From the film’s U.S. Premiere in Los Angeles to its nationwide May 5 television debut on SPEED TV, “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts,” the highly anticipated sequel to “Truth in 24,” has allowed fans a glimpse into the Audi world of racing as it documented the brand’s exciting win at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France.

Now, in response to the film’s successful television debut, “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts,” will be exclusively available for free download on the iTunes Store beginning May 22 in the U.S., United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The free download on iTunes also means fans will be able to enjoy the film on any Mac or PC, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or on your HDTV with Apple TV. “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts,” narrated by Jason Statham, documents the Audi Sport Team Joest as they attempt to seek Audi’s tenth victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2011. When tragedy struck twice, the lone Audi R18 TDI® #2 race car remained to fight three Peugeots. Risks were taken, boundaries were pushed and nerves were rattled. “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts” highlights Audi’s win and documents what unfolded over the next 24 Hours at Le Mans as it became one of the most competitive and gripping races the world had ever seen.

Written and directed by Rob Gehring, produced and edited by Charlie Askew, Rob Gehring, Dave Neupauer, Brian Rosenfield and Scott Thor and Executive Produced by Charles N. Besser, Howard Katz and Steve Sabol, the film follows the gripping suspense as team engineer Leena Gade, drivers André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer and Marcel Fässler worked to gain Audi’s tenth Le Mans victory. The tenth win also made history as Gade, who was forced to make many difficult split second decisions, was named the first female race engineer ever to orchestrate a winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Truth in 24 II” Every Second Counts is the third installment of the series. Audi released its first documentary, “Truth in 24” at AFI FEST in 2008, which was also narrated by Jason Statham and chronicled the Audi R10 team and their quest for a third straight outright win of the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2010, “Truth in Motion” followed the U.S. Ski Team’s road to Vancouver chronicling the road to becoming a world-class skier. The day-to-day triumphs and tribulations are documented in an up close and personal way rarely seen by the consumer. All three films, “Truth in 24,” “Truth in Motion” and “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts” are available for free on iTunes.

Audi is starting to the Nurburgring 24 Hours from the front row. In Friday’s top 40 qualifying, Christian Mamerow in the Audi R8 LMS ultra took position two on the grid. At the 40th running of the Eifel classic, five Audi R8 LMS ultra qualified for the seven front rows.

As early as on lap one of the top 40 qualifying session Christian Mamerow managed to set a lap time of 8m 19.700s which initially made him the front runner. In the only other timed lap that was permitted Uwe Alzen was the only driver to be quicker once more than the Audi racer. Team Mamerow Racing achieved this remarkable performance in its debut season with the new Audi R8 LMS ultra – Team Director Peter Mamerow had only taken over the GT3 sports car in March. This result marked an especially pleasing outcome of the qualifying event for Audi – particularly since the work of all five Audi teams was not centered on chasing for a single fast time but on thorough and comprehensive preparation for the race.

The second-best Audi driver in the final qualifying session was Frank Stippler. At the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Audi Sport Team Phoenix he managed to set the eighth-best time on the 25.378-kilometer Eifel roller-coaster. Three other Audi drivers – Edward Sandström (Speedhunters Team WRT), Marc Basseng (Audi Sport Team Phoenix) and Thomas Mutsch (Raeder Motorsport) – achieved positions eleven to 13. The Audi race experience is starting into the race from rows 13 and 14.

Qualifying marked the conclusion of a very thorough preparation phase of the Audi squads for the Nurburgring 24 Hours. Audi Sport Team Phoenix just like the teams supported by Audi Sport customer racing, Audi race experience, Mamerow Racing, Raeder Motorsport and Speedhunters Team WRT, used the free practice and the first two qualifying sessions to optimally set up the seven Audi R8 LMS ultra cars for the 24-hour racing distance. The work was centered on programs for the suspension set-up, aerodynamics, fuel consumption and the Michelin tires. Until Friday afternoon all cars were converted to the component specifications for the race.

