The Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS of Christopher Haase took over the lead at Piory on lap 22, stretched it out to 1.6sec gap… then transmission problems forced the car to retire. 10 more laps and the Audi R8 LMS would have its first win of the year. It was the #32 Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS of Nicolas Armindo and Cesar Campanico that was also having at battle at the front, even skating across grass at one point, but holding onto a third place finish! Dimitri Enjalbert and Johan-Boris Scheier celebrated the maiden win for the AutoGT Racing Morgan Super Super in the opening round of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone. Starting from pole position Enjelbert briefly lost the lead but bounced back to hold the advantage until Scheier came under pressure late in the race from the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS of Christopher Haase. FIAGT3: Debut Pole for AutoGT Racing and for Morgan Aero Super Sport

Yes, this is not a shot of a VW, Audi, Porsche etc., however it is the incredible Morgan Aero Super Sport. We love the Morgan! So we gave it some props here on oneighturbo.com. Now for the Audi R8 GT3′s, we saw them claim Row 2 in the first qualifying session but way off pace in the second session. We have two shots of them on the next page.

Belgian GT: Audi R8 GT3 off to a good start

Considering that both drivers of the Phoenix Audi, Jean-François Hemroulle and Tim Verbergt have been classed as “Gold”, they automatically inherited an extra 50 kilos of ballast. Now I’m not familiar with this “Gold” definition but I guess they are “better” than the others? If anyone out there knows, please drop a comment.

Belgian GT: Audi R8 GT3 off to a good start

The Belgian Race Kick Off was the season’s opener for the Belgian GT Championship Mediagroep Van Dyck and for pole holder Jeffrey Van Hooydonk the season couldn’t have started off in a worse way. Our former F3000-driver, due to a problem in the right hand front wheel hub, was unable to exit the pit box in time, resulting in the KRK Dodge finally taking to the track a few laps down. The other KRK Viper appeared to be going well, but a ten seconds stop & go put an end to any ambitions they might have held. The reason for this penalty was a late tyre change on the starting grid.
