The second BlueMotion generation puts highly innovative efficiency technology on the road
  • Economical models in all categories
  • First Passat with CO2 emissions below 120 g

In a robust demonstration of its practical responsibility for the environment and climate protection, Volkswagen plans to introduce many new models into the market this year and next year: each model represents maximised energy effi ciency in its own way. The building blocks of the BlueMotion technologies include a number of options, such as start-stop system, energy recuperation during pure electric drive, a new full hybrid system and an SCR catalyser to reduce NOx emissions. All of these models are in line with a claim which is not exactly modest: Volkswagen builds the cleanest, most effi cient cars in the world, across the board.

/> The 1.6 TDI is a 90 hp unit with a consumption of 3.8 l (96 g CO2) and from this summer onwards will be the most economical fi ve-seater diesel in the world. Next year Volkswagen is going one step further: the Polo BlueMotion 1.2 litre 3-cylinder equipped with low-roll resistance tyres, brake energy recovery and start-stop system will have an astonishingly low consumption of 3.3 litres (87 g CO2).</p><p><strong>Polo BlueMotion:</strong><br
/> The second BlueMotion generation of this mid-range model has a common rail TDI (81 kW/110 hp) with a consumption of 4.9 litres and CO2 emissions of just 128 g/km. The Passat BlueMotion comes with a start-stop system and achieves the Euro-5 emission standard. With a range of 1,400 kilometres on a tank of fuel it is a minor sensation – enough for a trip from Berlin to just outside Rome before refi lling.</p><p><strong>Passat BlueTDI:</strong><br
/> Its 105 kW diesel engine is ahead of its time, it is the fi rst TDI motor compliant with the Euro-6 standard, which does not come into force until 2014. On board the Passat BlueTDI is an SCR catalyser to reduce NOx values to below 80 mg/km. The consumption values of this limousine with a 6-speed box: 5.2 litres (137 g/km CO2). This “clean diesel” model is also available as a Variant (estate) with a 6-gear double clutch gearbox (DSG).</p><p><strong>Passat TSI EcoFuel: </strong><br
/> In combination with the DSG gearbox, this car is the only model in the mid-range with a CO2 value of 119 g/km. The combination of natural gas drive and turbo direct injection is unique. Remarkably, the frugal fuel effi ciency and the dynamics are complementary to one another. The 1.4 litre unit delivers 110 kW/150 hp. The low consumption of up to 4.4 kg natural gas per 100 km – current cost, approx. Euro 4.25 – and a 31 litre petrol tank give this natural gas powered car a quite outstanding total range of over 900 km.</p><p><strong>Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid: </strong><br
/> The prototype of the future Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid (333 hp/ less than 9.0 l/100 km) will be the world’s fi rst hybrid SUV with 3.5 t towing capacity to be produced in series. Volkswagen is equipping this off-road vehicle with one of the world’s most powerful parallel hybrid systems, comprising a compressor-charged B6 TSI (245 kW) engine and a 38 kW electric motor. For speeds of up to 50 km/h, the car can move powered only by the zeroemission electric drive. <script type=var ubervu_url = "http://www.oneighturbo.com/bluemotion/the-second-bluemotion-generation-puts-highly-innovative-efficiency-technology-on-the-road/"; var ubervu_title = "The second BlueMotion generation puts highly innovative efficiency technology on the road"; var ubervu_style = "regular";
