Volkswagen Golf and Audi A4 victorious in three categories – Volkswagen Group continues to lead Europe’s largest fleet market
The Volkswagen Group once again enjoyed great success in the ‘Fleet News Award 2009’ announced by the British trade journal ‘Fleet News’, taking three first places. The award honors the best fleet models in the UK in a total of ten categories.
This year’s award ceremony, the twenty-first of its kind, was held in London. The jury comprising trade association members, automakers, ‘Fleet News’ editors and fleet customers pays special attention to criteria such as quality, running costs including residual value, and CO2 emissions.
In the ‘Best Small Family Car’ category, the highest-volume category, the jury awarded first place to the Volkswagen Golf. The Audi A4 received the ‘Best Large Premium Car’ award as well as winning the ‘Company Car of the Year’ category which is considered the award’s most prestigious class.
The UK is Europe’s largest fleet market and by tradition is highly concentrated, with a small number of customers running very large fleets. Roughly three percent of customers, for example, represent approximately 60 percent of the entire key account business. The Volkswagen Group with its Volkswagen, Audi, Seat und Skoda brands reached a market share of 22.8 percent in the passenger car fleet market, which comprises fleets of 25 vehicles or more, for the full 2008 calendar year, and is therefore the clear market leader. Much of this success is attributable to the Volkswagen Golf, which currently heads the passenger car model rankings.