Germany’s biggest race will start at 16:00 on Saturday. From 15:30 on, www.audi.tv will broadcast the entire competition up to the finish by live streaming.

AUDI AG is acquiring from Investindustrial Group the tradition-steeped Italian sports motorcycle manufacturer Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A., which has its registered office in Bologna. The transaction will be completed as quickly as possible once authorized by the competition authorities. The Supervisory Boards of AUDI AG and Volkswagen AG approved the acquisition today in Hamburg. Ducati is known worldwide as a leading brand in motorcycle manufacture, with outstanding expertise in engine development and lightweight construction.

Alongside the traditional Italian brands Lamborghini and Italdesign, Ducati is now a third pillar for AUDI AG in Northern Italy. Another building block in the Company’s growth strategy thus falls into place. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, declared: “Ducati is known worldwide as a premium brand among motorcycle manufacturers and has a long tradition of building sporty motorcycles. It has great expertise in high-performance engines and lightweight construction, and is one of the world’s most profitable motorcycle manufacturers. That makes Ducati an excellent fit for Audi.” The progressive control systems and special combustion chamber process of Ducati engines, their resulting sporty character, and Ducati’s extensive know-how in lightweight construction thus offer great potential for AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group.

Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council of AUDI AG, explains that the employee representatives of AUDI AG support the Company’s sustainable, co-determined growth strategy. “We must use the opportunities offered by globalization for Audi – and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Everyone at Audi is looking forward to working with our new colleagues from Ducati,” commented Mosch.

Ducati is a globally active company and has manufacturing operations at its headquarters in Bologna and at its own factory in Thailand. It maintains a series of importer companies in strategic markets. Experts predict that the motorcycle market will enjoy strong growth over the next few years, especially in Asia. In 2011, Ducati sold around 42,000 motorcycles and generated revenue of some €480 million, employing around 1,100 people.

The company was founded by Adriano and Marcello Ducati in Bologna in 1926. Known originally as Società Scientifica Radiobrevetti Ducati, it initially built parts for radios. It ventured into the manufacture of motorcycles in 1949.

Ducati has been actively involved in motorcycle racing for many decades through its racing division Ducati Corse. Its racing activities are currently focused on the Ducati official factory team in the MotoGP class of the Motorcycle World Championship and in the Superbike World Championship, supporting competitive private teams. Ducati won the manufacturers’ championship in this latter class 17 times in 21 championships and the pilots’ 14 times.

So far over 355,000 man hours have been spent on what will be the biggest Audi terminal worldwide in terms of new cars on display. The development, located between the second and third interchange on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, represents an investment of over AED 100 million by Al Nabooda Automobiles.

The official opening of the state-of-the-art showroom is expected three months ahead of schedule in November this year with a 300 strong team working double shifts. Following record sales figures in recent months, the German car manufacturer is now increasing capacities in a bid to become the number one premium brand in the UAE and Middle East market. Upon completion, the vast showroom will cover 94,000 square feet on three levels and offer display space for up to 57 cars. It is the first multi-floor car showroom in Dubai using an extensive array of lifts to move display vehicles to the second and third floors. Audi customers will enjoy valet parking service, an escalator and a panoramic lift, as well as state-of-the-art multimedia technology, including a power wall dedicated to virtual vehicle customization.

Speaking about the new site, K. Rajaram, CEO of Al Nabooda Automobiles , said “Audi’s growth has been exceptional over the last years – in terms of volume and products. This investment will enable us to accommodate the increasing momentum and is a clear signal of our intent in the region. We are looking forward to the official opening in November and drawing international attention to Dubai.”

“The new Audi terminal is already three levels high and we encourage everyone passing by on Sheikh Zayed Road to watch the progress. The new showroom will feature a range of excellent facilities and demonstrates our commitment to providing exceptional levels of service for our customers in line with our strategy of customer delight”, commented Audi Middle East’s Managing Director, Jeff Mannering. “The Audi terminal in Dubai will be the most visible sign of the Audi brand offensive and our comprehensive and future-orientated line of products.”

