With a fourfold win at the 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans race, Porsche not only celebrated securing the LMP2 and GT2 championship titles for drivers and teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The Porsche RS Spyder running the new 3.4-litre V8 engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) piloted by Sascha Maassen (Germany), Patrick Long (USA) and Emmanuel Collard (France) also won the Green Challenge, held for the first time and awarded to the most efficient sports prototype. Porsche increases its VW Stake to 35.14 percent

Porsche logoPorsche Automobil Holding SE, Stuttgart, acquired a further 4.89 per cent of the Volkswagen ordinary shares on Tuesday, 16 September. As a result, the total stake in the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer now amounts to 35.14 percent of the voting rights. This step ensures that Porsche has a lasting majority at the VW annual general meeting. Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche, said: “Our goal continues to be to increase our stake in Volkswagen to more than 50 per cent. The City of Stuttgart has taken delivery of two new Porsche Cayenne emergency medical vehicles for the municipal fire department’s Emergency Medical Service. Today both vehicles, which have the radio identification names “Florian Stuttgart 5/82-1” and “5/82-2” were handed over in Zuffenhausen to Dr. Martin Schairer, Stuttgart’s Deputy Mayor in charge of law, public safety and order, by Thomas Edig, Porsche AG’s Executive Board Member responsible for Human Resources and Welfare. Porsche Cayenne S Entering the Market in Transsyberia Style

Porsche AG is honouring the sporting success of the very popular Cayenne model series through the introduction of a new, special model, the Cayenne S Transsyberia entering the market in early 2009.

The term “Transsyberia” stands for the intercontinental rally from Moscow to the Mongolian Capital of Ulan Bator about 7,200 kilometres (4,460 miles) away. In 2006 a Porsche Cayenne for the first time won this highly demanding orientation and off-road rally. Then, entering the competition model for the Transsyberia Rally in 2007, Porsche again proved the outstanding competitiveness of a production-based Cayenne S in heavy terrain, finishing the rally first, second and third. And now, just a few weeks ago, the rally vehicle optimised to an even higher standard not only scored its third overall victory in the Transsyberia Rally, but even clinched all leading positions from 1 - 6. It was on June 26, 1938 that Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG, as the enterprise was then called, moved from Kronenstrasse 24 in the center of Stuttgart to newly-built premises in the district of Zuffenhausen. In May 1937, Ferry Porsche had already acquired a site there at the address Spitalwaldstrasse 2 (as it then was), thus determining the location of the later Porsche factory. 70 years on, the building newly completed in 1938 still forms a central part of the factory complex in Zuffenhausen. Beaming faces in Zuffenhausen: today four children, aged five and six, each collected their own ‘Model 911’ pedal car from the museum of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. They were the lucky winners of a raffle which had taken place at the ‘Bietigheim Wonderland’, an event held in Bietigheim on May 30 and 31, 2008. Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, did not miss the opportunity to greet the young guests himself and hand them their prizes in person: ‘I am very pleased to meet such young Porsche enthusiasts and I hope you will have a lot of enjoyment driving your own little 911s’, said the Chairman, congratulating the children. Porsche AG has once again landed an important public prize for its premium sports cars. Readers of the well-known monthly magazine ‘sport auto‘ have voted two Porsche models as the sportiest cars: yesterday evening, the Porsche Boxster S was named as the best cabriolet in the up to € 80,000 EUR price category and the Porsche 911 GT2 as the best supersports car. The specialist ‘sport auto‘ magazine has been holding this reader vote on the subject of ‘The sportiest cars’ since 1980. Porsche has been the repeated winner of this public prize for 28 years, focusing on driving dynamics and sportiness. J.D. Power quality study – Porsche comes out on top

Vehicles from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG continue to successfully meet the very highest quality standards in the USA, the largest export market for the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer. This is the conclusion reached by US market research institute J.D. Power in its latest ‘Initial Quality Study’ opinion poll, which was published today. Porsche secured first place for the third time in a row in the prestigious brand ranking – considerably ahead of the luxury Nissan brand, Inifiniti, and followed by Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota. 81,500 buyers of new cars were interviewed for the study. VW CEO threatens to resign if Porsche interferes

Volkswagen AG chief executive Martin Winterkorn has threatened to resign if Porsche AG interferes with the group’s operations, according to Der Spiegel magazine, citing sources.

The report also said that managers at VW unit Audi are worried the brand could be the first affected once Porsche becomes a majority shareholder in the group. Audi is seen as a competitor to Porsche.

Porsche, which owns an about 31 percent shareholding in VW, has said it wants to increase its stake to more than 50 percent this year.

60 years of the sports car – a small company becomes the most profitable automobile manufacturer

Porsche celebrates its anniversary. Exactly 60 years ago the cornerstone was laid for the family-operated industrial company, whose rise from modest beginnings to become one of the most important sports car manufacturers in the world no one back then would have ever foreseen.

On June 8, 1948 a new chapter in automobile history began. For on this day, the first Porsche prototype with the vehicle identification number 356-001 received its official approval and homologation for road service. ‘It all started when I began looking around and just could not find my dream car. So I decided to build it myself’, said Ferry Porsche – and to this day, this genius and pioneering spirit has shaped the philosophy of the company.
