Compact, convenient and a “complete ABT” – that’s the A1. All the more so in its most sporty form: with the latest engine (1.4 TFSI) the small car offers 210 HP or 154 kW. This makes the ABT A1 a genuine sports car, which cannot and does not want to deny its closeness to motorsport, as Hans-Jurgen Abt stresses: “Even the series standard version of the car is a lot of fun in particular on winding roads – and it is precisely for this reason that we have focused on providing extra power. The performance improvement increases the car’s agility and fits its driving characteristics perfectly.” The General Manager of the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen Group knows what makes a sporty car: “It doesn’t just need to have good throttle response, but the handling has to be right too. The Euro NCAP consortium tested the passive crash safety of the new Audi A1 and awarded it the top score of five stars. The results for adult protection in a frontal, rear or side collision, as well as for child safety and pedestrian protection, place the new Audi A1 among the safest vehicles in its category. When he calls, they all come running – and they bring along gifts. British artist Damien Hirst has designed an A1 for Sir Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball, which the musician and his partner David Furnish host each year at their Old Windsor residence. Audi sponsored the car for the auction held last night – making it the eighth consecutive year that the company has supported the AIDS charity event. The proceeds from the Hirst A1: 420.000 euros. For the fourth year in a row, AUDI AG will have its own stand at the GTI meet at the Wörthersee and is once again expecting Audi fans from throughout Europe. The new Audi A1 is playing a leading role at the 29th Wörthersee Tour (May 12 – 15) in Reifnitz (Carinthia), Austria. Innovative adhesive film designs, vibrant paint finishes as well as exterior add-on parts and a matching interior will transform a total of seven models of the new compact car into spectacular motto vehicles. Furthermore, the Audi R8 GT, a limited-production version of the high-performance sports car, will be presented to the general public for the first time at Wörthersee shortly after its world premiere.