In addition to the Sheikh Zayed Road project Al Nabooda Automobiles also announces the opening of new facilities in Fujairah, also in 2012, and Sharjah in 2013, totaling the investment for Audi to approximately AED 200 million across the three showrooms.

The Audi Group delivered around 1,302,659 cars of the Audi brand to customers in 2011. In 2011 the Company posted revenue of €44.1 billion and an operating profit of €5.3 billion. Audi produces vehicles in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (Germany), Gy?r (Hungary), Changchun (China) and Brussels (Belgium). The Audi Q7 is built in Bratislava (Slovakia). In July 2010, CKD production of the Audi Q5 was added to the existing Audi A4 and A6 manufacturing operations in Aurangabad (India). At the Brussels plant, production of the Audi A1 has been running since May 2010, while production of the new A1 Sportback began in 2012. The Audi Q3 has been built in Martorell (Spain) since June 2011. The Company is active in more than 100 markets worldwide. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich played an instrumental role in shaping the new DTM regulations. Here is a keynote interview with the Head of Audi Motorsport on the start of the DTM season at the Hockenheimring on April 29 and the expectations of Audi Sport.

Dr. Ullrich, in 2012 the DTM begins a new era and you’ve been intensively involved in creating it. What was special about preparing for the new DTM season in your view?

The three manufacturers involved jointly developed a completely new set of regulations – including numerous standard components. This has never been the case before in this form and is no doubt very special. The regulations raise the safety standards to a level previously unknown with touring cars while reducing the single costs of the vehicles.

What is the significance of the DTM for Audi?

The DTM makes it possible for us to be active in top-caliber motorsport close to the product – and largely in Audi’s home market Germany – which continues to be an important one for us.

How does the result in the DTM impact on the Audi brand?

Our customers and potential customers of course take note of success in motorsport. It automatically reflects on the sportiness of the brand. The best way to demonstrate your sportiness is to be – successfully – active in sport. Through our motorsport successes we can no doubt continue to positively influence Audi’s brand image.

You’ve been at the helm of Audi Sport since 1993. Are the four rings ingrained in your heart after such a long time?

I’ve always been absolutely convinced of the Audi brand. I’m with Audi because for me it’s the automobile brand with the most exciting and successful history – and I am proud of helping to shape this.

The three German premium automobile manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, are competing against each other for the first time in 20 years. What are you expecting of the 2012 DTM? And not strictly speaking in a sporting sense.

This is a great opportunity for the DTM to yet again improve its position as one of the best touring car series. I personally believe that we’ve even got the chance to jointly get the world’s best touring car series off the ground. Obviously, this means that the three manufacturers will also have to work together a lot, aside from the competition on the track. My wish is that even during the racing season we’ll be able to continue to collaborate in the good spirit that existed for a whole year during our preparations.

Now that there are three manufacturers, how does this affect the collaboration?

Like in a sandbox, it generally tends to be more difficult when there are three players than just two. But the spirit that has been prevailing so far in the first year of preparing for the DTM makes me look toward the future with optimism.

The sporting aim for 2012 can only be: title defense – right?

It goes without saying that our aim is to defend the title. Yet our first aim is to have cars that are in contention for victory. And then we want to do everything within our means to defend our title. It’ll no doubt be even more difficult than in the past – but with our driver line-up and three proven teams, all of which are starting into the new DTM with equal opportunities, we should be in a very good position. The DTM has been and will continue to be a matter of teamwork.

Have Audi and Mercedes-Benz got advantages with their DTM experience?

Naturally, experience gives you a minor advantage. On the other hand, a brand new entrant may have the benefit of doing certain things in a different way, which may prove to give them a minor advantage. It’ll be very interesting.

In your assessment, how strong is newcomer BMW?

