The Audi R8 GT is “Sports Car of the Year 2011” in the category “Production Supercars.” 2011 marks the 10th time that a jury from the Auto Bild SportsCars trade journal has awarded the prize, which was presented this evening at the Essen Motor Show.

Stephan Reil, Head of Development at quattro GmbH, accepted the award, one of the most coveted in the German automotive industry, for the Audi R8 GT before some 450 invited guests. 70,976 readers of the magazine took part in this year’s anniversary voting for “Sports Car of the Year 2011.”

The Audi subsidiary, quattro GmbH is responsible for the development and production of the Audi high-performance sports car. Its 5.2-liter V10 engine produces 412 kW (560 hp), making it a driving machine with excellent longitudinal dynamics and lateral acceleration as well as lightning-fast, virtually instantaneous reactions. The engineers have reduced the weight of the Audi R8 GT by another 100 kg (220.46 lb) compared with the R8 5.2 FSI quattro. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h (198.84 mph). Its average ECE fuel consumption is just 13.9 liters per 100 km (16.92 US mpg).

173 cars that had previously proven their worth in more than 300 tests and road reports were nominated in 17 classes, which were further broken down into Production, Tuning and Limited Production. Besides the winner, five other Audi models were placed in the top three of their respective classes: the Q7 V12 TDI in the category “Production SUV,” the RS 3 Sportback in the category “Production Compact Cars,” the RS 5 in “Production Coupés,” the Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TFSI quattro in “Production Station Wagons” and the R8 GT Spyder in the category “Production Convertibles.”

Ok, for the Honda fans, the new NSX looks great and if it comes stacked with the V6 engine + twin electric motors, it will be hot. However, Tony Stark seems to have switched up and traded in his Audi R8 for a look-a-like Honda/Acura NSX. Tony, you are one smart fella but this choice is not. These shots ere taken on the set of the new and highly anticipated Avengers movie due to hit theaters next year.

O.CT’s takes one 420hp V8, adds one supercharger, tweaks the ECU and gives us a delicious 565hp BEAST! Compare that to the R8 V10′s 525hp and the R8 GT’s 560hp. Granted the R8 GT’s weight has been reduced 220lbs. It could add up to a nice sleeper, if it didn’t sound like Godzilla! Check out the video after the jump.

O.CT also has a stainless steel exhaust system specifically for this application. No word on if it saves weight or increases the horsepower.

With the speed limiter removed, it reaches 0 to 60 mph .7 seconds faster than the factory’s 4.4 seconds. A 0 to 155 mph in just 24 seconds.

Ok, we’re not sure how our bud Josh from quattroworld.com persuaded University Audi to let him borrow two Audi R8′s for a photoshoot… but somehow he did and managed to drive both to a not-so-nice neighborhood, set them up and snap some wicked shots of these two beauties.

One Coupe, one Spyder. One black, one white. One V8, one V10! Combined, your’e looking at roughly $270K and just under 1000hp!

Red is the colour of love – and the Spyder ABT R8 GT S is on display in an elegant, self-confident red chrome tone at the Motorshow Geneva. A contrast is provided by the middle section of the car with carbon dominating from the bonnet to the rear wing. When designing the car, the Motorsport Department of ABT Sportsline paid attention to weight reductions and the perfect distribution of weight. With its dynamic carbon inlays at the side and on the covers of engine and convertible-top the cabrio signalises that it is one of the fastest around. The front skirt, rear skirt, windscreen frame cover, red air scoops, engine bonnet or even the mirrors are not just design, they are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CRP) and are correspondingly light. The sports car is the perfect weight to achieve highest performance.

The dream car from Bavaria now brings 620 HP (456 kW) onto the road thanks to ABT POWER. This is compared to 525 HP (386 kW) on standard models. A performance improvement of almost 20% is a statement in the super sports car class: the ABT R8 GT S sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. The cabrio with the 5.2 litre V10 engine is fully compatible for everyday use and is real fun for cruising on country roads. After all the “hot open-top sports car” is open to anything. And thanks to the ABT Suspension the setup is optimal at all times. The Sports exhaust system provides good acoustics and is an important part of the design concept, it harmonises with the diffuser, rear wing and trapeze-shaped rear skirt. The car is not just extremely quick, but also looks like it is. It makes hearts skip a beat, especially when the light metal alloy ABT BR in 20 or the CR Superlight in 19 inch announce the car’s inherent power even when stationary.

