In front of a crowd of about 200,000 spectators the brace of 325 hp Sport-Coupés driven by Jimmy Johansson (S), Florian Gruber (D), Thomas Mutsch (D) and Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) and Carlos Sainz (E), Giniel de Villiers (RSA), Dieter Depping (D) and again Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) claimed first and second positions in the well-represented class for cars with two-litre turbo engines.

The new Scirocco GT24 continues to lead the class for cars with two-litre turbo engines and is eleventh overall in the field of 219 cars after three-quarters of the 24-hour race around the Nürburgring.

After 18 hours of hard fought racing in the well represented class, Jimmy Johansson (S), Florian Gruber (D), Thomas Mutsch (D) and Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) led the sister car of rally aces Carlos Sainz (E), Giniel de Villiers (RSA), Dieter Depping (D) and again Hans-Joachim Stuck (A), who were 17th overall. The third Scirocco driven by Dr Ulrich Hackenberg (D), Volkswagen Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand with responsibility for Development, and the journalists Bernd Ostmann (D) and Matthias Malmedie (D) and Nürburgring specialist Altfrid Heger occupied fifth position and 38th overall at this time.

A few minutes ago the #118 Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 was showing 10th overall. It’s now saying 12th.
The #117 is showing 17th overall and #116 is showing 24th overall.
In the SP3T class they are running 1st, 2nd and 5th. Running 3rd and 4th are a pair of Seat Leon Supercopa’s.
The #1 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is now back in the lead after some early problems. It shows what a strong will and staying to a game plan does during a 24hr!
We have tons of pics ready for editing and uploading. We need a bit of sleep first!
The #118 Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 sits in 13th overall!!
Dream start for the new Scirocco GT24: The race version of the Volkswagen Sport Coupé controlled proceedings in the class for cars with two-litre turbo engines (SP3T) during the first five hours of the 24-hour race around the Nürburgring.

The 325 hp Scirocco with the start number 118 and driven by Jimmy Johansson (S), Florian Gruber (D), Thomas Mutsch (D) and Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) led its class after 29 laps and held an incredible 18th place overall. Carlos Sainz (E), Giniel de Villiers (RSA), Dieter Depping (D) and again Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) in the sister car with the start number 117 was second in class and 20th overall at 8:00 p.m. The third Scirocco of Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand with responsibility for Development, the two journalists Bernd Ostmann and Matthias Malmedie and Nordschleif campaigner Altfrid Heger, who replaced François Verbist who was taken ill, was fourth in class and 27th overall.

The Scirocco with start number 117 of Carlos Sainz (E), Giniel de Villiers (RSA), Dieter Depping (D) and Hans-Joachim Stuck (A) set the fastest time of 9:26.549 minutes and claimed the 28th grid position overall in the field of 220 cars. Jimmy Johansson (S), Florian Gruber (D), Thomas Mutsch (D) and again Hans-Joachim Stuck (D) in the 325 hp Scirocco with the start number 118 recorded second place in the class and 30th overall. Dr Ulrich Hackenberg (D), Bernd Ostmann (D), Matthias Malmedie (D) and François Verbist (B) rounded off the Wolfsburg team’s impressive result with fourth position in class.
