American Le Mans Series, round 5 in Lime Rock, USA
It was very nice to see Porsche take top spot this weekend at Lime Rock. With Corvette coming into the GT2 class at Mid-Ohio, Porsche shows its the one to beat! VICI Racing also had a great run with Johannes Stuck and Richard Westbrook taking 5th place in their 911 GT3 RSR.

Porsche stays on title course in the American Le Mans Series. At the fifth round in Lime Rock in the US state of Connecticut, Porsche works drivers Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) secured their fourth GT2 class win in succession at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. With this success, Porsche extends its lead in the series with the world’s fastest sports cars.

At the wheel of the Flying Lizard Motorsports 911 GT3 RSR, Patrick Long moved into the lead of the fiercely-contested GT2 field on the 2.487 kilometre race track after just 25 minutes. After handing the car to his teammate after 68 laps, Joerg Bergmeister put in a strong drive and perfect pit stops to further increase their lead. After 2:45 hours he crossed the finish line one lap ahead of the second-placed Ferrari. For the Porsche works drivers, this marked the fourth win this season after St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Salt Lake City. At the same time, Porsche again won the Michelin Green Challenge, an environmental classification for vehicles displaying the best overall efficiency in the ratio of lap times and fuel consumption.

‘That was an extremely good race for us, but it wasn’t as easy as it might have looked, particularly towards the end. In any case, I couldn’t relax,’ said Joerg Bergemeister after his fourth consecutive Lime Rock win. His Flying Lizard pit crew gave him the decisive advantage with a quick final pit stop 25 minutes before the end of the race. When the Ferrari then braked too late coming into the pits and received a stop-and-go penalty, the result was clear. Joerg Bergmeister said: ‘The final laps were then relatively easy.’
‘We have now won four races and have been able to gain some breathing space in the championship. But we fought hard for every one of those races and today’s was no exception,’ said Patrick Long, who was also thrilled over winning the Michelin Green Challenge: ‘It shows that Porsche is not only leading when it comes to performance but also in efficiency.’

Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler only narrowly missed out on a podium result with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Farnbacher Loles Racing. After his second place recently in Salt Lake City, he claimed fourth with Bryce Miller (USA) ahead of Johannes Stuck (Austria) and Richard Westbrook (Great Britain) in the 911 GT3 RSR of VICI Racing. After the race Wolf Henzler didn’t slow down: In a private plane he was rushed from Lime Rock to Birmingham/Alabama after the finish to compete in the eighth round of the Grand-Am Series on Sunday with the Farnbacher Loles Racing 911 GT3 Cup.
Victory in the ALMS Challenge, a new category under the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series, went to Wesley Hoaglund (USA) and Bob Faieta (USA) with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
Round 6 of the American Le Mans Series takes place on 8 August in Mid-Ohio in the US state of Ohio.
