Racing Drivers Take on 24 Hours of Big Bear Mountain Bike Race

Andy Lally (Dacula, GA), Craig Stanton (Long Beach, CA), Mike Simon (Montgomery Village, MD) and Michael DeNino (Gaithersburg, MD) have teamed up to take on the 24 Hours of Big Bear mountain bike relay race.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge,” says Lally, a two time winner of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Lally, who currently races in several premier auto racing series in the United States, including the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ALMS, Rolex Sports Car Series and Koni Sports Car Challenge, recently started competing in mountain bike races where he has seen success early on. Audi’s “Truth in 24″ Documentary Available For Free Download on iTunes

This past weekend history was made once again when Audi took the LMP1 and overall victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring, competing with their newly developed R15 diesel prototypes. The race was extremely close with a 22.279 second margin of victory over Peugeot after 12 hours of racing. Audi also won the Michelin Green X Challenge. Introduced at last year’s Petit Le Mans, the Green X Challenge awards vehicles that make the smallest impact on the environment throughout the course of a race. Speed, fuel type and fuel consumption are taken into account.

24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 23.5 Update

Half and hour to go and the competition could not be closer. First through fourth are all on the lead lap and are running nose to tail with lead changes taking place. The #58 Brumos Porsche is leading, #01 Chip Ganassi Lexus is second, #59 Brumos Porsche in third and the #10 SunTrust Ford is fourth. It is quite amazing that after twenty three and a half hours it has all come down to a 30 minute sprint race.

In GT Andy Lally is leading in the #67 TRG Porsche with a one lap advantage over his team mate Spencer Pumpelly who is currently in second. Gotham Competition is ninth with Randy Pobst currently behind the wheel.

24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 20 Update

Four hours remaining and the #58 Brumos Porsche Riley has the overall lead but only by a few seconds. There are currently four cars still on the lead lap, With the #58 in first, #01 TELEMEX Chip Ganassi Lexus Riley in second, #10 SunTrust Ford Dallara in third and the #59 Brumos Porsche Riley in fourth. The #02 Chip Ganassi Lexus Riley is in fifth, four laps down, while the #16 Penske Racing Porsche Riley is sixth, 13 laps down. The SunTrust team is currently the only Ford powered vehicle still running. The other Ford teams had suffered from engine failures, all were caused by similar problems. 

In GT the #67 TRG Porsche is in first with the #66 TRG car in second, on the same lap. The #07 Banner Racing Pontiac GXP.R is in third, four laps behind the GT leader.   Continue reading ’24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 20 Update’

24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 9 Update

What you don’t always see are the frantic repairs that occur in the middle of the night. You never know when a mechanical problem will occur and you must be prepared for anything and react quickly in order to get back in the race as swiftly as possible. That is what just happened to the #65 TRG car. Craig Stanton drove about half of his stint without power steering. They brought the car into the garage and changed the alternator in addition to performing a brake service. The TRG mechanics did a great job of repairing the car while it was in the garage. Craig Stanton explains.

24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 6 Update

Fireworks light up the night sky at 10:00 PM as they do each year during the 24 Hours of Daytona. 6 Hours in and the race is only one fourth of the way complete.

In the Daytona Prototype category the #58 Brumos Porsche Riley is still holding down the lead with Chip Ganassi Racing’s #02 Lexus Riley in second, Level 5 Motorsports #55 BMW Riley in third, and the #59 Brumos Porsche Riley in fourth.  

 

#65 TRG Porsche GT3 Cup Car pit stop. John Potter getting out of the car and Craig Stanton getting in. They had a problem with the driver change which was the cause of delay in the pit stop. A piece of roll bar padding got knocked down when Potter exited the car and fell into the seat as Stanton entered. Despite loosing time in the pits the 65 car is currently running in seventh with Stanton behind the wheel.
