Audi drivers Marcel Fassler and Emanuele Pirro achieved their first victory in the LM P1 class of the American Le Mans Series in the city street race in Detroit (U.S. state of Michigan). After a faultless drive they finished third overall with their Audi R10 TDI. Lucas Luhr and Marc Werner retired early following an accident and, after seven consecutive victories, for the first time this year did not score any points. Randy Pobst qualified his No. 1 K-PAX/3R Racing GT3 on the pole for Round Eight of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship on the Belle Isle street track in Detroit. Michael Galati qualified the No. 23 K-PAX/3R Racing Porsche in the eighth position after an early session spin moving up several positions as the session progressed.

“It’s my car chief Paul Delio’s birthday today and I think fate wasn’t to be denied,” Pobst said of his pole position.

At the eighth DTM round at Brands Hatch, Audi celebrated their fourth win of the 2008 season. In unstable weather conditions Timo Scheider defended an extremely narrow lead against Mercedes driver Paul di Resta on the British circuit. In front of 26,800 spectators (throughout the weekend) Timo Scheider thus extended his leadership of the standings to nine points. GT2 Podium: Johannes van Overbeek, Patrick Pilet, Jörg Bergmeister, Wolf Henzler, Jamie Melo, Mika Salo
The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR celebrated a clear double victory at the ninth round of the American Le Mans Series in Detroit. Notching up their fourth win of the season, Jörg Bergmeister and Wolf Henzler from Germany increased their lead in the GT2 class of the championship. With the sports prototypes, Timo Bernhard (Germany) and Romain Dumas (France) secured fourth with the Porsche RS Spyder and defended their points’ lead. Starting from the pole in GT2, Wolf Henzler and Joerg Bergmeister brought the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche in for their fourth GT2 win so far this season in today’s Detroit Sports Car Challenge. Teammates Johannes van Overbeek and Patrick Pilet fought back from a late-race spin and unplanned pit stop to finish second in GT2. This is the fifth double podium of the year for the Lizard squad. Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., topped Friday practice for Round Eight of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED GT Championship at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, in the series first return to the island since 2001. Team Remington Cadillac teammates Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Michael McCann, of Canton, Ohio, were second and third fastest, respectively. Qualifying turned out great for Timo Scheider as he carried his times over from practice. MArtin Tomczyk also had a good result and hope fully he will have some luck during the race. . Oliver Jarvis was the surprise in 6th, toping Mattias Ekstrom, Tom Kristensen! Qualifying break down after the jump. Timo leads the points by 4 over Jamie Green then Ekstrom is 2 back with 4 races (includes tomoarrow) left.

Timo Scheider back on top at Brands Hatch
For the fourth time this season and for the sixth time in his career, Timo Scheider (Audi) will be on pole position for a DTM race. In qualifying for the eighth season round of the DTM at Brands Hatch, the German secured himself the best possible grid position with the Audi A4 DTM with a lap time of 42.084 seconds. Lining up alongside Scheider will be local hero Paul di Resta (Mercedes-Benz), who qualified second. For the third time during this Brands Hatch weekend, Audi scored a fastest time: Mattias Ekström, who had topped the time sheets in the second test on Friday, was fastest in free practice, too. On his fastest lap (42.301 seconds), the Swede improved the fastest lap time from the day before by more than two tenths of a second.
