DTM: Norisring – Qualifying

Well that sucked! You know I have been wondering about something.. Audi seems to go backwards when they get a weight penalty but AMG seems to go forward with theirs…

To quote Mattias:

The result at Brands Hatch with a double podium and (therefore) two Audi drivers heading the standings means the signs are good for this race. Since Bernd Schneider won the last race, the 2007-spec Audis will compete on a similar weight level as the new Mercedes for the first time since Hockenheim.

- I’m pretty pleased with the result in the last race, Mattias says. It means we can take off 7 kg for this race while Mercedes will have to add 7 kg to their new cars. I would have liked the second place, but at least it was my team mate Tomczyk who stole it, Mattias smiles.

So back to qualifying.

Bruno Spengler claims pole position from Häkkinen, Schneider, Paffett, Scheider, Green, Ekström and Kristensen. That puts 4 of the top AMG guys front. Bernd Schneider won the last race so he should have a weight penalty, yet he excels on a track with the need for traction out of the corners, high top speed down the fast straights and hard braking for the very tight corners.
