Bentley’s Continental Supersports ice record did not last to long. Nokian Tyres put the denied stamp on that with an Audi RS 6 with the Hakkapeliitta 7 studded tire. We think not! The 5.0-liter V-10 in the RS 6 is closely related to the naturally aspirated V-10 available in the Audi S6 and outgoing S8, as well the R8 5.2 and the Lamborghini Gallardo. With 580 hp, it has more hp (not that it matters) It hits 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds, and top speed is governed at 155 mph as standard, with the option to have it raised to 174. Audi is offering two new limited-edition equipment packages for the RS 6 – restricted to just 500 units. With a top speed of 303 km/h (188.28 mph), a Carbon design package for the engine compartment, 20-inch wheels bearing a 5 segment-spoke design, and the sports suspension plus, each of these RS 6 models will be truly unique. Six of jailed money manager Trevor Cook’s cars, which will be up for auction Saturday in downtown Minneapolis, surrounded Matt Rabanus of Classic Auto Storage. Most are high-mileage, relatively low-value cars. But the one in the front right is the real prize of the bunch, a highly modified Audi screamer that Cook bought from a financial expert in Switzerland. It’s expected to fetch more than $30,000. The readers of the German car magazine sport auto have cast their votes: Audi has taken first place in three classes in the poll to find ‘The Sportiest Cars of 2008’ with the S3, the RS 6 Avant, and the R8.
The victory of the Audi RS 6 Avant in its first appearance in the poll was particularly notable. It amassed a total of 31.7 % of reader votes and left its German competitors trailing in its wake.
As well as these three victories, the brand with the four rings also took numerous other top-three placings in the reader poll. The Audi A3 2.0 TDI, Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI and Audi TTS all came second in their groups, while the A4 3.0 TDI quattro, A4 3.2 FSI quattro and A6 3.2 FSI quattro took impressive third places.
In ‘The Sportiest Cars of 2008’, there was a total of 14 categories for series-production vehicles and 11 tuning classes. More than 10,000 readers of sport auto took part.