With the ABT R8 GT S the love of detail continues in the interior: ABT Sportsline has “dressed” the sports steering wheel, the centre console, the shifting gate and parts of the door panels in red carbon. As a contrast the remaining parts of the doors and the dashboard were covered with new leather. The texture of the material is expressive and elegant. The red and black leather of the seats perfectly harmonises with this styling. Red safety belts and illuminated door sill panels round off the powerful appearance of the ABT R8 GT S.

MTM from Wettstetten will be represented at the Autosalon in Geneva from the 3. – 13. March 2011 with two cars. In hall 5 MTM, car manufacturer and upgrading specialist, presents not only technical details and masterstrokes but also a visual highlight, which lets the exhibition hall shine in the truest sense of the word. The MTM R8 Biturbo with 777 hp / 571 kW and a top speed of more than 350 km/h was highly polished by MTM , this unique specimen with a worth of over 400.000 € was depainted completely in a special procedure and the aluminum chassis was polished in more than 700 working hours – all handmade.

MTM R8 V10 BiTurbo
The details of the highly polished MTM R8 V10 Biturbo, for which MTM also promises a registration for Germany: Performance upgrade to 777 hp, 888 Nm torque and a top speed beyond the 350 km/h. MTM also expects best acceleration values:

• 0 – 100 in 3.0 sec
• 0 – 200 in 9.37 sec
• 0 – 300 in 19.42 sec

The test drives on the highspeed track in Nardo in South Italy in September last year showed that the car can be moved in a sporty way also under extreme conditions, full load drives and extreme temperatures. MTM uses a coil over kit with adjustable suspensions, 20″ forged rims in the Bimoto design and MTM brakes 380 x 34 mm dimpled with 8-piston calipers at the front and rear axle.

The V10 Biturbo engine was already tested successfully in the RS6 with up to 740 hp / 544 kW and a top speed of 362,5 km/h in Nardo.

Real uniqueness you can also find at the design: The paint of the R8 was completely removed and highly polished in over 700 working hours. The plastic attaching parts have been replaced by carbon parts or with a special paint polished. An adjustable rear spoiler and a front lip out of carbon improve the aerodynamic and stabilize the car. The interior leather shows that MTM Individual has a perfect design.

This is the smashed-up and burned-out wreckage of the £125,000 supercar from which Manchester United midfielder Anderson was pulled moments before it exploded.

The white Audi R8 – which has a top speed of 197mph – is just a shell after smashing into a wall, flying 100ft through the air and landing in a field.

Its battered and filthy bonnet displays to the impact of the crash while the obliterated rear end bears the charring caused by the explosion and flames.

Anderson is said to have spent the evening at the Sardinha Biba nightclub before leaving in the French-registered Audi.

The 22-year-old was a passenger in the car during the accident in Portugal in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Brazilian was believed to be traveling with two friends, a man and a woman, when the accident occurred.

The sports car, driven by Anderson’s male friend, slid off the road and hit a wall before flying 100ft through the air and landing in a field.

Anderson’s body was dragged from the burning wreckage before it exploded, with witnesses reporting the the player saying he owed them his life.

All three were taken to St Mark’s hospital but discharged by late morning after being treated for concussion, whiplash and shock.

‘They had only minor injuries,’ a hospital spokesman, Roman Fresco, told The Guardian. The woman is understood to have needed the most treatment.

Portuguese police are investigating.

The Portuguese press quoted the Gestifute agency, which represents Anderson, as saying the former Porto player had suffered an ‘almighty scare’.

But it is understood he will return to Manchester to continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury in February, which ended his World Cup dreams.

He has been struggling to get his career back on track after a fall-out with manager Alex Ferguson.
Anderson, whose full name is Anderson Luis di Abreu Oliveira, suffered a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee in February, ruling him out of the World Cup.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been told of the player’s accident but the club were unavailable for comment last night.

Our friends over at fourtitude.com found a great looking Imola yellow Audi R8 today. While the owner took more of an OEM+ route with a bit of accents on the interior, our find is more aggressive. This R8 is riding on a sick stance. Painted blades, simple clean lines and body with perfect black accent and chrome lips make this one bad ass ride.
