car companies roll out new diesel products to test the waters. Europeans have long known the benefits of diesel, and it looks like we're about to catch up.

Volkswagen will have one of the first clean diesels in a mainstream non-luxury automobile on sale by January 2008. But Popular Mechanics has always had good spies, and PM.com contributor Paul Eisenstein has an exclusive video look under the hood of a prototype right now:

Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup driver interviews

vw_jetta_tdiCup_logo.jpgBack in October 2007, Volkswagen announced that it would bring its TDI Clean Diesel technology to North American in the form of a race car. Volkswagen went on to launch the Jetta TDI Cup Series, sanctioned by the SCCA. It would run 8 races throughout 2008.

“The Jetta TDI Cup racing series will celebrate Volkswagen’s diesel technology and heritage in motorsports as good, clean fun,” said Stefan Jacoby, CEO, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Not only will the young drivers gain real-life track experience in a factory-prepared race vehicle, it will allow them to develop their own mindset of today’s clean diesel technology, and foster increased awareness of its advantages in this new era of environmental sensitivity.”

Since then we’ve done a bit of work bringing you all the Jetta TDI Cup Series news and photos. We ca now add one more to the list, driver interviews and updates.

Eventually we would like to add them to our iTunes podcast but for now they will be text based.

If you are one of the 30 selected drivers and would like a place to share your race updates, thoughts, travels, etc., drop us a line.