BMW has been very intensively preparing for the DTM for more than a year and, just like Audi and Mercedes-Benz, developed a new car according to new regulations which are the same for everyone. In view of the touring car know-how that BMW has gathered in many years of work in the field, we’re expecting to meet with a very strong rival – and that’s exactly our assessment of BMW right from the first race weekend on.

There will even be more identical parts in the DTM than before. Considering this, how can a manufacturer individually stand out from the competition?

The identical parts concept does not impair this. You can develop a defined area of aerodynamics; you can make manufacturer-specific developments of the suspensions. The engine is a specific component for each manufacturer. Even the overall package can be optimized by each manufacturer within certain limits. That’s why I certainly see sufficient possibilities for all manufacturers to not only develop the outer shell specifically for their brand but additional components that are relevant to success as well. Of the 4,000 parts of an A5 DTM only about 50 are spec-parts.

What are the special features of the A5 DTM in your view?

For me, the A5 DTM is the most beautiful car of the three new DTM vehicles. Plus, I think that in terms of providing the base, the A5 is a very good car for the DTM that not only looks good but which our guys have also turned into a very good race car. I’m hoping that in the A5 we’ll have a car in our hands that is good and in contention for victory right from the first race on.

What are the areas in which the A5 DTM is particularly innovative?

Principally, we’re talking about a lot of detailed work in the DTM. Particularly in the area of aerodynamics and suspension kinematics all manufacturers have tried to work out their little advantages – and, naturally, we’re hoping that we’ve successfully managed to do this.

The engine was adopted from the “old” DTM. When will the DTM opt for new technologies, such as a hybrid system like the one used in the new Audi R18 e-tron quattro?

We didn’t want to take too many steps at once. That’s why we initially adopted the existing engines for the new vehicles. This engine concept has been proving its viability for many years. Room for a hybrid system has already been reserved in the vehicle concept though. We will jointly define if and when it will make sense for the DTM to switch to a different engine concept.

How important would be – or is – the DTM as a topic in Japan and in the USA?

For Audi, the USA is no doubt very important. And Japan is a prestige market as well. This means that Audi has a strong interest in also being able to show its presence in these two countries that are important to the brand. The three manufacturers and the ITR are working together on taking the DTM to both Japan and the United States. But everyone should be clear about the fact that this is not something that will happen very quickly. It requires a lot of detailed work. If you want to turn this into a really good thing, you need patience and time.

Back to the 2012 season: Six vehicles were originally planned, now there are eight. How did this come about?

Last year, we were already poised to field eight vehicles in the DTM and are assuming that in 2013 all manufacturers will put at least eight cars on the grid. Due to the fact that we had to develop an extremely challenging hybrid car – the Audi R18 e-tron quattro – for the Le Mans 24 Hours and a completely new DTM vehicle in a parallel project, we were initially planning for seven cars for 2012. I’m pleased to see that now the opportunity of fielding eight cars has materialized. I’m convinced that in view of the DTM’s high caliber it’s advantageous to put the maximum number of cars on the grid. It’ll probably be very close – but one additional vehicle also means one additional opportunity. And an even number makes more sense than an odd number in terms of logistics and team effort.

In the past, there were many behind-the-scenes discussions about a lack of overtaking in the DTM. Based on the track tests, are there any findings of how the situation will look with the coupes?

On the A4 DTM we had a large number of very small aerodynamics components especially at the rear that would quickly be damaged in incidents of slight body contact and then severely change the car’s performance. Accordingly, it was necessary to drive in a way that would prevent the risk of suffering an aerodynamic disadvantage. The new regulations are trying to stop this. Of course that doesn’t mean that the drivers can now constantly run into each other’s cars. But I do believe that the rules will at least be conducive to more duels – and thus more overtaking maneuvers.

What can the fans expect of the new DTM in general?

The three German premium manufacturers in a high-caliber championship with vehicles that visually are heavily oriented to well-known and popular production cars should thrill any true touring car fan. In its new form, I see the DTM as the world’s strongest touring car series, albeit one that is just moving into its first year in this new form.
