With a second and a sixth place on the sixth weekend of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring Luca Ludwig and Christopher Mies in the Audi R8 LMS fielded by Team ABT Sportsline have maintained their chances of winning the title. The two youngsters reduced their 16-point gap to the leader of the standings to nine points in the Eifel and will travel to the season’s finale at Oschersleben (October 1-3) as the hunters. A new Audi team will debut in the ADAC GT Masters during the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters April 9-11 at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Pole Promotion in an Audi R8 is a ‘sports car dream league.’ For its inaugural season in the ADAC GT Masters the team from Rinteln will field two young drivers. Heiko Hammel (21, Wohlmuthausen) and Jimmy Johansson (25, Sweden) will drive the 500-hp mid-engine sports car from Ingolstadt. (continue reading…)
With high aims, a healthy dose of self-confidence and new faces, Team ABT Sportsline will start into the 2010 motorsport year next weekend (10/11 April).
The Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will see the ADAC GT Masters, in which the Kempten-based squad will try to defend Christian Abt’s title with two Audi R8 LMS cars and the ATS Formula 3 Cup stage their season openers. After winning Formula ADAC, Daniel Abt will contest his first race in the German Championship for the Van Amersfoort Racing team, thus igniting the next stage of his still young career. The ABT Sportsline squad is embarking on its title defence project: The Kempten-based team around last year’s champion Christian Abt will contest the popular German sportscar series with two Audi R8 LMS cars and is banking on an equally prominent and strong driver line-up.
Luca Ludwig and Christopher Mies will share a 500-hp R8. Jens Klingmann along with another new driver to be signed soon, will pilot the second car. At the end of the 2009 motorsport season AUDI AG cannot only be pleased with the successful title defense in the DTM. The Audi R8 LMS made a convincing showing in its first racing season as well: The GT3 race sports car developed for customer sport clinched 23 victories and three champion’s titles.

The dream has come true: With a fourth place in the penultimate round of the ADAG GT Masters Christian Abt has captured the title in the hotly contested sports car series. The 42 years old Kempten showed the race at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on Saturday not only enormous nerve, but also a fine sense of history: He won the title on the day exactly a decade after his triumph in the championship on 17 STW October 1999. It is also the first title ever for the new Audi R8 LMS, celebrated its race debut until 2009.

The penultimate race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters was successful for
Audi: Christopher Haase and Henri Moser (Phoenix Racing) won both races at the Sachsenring with a dominant lead. In the second race Christian Abt/Christopher Mies (Team ABT Sportsline) and Frank Kechele/Tim Verbergt (Argo-Racing) even secured a one-two-three win for the Audi R8 LMS. Before the finale at Oschersleben two R8 drivers – Christian Abt and Henri Moser – are leading the standings.
